Ottawa Senators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs // Feb 18

    Battle of Ontario

It is the annual Hockey Day in Canada and the battle of Ontario resumes as the Ottawa Senators (30-19-6) visit the Toronto Maple Leafs (26-19-11). Both teams are currently in the playoff mix as the Sens are 2nd in the Atlantic Division with the Leafs just three points behind.

    The Senate

The Sens—along with everyone else in the division—are closing in on the first-place Montreal Canadiens. The Sens are just four points out of first place and the team has been consistent when at home and on the road. The Sens are 14-10 on the road this season and are 5-4-1 in their last 10. The Sens are coming off a 3-0 victory in New Jersey on Thursday night and will be on the road for five out of their next six games.

The Sens are 2-1 against the Leafs this season and expect another tight game tonight. Both of their wins came after regulation. Statistically, the Sens are nothing to write home about. But again, they have been consistent and have quietly put together a nice season. They give up just as many goals against per game as they score (2.6), and their power play unit is sputtering along at 16.8 per cent (23rd in the league). However, they have the league’s 7th best penalty kill, which will come in handy against Toronto.

    The Blue and White

The Leafs—statistically—have some of the best units in the league. They are top-ten in goals for (6th), power play (2nd), and penalty kill (9th). But their inexperience has shown on the defensive side of the puck as they are 22nd in goals against this season and give up an average of 2.9 per game.

The Leafs are only 3-5-2 in their last 10 games but are still clinging to the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. But barely. The Islanders, Panthers and Sabres trail the Leafs by just a point and the Flyers are two points behind. At home this season the Leafs are 14-9-4.

    The Final Breakdown

The Leafs are starting to feel the pressure from their conference opponents, as every loss allows for teams below them in the standings to creep up on them, and they all have their sights set on that final wildcard spot. These two weekend games will be crucial for the Leafs. I see them winning both tonight and tomorrow night against the Hurricanes.

Toronto Maple Leafs ML (-130) 2u

Thanks BRMafia! I hope so too... sloppy first periods lately, but i expect them to get 3 goals this game. Whether that means a win or not, we'll see!

Man... come out flying after tying the game at 2. Get the lead in the third but couldn't hold the Sens off. Tough loss here.
