    AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2012 - Women's Singles Contest

    1. This is a bracket contest which starts at the First Round of the US OPEN . Entries need to be submitted no later than 11:00am Australian EST on MONDAY JANUARY 16TH.

    2. Each person is to PM ME their winners all the way through from the First Round until the Final before the first match commences. I'll post everyone's picks at some point in the day so all of us can follow along. I suggest using one of the free bracket sites to make your picks and then simply PM me the results of each round in the format I've supplied below. PLEASE USE THE FORMAT I PROVIDE - THIS MAKES IT MUCH EASIER ON ALL OF US. If you do not use the format I provide, I cannot guarantee your picks will be entered correctly and that will be your responsibility.

    3. SCORING WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:
First Round correct picks receive 1 point(s)
Second Round correct picks receive 2 point(s)
Third Round correct picks receive 3 point(s)
Fourth Round correct picks receive 5 point(s)
Quarterfinals correct picks receive 10 point(s)
Semifinals correct picks receive 20 point(s)
Finals correct picks receive 30 point(s)

    4. In the event of a tie when grading for contest purposes, the first tiebreak will go to the person who picked the highest number of number of dog winners correctly throughout the first round. The second tiebreak will go to the person who picked the number of Second Round winners correctly.

*** In the event of a retirement, if one set is complete then the advancing player will count as the winner.

The entry fee is 20 POINTS which MUST be paid before the commencement of the first match of Round 1 unless you have made special arrangements with me. If you're a Non Pro who begins to pay points yet stop at any point throughout the contest, your entry will be voided and all points paid forfeited.

The draw is now up and is available here if you're not using bracket software to make your picks.

    http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/.../ws/index.html

My suggestion to make it easier on you is to find a place online to enter your picks (I use the Tennis Channel contest) and then just use the format below to submit them.

Please use the format below - it gets really difficult trying to wade through picks when someone decides to just slap them all together. Again - if you do not use this format, I cannot guarantee your picks will be submitted correctly.

    TO SUBMIT YOUR PICKS:

This is a standard bracket contest. You take each first round winner and slot them through until the end. Just to make it clear: You're starting off by telling me what Round 2 would look like if you were going to be watching a round 2 match. So the first names you'll give me are the winners from the Wozniacki vs Rodionova match and the Barty vs Tatishvili match as the winners will be playing each other in Round 2. Then you go on to the next subgroup and carry those winners through.

Example entry (copy and paste this to PM to me)

You should break down like 10 time zones across the world
98 % here do not have any clue about Aussie Time Zones
11:00am Australian EST on MONDAY JANUARY 16TH. that too most people requires some calculating and a time zone website

I believe this is 7:00PM EST USA on Sunday Night

Shari all I do is teach you

I already put US Eastern Time in the main thread. And then I had people PM me asking why I'm favouring NY'ers.

So now I'm sticking with local time. There's a great website people can use to convert the time but I have a feeling most know when the first matches will start

Shari many people do not have backrounds outside of USA, time zones can get confusing

Its like me in NY today talking to a group of tourists from Australia and telling them what time their plane is taking off

I am telling them in local NY time and they think it could be Aussie time

Tennis bettors are an elite group... brightest and best. I think they can figure out what time the first matches start or at the very least use the converter I posted above. Or remember from the main contest thread. I can't be accused of discrimination any more. Hurts my heart.

What s all talk about 10 different time zones, favoring NYers, talking to tourist group from Australia, etc....????

    Local time is enough...
It is needed to be a little more inquisitive. At least an handicapper has to be inquisitive, I dont see any point of going into this competition, for those who are unable to convert these times into their locals

Or go to the Tennis Channel website (I put the link in the Men's thread) and they have bracket software. Enter their contest and then copy and paste your picks in a PM to me. Seriously it'll take you less than 20 minutes

Are you sure you are Canadian with all of this tennis love in you. I thought like all other Canadians, tennis courts are just mislabelled street hockey rinks?

    Yes to both.

    Ivanovic rooting Adam Scott.

Lucie Safarova broke up with Berdych.

Marino and Wozniak are the Canucks representing this year. Neither from Calgary but both still cute I think

Shari as far as the points transfers is it each round??

Do I divide full point total into equal rounds?

Are the transfers internal or external transfers and do I do it here or in the transfer forum?

    Thanks

Hey what do you guys think of using the Tennis Channel's scoring method instead of just a straight 10 throughout? I kind of like this because it gives people more credit for carrying players through. Will be a bit harder to score but doesn't matter if you guys like it. Either way I'm fine

First Round correct picks receive 1 point(s)
Second Round correct picks receive 2 point(s)
Third Round correct picks receive 3 point(s)
Fourth Round correct picks receive 5 point(s)
Quarterfinals correct picks receive 10 point(s)
Semifinals correct picks receive 20 point(s)
Finals correct picks receive 30 point(s)

Yeah I think this is a good way to go. If no one has any objections to it before the first match, I'll edit my first post to reflect the scoring change. I had considered it for the US Open but was really stuck for time so I was constantly under the pump to grade. Should be easier now that this one is in my time zone
