The Dodgers open a three-game series with the Padres in this N.L. West Division duel when Chad Billingsley opposes Matt Latos in a battle of right handers at Chavez Ravine Friday evening. Aside from the fact that Billingsley has cashed in 11 of his last 18 starts in this series and 10 of 14 career starts at home in July, this is a home/road dichotomy play-deluxe as Billingsley's home ERA (2.81) is more than 2.5 runs per game better than his road ERA (5.37) this season, while Latos' road ERA (5.09) is nearly 1.5 runs worse than his home ERA (3.61) this campaign. With that look for Latos to move to 0-4 in his career team starts in this park here tonight
In keeping with our game plan of acknowledging good pitchers and avoiding bad pitchers during their GOOD and BAD months of the season, below is the list of arms to watch throughout the month of June. Note that the W-L records are those of the team in which the listed pitcher started over the previous three seasons.
Thanks to my good friend Tom Freese, handicapper par excellence, I present a list of the BEST and WORST pitcher performance records during the month of June over the past three years. And oh yeah, hey peanut man, toss over a bag my way. Enjoy...
JUNE GOOD MONTH PITCHERS:
Brian Bannister 9-3 White Sox, Jeremy Bonderman 8-3 Detroit, Mark Buerhle 11-5 White Sox, Dan Haren 13-4 Arizona, Felix Hernandez 12-2 Seattle, John Lackey 11-4 Ahaheim, Cliff Lee 11-4 Cleveland, Rick Nolasco 7-3 Florida, Kevin Slowey 9-3 Minnesota, Justin Verlander 12-4 Detroit, Chien-Ming Wang 12-3 NY Yankees, Chris Young 8-2 San Diego.
JUNE BAD MONTH PITCHERS:
Daniel Cabrera 5-12 Baltimore, Shawn Hill 2-8 Washington, Tim Hudson 5-12 Atlanta, Brett Myers Philadelphia, Oliver Perez 4-12 NY Mets.
Lay the lead as we get out of the gate to open the second half .. Look to the Minny Twins -155 behind Liriano 5-7, 5.06 ERA as he has been a flat out rock after the 1st half of the season... The Twins pound Bruce Chen tonight, who has pitched well but just will run into a focused buzz saw @ Target Field...
How about these Twins at a 24-11 run going into the break and they are slowly getting healthy..
Looking at the Royals... They are struggling again.. 37-54 and a pitching staff that has an ERA @ 4.55.. OUCH.... 4th worst in the Bigs....
#'s are once again powerful .... Kc Royals @ 32-70 in their last 102 games vs. a left-handed starter.
Minny Twins are hammering losing clubs.... They are 14-2 in their last 16 vs. a team with a losing record ... They move to 15-2 after tonight..........
