NFL Player News - Week 4

CHI - RB Jeremy Langford dealing with ankle sprain Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford (ankle) left Week 3 with an injury initially feared to be an Achilles' tear, but team doctors have ruled it out after further examination. Instead, the team believes he only sprained his ankle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No word on whether or not this is the dreaded high-ankle sprain. The team will monitor him during the week, but fantasy owners need to have other options at the ready. Rookie Jordan Howard could take over as the lead back if Langford misses any time.

NYG - RB Rashad Jennings could be back Week 4

    Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (thumb), who missed Week 3 with a sprained thumb, could be ready to return against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants held Jennings out against Washington even though he felt he could have played. With Shane Vereen out for the season, the Giants could certainly benefit from Jennings being out there. Behind Jennings, guys like Bobby Rainey and rookie Paul Perkins will compete for snaps.

SD - TE Antonio Gates likely to miss Week 4

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (hamstring) 'wasn't close' to playing in Week 3 versus the Indianapolis Colts and is likely to miss Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints, according to Michael Gehlken of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Without Gates on the field, the team will turn to rookie Hunter Henry again. In Week 3 against the Colts, Henry hauled in five passes for 76 yards.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls out indefinitely

    Source: NFL.com - Nick Shook

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (leg) is expected to miss a few weeks with a hairline fracture in his fibula. Rawls missed the team's Week 3 victory over the San Francisco 49ers and could be out for a month, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No hurries, no worries for the Seahawks. They've got starter Christine Michael running well, and that's a trend that should continue. Behind Michael, rookie C.J. Prosise should be the primary backup.

PIT - Le'Veon Bell back in action

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell will return from his three-game suspension in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Steelers here. Getting Bell back will help a lethargic offense that failed to score a TD in Week 3 against the Eagles. Bell will lead the way on the ground, but he's also a fantastic receiver out of the backfield. It will be interesting to see the role of DeAngelo Williams now that Bell is back.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant has MRI

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) underwent an MRI on his knee Monday, Sept. 26, after initial X-rays revealed a sprained knee.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a situation that needs to be monitored by fantasy owners. Bryant's status going forward should be revealed when we know more about the extent of the knee sprain. As of late Monday night, the team had not released any information on the issue. Stay tuned.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins' status uncertain

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said he is not sure if WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will be able to play in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should just proceed as if Watkins is not going to play. We'll know more about his playing status later in the week.

KC - KC remaining cautious with RB Jamaal Charles

    Source: KCChiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) appears to have a decent chance to make his season debut in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Head coach Andy Reid admitted the team is being 'very cautious' in regards to Charles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With the way that Spencer Ware is running, the Chiefs have no need to rush Charles back into action. We could see him this week against the Steelers, but if Charles does play we'd expect him to be quite limited in his first week back.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson diagnosed with MCL sprain

    Source: ESPN.com - Sheil Kapadia

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson (knee, ankle) was diagnosed with a sprain to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee suffered during the team's Week 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Pete Carroll stated Wilson 'feel great' and is recovering well.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
If Wilson misses time, the Seahawks will turn to UDFA rookie Trevone Boykin. With a strong defense he could execute a limited gameplan and still give the Seahawks a chance to win on the road against the Jets next week. Seattle has a bye in Week 5, so they could shut down Wilson until after the bye.

MIA - RB Arian Foster doubtful for Week 4

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Miami Dolphins RB Arian Foster (groin) won't be rushed back, according to head coach Adam Gase, which casts him as doubtful for Week 4 Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins will continue to move forward with a RBBC featuring Jay Ajayi, Kenyan Drake, Isaiah Pead and Damien Williams. As you saw in Week 3, this situation is a bit of a mess for fantasy owners. Avoid if you can.

MIA - TE Jordan Cameron expected to be out for Week 4

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron (concussion) is expected to be out for Week 4 due to a concussion.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cameron will be in the concussion protocol, and his return date is yet to be determined. Without him, the Dolphins will use more of Dion Sims.

WAS - S DeAngelo Hall done for season

Source: ABC 7 Washington - Erin Hawksworth

Updating previous reports, Washington Redskins FS DeAngelo Hall (knee) had an MRI confirm a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and his season is over.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hall has played well early in the season as he transitioned to safety. Without him, Washington is going to be especially thin at the position. Will Blackmon should fill his role at free safety.

SD - Manti Te'o out for season

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, San Diego Chargers LB Manti Te'o (Achilles') had an MRI confirm a torn Achilles', and he'll miss the rest of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Te'o went down on a play without contact where he was roaming in coverage. In the final year of his rookie contract, Te'o is going to have to prove to teams in the spring that he can recover fully -- while the free agency process is underway.

CIN - WR Tyler Boyd sees drop in playing time

    Source: ESPN.com - Katherine Terrell
Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd was on the field for only 36 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 3 after playing 79 percent of the snaps in Week 2.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bengals couldn't challenge the Broncos through the air, and they struggled to move the ball with the passing game in Week 3. Against the Dolphins "defense" on Thursday night, Boyd -- and the entire Bengals offense -- should have more success.

NYJ - RB C.J. Spiller works out for New York

Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Free-agent RB C.J. Spiller (Saints) worked out for the New York Jets Monday, Sept. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No signing is imminent as the Jets are likely just updating their emergency list.

CAR - WR Kelvin Benjamin to be more involved?

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin could be more involved going forward after not catching a pass in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. He was only targeted once. 'We've got to find a way to get him the ball more. That starts with me,' offensive coordinator Mike Shula said. 'But we've got to make sure we're doing it in a way that we're not just trying to force him the ball.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Benjamin is the best WR on the team, and he's been a favorite target of Cam Newton. The Vikings have a tough defense, but it was unusual to see him blanked on Sunday. Expect that to change going forward, and Benjamin should perform like a high-end WR2 in most matchups.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker has full practice

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) was a full participant in practice Monday, Sept. 26. Parker's status is an estimate as the Dolphins did not conduct a practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker is an important piece of the Dolphins passing attack. He's worth considering as a flex play against the Bengals in Week 4.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry misses practice

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry (shoulder) did not practice Monday, Sept. 26. Landry's status is an estimate as the Dolphins did not conduct a practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see Landry at practice as they prepare to take on the Bengals Thursday night.

OAK - RB Marcel Reece let go

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Oakland Raiders FB Marcel Reece was released Monday, Sept. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reece is coming off his three-game suspension to start the year, and the team decides to go in a different direction. He's a talented fullback, so perhaps Reece will be able to find a new home in the near future.

DEN - TE Virgil Green day-to-day

Source: The Denver Post - Cameron Wolfe

Denver Broncos TE Virgil Green (calf) is considered day-to-day with a calf injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Coach Kubiak suggested Green was better than day-to-day, but that's his designation for right now. With a revitalized Broncos passing attack, Green could see even more targets (when healthy) in the team's TE-friendly system.

NYJ - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins claimed by Jets

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Buccaneers) was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets Monday, Sept. 27, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seferian-Jenkins was released by the Bucs last week after getting a DUI charge against him. He's a talented player but work ethic problems and off-field issues have plagued his pro career. If motivated, Seferian-Jenkins has the natural ability to be a solid starter. We'll see if the Jets can get anything out of him. Re-draft owners can find talent elsewhere though while we wait to see what Seferian-Jenkins does with his new team.

NYG - RB Shane Vereen could return late in season

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafalo

Updating a previous report, New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is expected to take two months to recover from triceps surgery, according to sources. He could be placed on the Reserve/Injured list and then come off later.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ah yes, the new IR rules in the NFL. Vereen looked good with a larger role in Week 3 while Rashad Jennings was out. Without Vereen, Jennings should be the lead back. Bobby Rainey and rookie Paul Perkins will compete for playing time as well.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert nearing return

    Source: Bengals.com

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) is close to returning, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. Eifert has missed the first three weeks of the season following ankle surgery in the offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantastic news for the Bengals and QB Andy Dalton here. The offense lacks weapons in the passing game outside of superstar WR A.J. Green. Getting Eifert back will greatly improve what they can do through the air -- especially in the red zone. In his first week back, we would consider Eifert a high-end TE2 at least.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd in concussion protocol

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (head) was cleared on the sideline to reenter the game in Week 3 Buffalo Bills, but he experienced a headache on Monday, Sept. 26, and entered the league's concussion protocol.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This situation needs to be monitored. Floyd doesn't have a history of concussions, but the team is obviously being cautious with him now after experiencing a headache on Monday. We should know more about his availability later in the week.

SF - QB Colin Kaepernick could start soon

    Source: 49ers.com

San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (shoulder) may reclaim his starting job once he's back to full health, according to head coach Chip Kelly.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This should come as no surprise. Blaine Gabbert has struggled as the team's starter, and (on paper at least) Kaepernick seems like a good fit for the Kelly system. We could see a change at QB for the 49ers in the near future.

CLE - QB Cody Kessler to start again

Source: The Cleveland Plain Dealer - Mary Kay Cabot

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler will start in Week 4 against the Washington Redskins, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kessler was okay in his pro debut, and he's the best of what they have available. In Week 3, Kessler was number one in the NFL with only 3.3 percent of his passes being off target (overthrown or underthrown). Now, he did have a low air-yards-per-attempt average (6.82 yards) but Kessler has always been known as an accurate QB on short-to-intermediate routes.

GB - TE Jared Cook's injury not season-ending

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (ankle) was spotted on crutches and in a boot after being carted to the locker room during a Week 3 win over the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the veteran TE here. The Packers will still determine whether Cook will be sidelined for multiple weeks or whether he'll be able to return after the team's bye in Week 4.

PHI - RB Ryan Mathews will join rotation upon return

Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (ankle) will remain the starter, but head coach Doug Pederson said the team will continue to rotate backs even when Mathews is healthy.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Eagles should continue to use Darren Sproles as a receiving weapon, even if/when Mathews is at full strength. If Mathews misses time with this ankle injury (that he's been playing with), then perhaps Kenjon Barner or Wendell Smallwood would be asked to do more like they did in Week 3.

    Wednesday Update

HOU - DE J.J. Watt to go on IR

    Source: ESPN.com - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous post, Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) will be placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Sept. 28. There was no word on whether the IR will be season-ending, although Watt could miss the rest of the year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tough break for Watt and the Texans here.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins will work out foot

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafalo

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will gauge his pain tolerance later in the week to see if he is able to play in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to find other options -- even if Watkins is going to play. He's clearly been bothered by this foot when on the field, and we want to see him look like his old self before trusting him.

PIT - Eli Rogers in a walking boot

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Eli Rogers (toe) was spotted wearing a walking boot on his left foot Tuesday, Sept. 27. Rogers injured himself roughly midway through the team's Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Looks like Rogers is going to miss some time. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is calling him 'very questionable' for Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert expected to sit out Week 4

    Source: ESPN - Bob Holtzman

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) has yet to make it through a full practice or participate in 11-on-11 drills, making it unlikely he will be ready to play in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, Sept. 29, according to ESPN's Bob Holtzman. A team source told Holtman a Week 5 return versus the Dallas Cowboys 'is possible'.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eifert is getting close, but he may not see the field just yet. When he gets back on the field, we'll consider him a TE2 with upside as the team eases him back into action.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant awaiting MRI

Source: NFL Network - Mike Garafalo

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) has yet to have the MRI on his knee, but the team is anticipating he'll play in Week 4, according to owner Jerry Jones.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch this situation closely because if Bryant missed time it would have a negative impact on the Cowboys entire offense. Make sure that Bryant is able to practice Friday - IF we hear that the results from his MRI were negative. If Bryant doesn't play, then the team would turn to more of WR Cole Beasley and TE Jason Witten.

NYG - RB Shane Vereen goes to IR

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson
New York Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Tuesday, Sept. 27.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

His season may not be over, but fantasy owners can drop Vereen as he'll be out at least two months.

NE - New England optimistic about QB situation

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

New England Patriots QBs Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) and Jacoby Brissett (thumb) have reportedly made enough progress in their recoveries from their respective injuries that the team is hopeful both will be available in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's shaping up to look like Garoppolo will start the final game before Tom Brady is allowed to return from his suspension. Make sure to check back on his progress in practice on Friday.

NYG - RB Paul Perkins ready for bigger role

Source: New York Post - Paul Schwartz

New York Giants RB Paul Perkins is among the candidates who will be asked to fill the void left behind by the absence of Shane Vereen (triceps) after the team's leading rusher suffered a triceps injury in Week 3 that is expected to sideline him at least two months. Head coach Ben McAdoo stated a committee will replace Vereen and that Perkins is 'ready to step up'.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bobby Rainey should get first crack at the Shane Vereen role in the Giants backfield behind starter Rashad Jennings. However, Perkins is a player who cannot be forgotten about. At UCLA, Perkins drew a lot of comparisons to Jamaal Charles (Chiefs) because of his speed and ability to break off field-flipping plays. Watch to see if Perkins can do more with his opportunity now that Vereen is hurt.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan says thumb is fine

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (thumb) said his injured left thumb is fine, and he put a glove on the hand in Week 3 to ensure his grip on the ball.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan was able to play through this injury on Monday night against the Saints. Watch the injury report on Friday just to make sure that Ryan has participated in practice. He may be limited when practice opens up this week on Wednesday.

DET - RB Dwayne Washington emerging into timeshare

    Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein

Detroit Lions RB Dwayne Washington has emerged into a timeshare with RB Theo Riddick, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington is the larger back, and he could get a larger workload when the team needs to run between the tackles. Riddick is a great receiver, but he struggles when asked to run inside. Perhaps Washington could do enough to consider him a deep flex for fantasy owners.

CHI - John Fox believes in RB Jordan Howard

Source: Chicago Sun-Times - Patrick Finley

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard might be in line to shoulder the load with RB Jeremy Langford (ankle) sidelined, and head coach John Fox said it would not be impossible. 'I think there's guys in the league that do,' Fox said. 'Remember, Jordan is a rookie that we've seen for three real NFL football games. So we'll kind of evaluate as we move forward.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It must be difficult for Fox to admit that. He's known as a coach who doesn't really trust rookies. He's forced to trust Howard with Jeremy Langford down for a few weeks. Howard is a powerful runner who can wear down a defense as the game goes on. Consider him a low-end RB2 while Langford is out.

CHI - Chicago signing RB Joique Bell

Source: NFL Network - Rand Getlin

Free-agent RB Joique Bell (Lions) is signing an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Bears Tuesday, Sept. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Jeremy Langford (ankle) down, the Bears had to add another body at the RB position. We should see rookie Jordan Howard as the team's lead back, but Bell gives them veteran depth. In fact, Kadeem Carey (hamstring) is also banged up so we could see Bell as the primary backup to Howard this week.

ATL - WR Mohamed Sanu expected to play Week 4

    Source: ESPN.com

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu (shoulder) is likely to play in Week 4 versus the Carolina Panthers after a shoulder injury kept him out of the second half in the team's Week 3 win over the New Orleans Saints.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Watch Sanu's progress during the week of practice. The team has a short week coming off their road victory over the Saints on Monday night. They face the Panthers at home in Week 4.

SF - QB Blaine Gabbert remains the starter

Source: Sporting News - Alex Marvez

San Francisco 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert will remain the starting quarterback, in part, because he's better in practice than QB Colin Kaepernick.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

For now. Gabbert is better in practice, but he may not be better in games. There are other QBs in NFL history that struggled in practice (Chad Pennington, Tim Tebow) but found ways to make plays in games. Kaepernick could be fantasy relevant as (on paper) he looks like a good fit for the Chip Kelly system. A running QB like Kaepernick could easily be a starter for fantasy owners -- especially as we work through the bye-week gauntlet. Stay tuned.

GB - TE Jared Cook has high ankle sprain

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Green Bay Packers TE Jared Cook (ankle) has a high ankle sprain that could cost him some time.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The dreaded high-ankle sprain could bother Cook for a large amount of time. With Cook banged up, the Packers should turn to Richard Rodgers. That doesn't mean Rodgers is fantasy relevant as he's more of a desperation TE2 for fantasy owners as it currently stands.

SEA - RB C.J. Prosise to return in Week 4

Source: The Tacoma News Tribune - Gregg Bell

Seattle Seahawks RB C.J. Prosise (wrist) will return to action in Week 4 against the New York Jets, head coach Pete Carroll said Monday, Sept. 26. He has missed the past two games due to a cracked bone in his hand.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Prosise (a converted WR) is a good receiving option and change-of-pace back behind starter Christine Michael. His fantasy value is low unless something happens to Michael.

    Thursday Update

DAL - WR Dez Bryant has hairline fracture Source: San Jose Mercury News - Cam Inman

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) has a hairline fracture in his knee, but head coach Jason Garrett hopes Bryant will be able to play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to find another option if possible just in case Bryant can't play. Bryant is considered day-to-day at this point. If he's out against the 49ers, then the team would turn to WR Cole Beasley and TE Jason Witten to do the heavy lifting in the passing game. WR Terrance Williams would also be likely to be more involved without Bryant.

MIA - WR Jarvis Landry's status in question

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation and find different options just in case. The Dolphins play Thursday night, so we'll know soon enough about Landry's playing status.

CHI - QB Jay Cutler not guaranteed starting job

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is not guaranteed to be the starter whenever he's medically cleared to return, according to head coach John Fox. Cutler apparently pushed to start in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys but was not cleared.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Fox/Cutler relationship has been an interesting one to watch. Last year, Cutler seemed to win his coach over as Fox didn't seem too excited to have Cutler on the team when he took over. Now, Cutler may have fallen out of favor. It really depends on how Brian Hoyer continues to play in Cutler's absence. Either way, we think the Bears (and Fox) look to find a new QB this offseason.

ATL - Atlanta RBs snap distribution

    Source: ESPN.com - Vaughn McClure

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman was on the field for 38 of the team's 64 offensive snaps in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints. RB Tevin Coleman logged 27 snaps.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The snaps are going to continue getting split almost down the middle for these two. Coleman got into the end zone three times against a weak Saints defense on Monday night. Perhaps next time out it will be Freeman as the most fantasy relevant back of the two. It's a split fantasy owners will have to navigate carefully with both backs cutting into the others value. They're both low-end RB2 with upside, but the potential for a RB1 week is always there for one of them.

ARI - RB David Johnson is an every-down back

    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson played 79 of a possible 82 snaps against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3. RBs Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington logged just three and one, respectively.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Any concern about Johnson splitting time in the backfield has been squashed this year. David Johnson is a star player, and he's the centerpiece of the Cardinals offense. While they are struggling in the passing game at times, Johnson is solid on the ground. He's also one of the best receivers out of the backfield in the league. There is no doubt that Johnson is a set-it-and-forget-it starter each week for fantasy owners.

NO - WR Willie Snead limited Wednesday

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Snead missed the Monday night game against the Falcons in Week 3, but he may be back this week. The Saints travel to face the Chargers on Sunday.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker listed as questionable

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins WR DeVante Parker (hamstring) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, but is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Parker is worth flex consideration as the Dolphins travel to play the Bengals on Thursday night.

MIA - TE Jordan Cameron ruled out

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins TE Jordan Cameron (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, and has been ruled out for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Without Cameron against the Bengals, the team will turn to Dion Sims.

MIA - RB Arian Foster will not play

    Source: MiamiDolphins.com

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Without Foster, the team will continue to feature a three- and four-headed backfield. Jay Ajayi, Kenyan Drake, Isaiah Pead and even Damien Williams could see playing time with Foster down.

CIN - TE Tyler Eifert doubtful for Week 4

    Source: Bengals.com

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 26, and is listed as doubtful for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's getting close, but you'll have to wait another week. The Bengals have a short week as they play against the Dolphins on Thursday night.

TEN - WR Tajae Sharpe limited at practice

    Source: TitansOnline.com

Tennessee Titans WR Tajae Sharpe (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sharpe has plenty of talent, but he's been hyped up quite a bit in fantasy circles with little payoff. He had seven catches in Week 1, but Sharpe has only had 7 catches combined over the last two weeks. We hold onto him, but don't trust him as anything more than a mid-range WR4 or 'what the heck' flex in Week 4.

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's some waiver wire help (Jack Doyle, etc) to help you if you're a Walker owner. Check back Friday as we'll know more about his availability then.

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton does not practice

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Check back on Friday to see what Hilton's status is like. We've got him as a WR1 with the upside to be a top-5 fantasy play in Week 4 against the Jaguars.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski limited in practice

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There were no setbacks for Gronkowski after playing in Week 3 against the Texans. He should be good to go -- and a TE1 for fantasy players -- in Week 4 against the Bills.

NE - QB Jacoby Brissett limited in practice

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett (thumb) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brissett may have been limited, but he might be closer to playing than Jimmy Garoppolo.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan takes part in practice

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (thumb) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The thumb injury is not a big deal, and the Falcons need Ryan in a big way in Week 4. They get a huge test on the road against the Carolina Panthers this week. Ryan is a low-end QB1 in this matchup.

ATL - WR Julio Jones listed as limited

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (calf) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones just didn't look right against the Saints on Monday night. This week, consider Jones more of a low-end WR1 until we see him look like his old self. He'll be facing an inexperienced secondary against the Panthers on Sunday.

NE - QB Jimmy Garoppolo limited at practice

    Source: ESPNBoston.com - Mike Reiss

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports indicate that Garoppolo has limited motion in his shoulder and he's still bothered by the pain. Other reports are that he seemed to be throwing ok. If Garoppolo were to be unable to go, rookie Jacoby Brissett would get his second consecutive start for the Patriots.

JAX - No practice for TE Julius Thomas

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas should be fine -- even though he's banged up....AGAIN. Consider him a low-end TE1 this week against the Colts.

NYJ - WR Eric Decker likely to undergo MRI exam

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (shoulder) aggravated his shoulder injury during the Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Sept. 25, and he will likely undergo an MRI exam, according to head coach Todd Bowels.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Decker missed practice on Wednesday, so make sure to check back on Friday if you plan on (or want to) starting him.

SF - WR Torrey Smith should be fine

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith (ankle) suffered an apparent ankle injury during the team's Week 3 game, but head coach Chip Kelly said Smith will be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith will be fine, but fantasy owners aren't going to trust Smith in the lineup. He's a WR4 at best this week against the Cowboys.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart out of practice

Source: The Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is out of practice Wednesday, Sept. 28.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cameron Artis-Payne should start for the Panthers again this week. The rookie is worth considering as a RB3/flex play in Week 4 against the Falcons.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota good against AFC South

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota has 866 passing yards, five touchdowns, 141 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in his last three games against AFC South teams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

On the road against a Watt-less Texans defense, we can still only recommend Mariota as a QB2 in Week 4.

KC - CB Marcus Peters off to historic start

    Source: ESPN.com - Scott T. Miller

Kansas City Chiefs CB Marcus Peters had two interceptions in Week 3 against the New York Jets. That gives Peters a dozen in 19 career regular season games, which is five more than anyone else in NFL history since the merger.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peters has the ability to be the best CB in the game -- and he's not too far off that mark. We will continue to watch his career with great interest.

    Friday Update

DAL - WR Dez Bryant expected to miss Week 4 Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) is not expected to play in the team's Week 4 game because of the hairline fracture in his knee, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This won't kill the offense as we expect a lot of running anyway against the Niners. Cole Beasley gets a bump though, and should be a borderline WR2/WR3.

CLE - WR Josh Gordon entering rehab

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon announced Thursday, Sept. 29, that he is stepping away from pursuing his return to football in order to enter a rehabilitation facility.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon was set to be back next week for the Browns, and now he may not play football anytime soon. We think the Browns and this regime will eventually move on from the talented but oft-troubled WR. Where he ends up is anybody's guess. We just hope he gets his life back on track.

CAR - RB Jonathan Stewart to miss Week 4

Source: Charlotte Observer - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) will not be able to play in Week 4, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera indicated he is not sure about a possible timetable for Stewart.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

As expected, the hamstring continues to be tricky. Cameron Artis-Payne will likely lead in carries, though he's no better than an RB3. Fozzy Whittaker has a shot to reach RB4 numbers but Mike Tolbert is too risky for more than RB6 production.

SD - TE Antonio Gates not on the field

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (hamstring) is not participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It does seem like the end of an era now, as Gates' body seems to finally be breaking down. We'd recommend Hunter Henry as an alternative in a great matchup with the Saints and who should be a solid TE1 this week.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins may sit again Friday

    Source: WKBW.com - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said there is a strong possibility that WR Sammy Watkins (foot) will not be able to practice Friday, Sept. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't see him going at all this weekend, and would avoid the passing offense here in any event. Tyrod Taylor can add some rushing yards, but really there is almost no reason to own anyone here as new OC Anthony Lynn made it clear last week that they are going to run a lot.

ATL - WR Mohamed Sanu back at practice

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu (shoulder) returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanu should be back in the lineup but is no better than a WR 5 or so. If you're looking for bye week help, there are better options.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan fully practices

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (thumb) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's not a great matchup, so Ryan looks a lot shakier than he did last week. Start him as a QB2 and hang on through what could be a roller coaster.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman under the weather

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman (illness) missed practice Thursday, Sept. 29, because of an illness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watch this space for news on whether is a go on Friday, because if he isn't, you might bump Tevin Coleman up to full RB2 status. As it is, Freeman may get more carries but Coleman gets goal line work, so they are both RB2/RB3 options at best.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall practices in full

    Source: Seahawks.com

New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall (foot, knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall may play but he may be hindered by his issues. He's a borderline WR2/WR3 this week, especially since we don't exactly trust Ryan Fitzpatrick to avoid passing the ball to the wrong team.

NYJ - RB Matt Forte back up to speed

    Source: Seahawks.com

New York Jets RB Matt Forte (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forte is in a tough spot as he faces a good Seattle run defense. On top of that the offense could be without Eric Decker and/or Brandon Marshall, which means stacked boxes for Forte. A smart Jets team would go and use both Forte and Bilal Powell at the same time, one in the backfield and one out wide, but there is no guarantee that will happen. We see Forte with RB3 production, but upside if the Jets can crack the code on this defense.

SEA - QB Russell Wilson a full participant

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson (knee, ankle) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sad Jets fan is sad, since he was hoping to not see Wilson at all, much less fully ready to go. Of course, Wilson might not be and a hampered Wilson is a good thing for the Jets front line. We're avoiding this, as a solid and aggressive front seven and a somewhat less mobile Russell Wilson behind a bad offensive line is a recipe for disaster. He's a QB2/QB3 this week.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett limited in practice

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lockett isn't a sure thing to do much even against a shaky secondary such as the Jets feature. If you must, expect WR6 production, but try to find a better alternative.

SEA - Setback for TE Jimmy Graham

    Source: Seahawks.com

Seattle Seahawks TE Jimmy Graham (back, knee) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham was looking like a potential TE2 against a Jets defense which still has no idea how to stop a tight end from doing whatever he wants. Keep an eye on this Friday to see if it snowballs.

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (hamstring) returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday, Sept. 29.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't see him playing this week and would avoid him if he did until we see how he looks. Jace Amaro, his replacement, isn't worth a start either.

TEN - WR Tajae Sharpe still limited

Tennessee Titans WR Tajae Sharpe (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even without JJ Watt, we expect Houston's defense to clamp down on Tennessee making Sharpe a long shot as more than a WR5, and a weak one at that.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery limited in practice again

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (knee) was limited in practice again Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery may be limited on Thursday, but he should play on Sunday against the Lions. Consider him a WR2 with upside in Week 4.

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't know what is going to happen with the Patriots starting QB spot just yet. It could be Garoppolo, but it could be Jacoby Brissett....and neither one should be considered more than a QB2.

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We think he'll look better this week, even behind a shaky offensive line with a tough front seven across from him. The Giants can be run on, and we see RB2 production from McKinnon this week.

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell (knee) participated fully in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even though Washington's defense allowed 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns to the Giants last week, Crowell still looks like no more than an RB3. We don't expect Cleveland to keep up with Washington the way New York did, limiting Crowell's production.

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton should be back to form now as he comes off a monster 8-174-1 game against San Diego. While we don't expect those numbers again, he should be good for WR1 production against Jacksonville in London.

That's not great news but we're not tossing dirt on his grave quite yet. We still see him as a game time decision who, if he plays, he could be borderline TE1/TE2 option this week. At least it's a very early game (9:30 am EST) so you can make the decision before most other tight ends play.

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 29. Cutler was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 28, but head coach John Fox said Cutler did not suffer any setbacks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Looks like it's Hoyer-Time again but Brian Hoyer is behind a bad offensive line with an inconsistent Kevin White and a banged up Alshon Jeffery. He does have a solid tight end in Kellen Davis, but we would avoid Hoyer as anything but a QB3.

NYJ - TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins's status uncertain

Source: The Associated Press - Dennis Waszak Jr.

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he is not sure if TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins will be active for the team's Week 4 game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Add to that we aren't sure if he'll be effective when he is. Seferian-Jenkins has talent but is a huge head case at this point so we have our doubts.

NYJ - No MRI for WR Eric Decker yet

Source: NJ Advance Media - Connor Hughes

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said WR Eric Decker (shoulder) has not had an MRI done on his injured shoulder but may undergo an MRI at some point. Bowles said he hopes the injury will not last more than a week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sure if this means he's out this week, maybe out this week or playing this week, but hurt. Having missed practice twice, we lean towards the first option, but even if he plays we don't like him playing hurt. Avoid him this week unless he's practicing tomorrow, which we doubt.

KC - RB Charcandrick West sitting out

    Source: Chiefs.com - B.J. Kissel

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (ankle) will not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Spencer Ware is the man here, and a borderline RB1 even against Pittsburgh. He did well against a New York Jets run defense which is no pushover, and should be successful here as well.

    36. WAS - Coach worried about WR Josh Doctson
    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim
Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said he is concerned that WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') is still bothered by his Achilles' tendon injury. Gruden indicated that Doctson could be shut down for a few weeks.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's the smart, long game plan. Doctson could be a useful player down the road but you don't mess with an Achilles. You and the Washington offense have other options remaining there. We think DeSean Jackson will be a solid WR2, with Jamison Crowder a decent WR3 while Pierre Garcon is stuck as a possession receiver and a WR5 in fantasy.

    Saturday Update

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins placed on IR

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Sept. 30. He will meet with specialist but is not scheduled to undergo surgery at this point.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It didn't take long for that other shoe to drop. Watkins is out for at least eight weeks, which means it's difficult to justify holding him. There's no surgery scheduled, but he is still meeting with Dr. Robert Anderson. It's not certain that we'll see him again this year. Robert Woods will be the #1 receiver in a low wattage pass offense. LeSean McCoy and Tyrod Taylor have lower weekly and season-long floors with this news.

KC - RB Jamaal Charles to make '16 debut Sunday

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (knee) will make his season debut in the team's Week 4 contest Sunday, Oct. 2, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Charles will likely still take a back seat to Spencer Ware in his first game back. It's possible that Charcandrick West's injury forced the Chiefs hand here, but it's still a good sign that the team did not take advantage of next week's bye to get Charles another week of rest before returning. We all saw with Rob Gronkowski that a player returning from injury doesn't necessarily mean they return with a smash. On the other hand, Charles is an explosive player who only needs a few chances to make an impact. For this one, we're taking a wait and see approach.

NYJ - WR Eric Decker has partially torn rotator cuff

Source: New York Daily News - Daniel Popper

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a partially torn rotator cuff and is out for Week 4 versus the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Todd Bowles called Decker 'week-to-week' and it is unknown at this time whether or not he will require surgery.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Decker is out this week and Quincy Enunwa's value just took a big leap as the #2 in a pass happy offense. The red zone offense will become less effective but it might free up more opportunity for Matt Forte or Brandon Marshall when they get there. Decker's rest of season value still hangs in the balance and he's probably not an essential hold in short bench leagues.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant comes down to pain threshold

Source: The Dallas Morning News - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) is iffy for Week 4, but owner Jerry Jones said it would come down to Bryant's pain threshold.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This tells us that even if Bryant is active, don't expect any fireworks. Bryant should be on your bench and if he's ruled out, Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley become flex considerations.

NO - WR Willie Snead questionable

    Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead (toe) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 30, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Snead has been getting in limited practices all week, which means he is likely to play against the Chargers. The matchup is improved with Brandon Flowers out and Snead has a high ceiling as part of the Saints prolific pass offense, but he also carries risk of having limited effectiveness or a flare-up in game. Consider him a boom/bust WR3/Flex.

TB - RB Doug Martin ruled out Sunday vs. Denver

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin (hamstring) has been ruled out for the team's Week 4 game Sunday, Oct. 2, versus the Denver Broncos.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Charles Sims will get another start. He has a high PPR floor with his involvement in the passing game, but scoring chances might be minimal against the tough Broncos defense.

TEN - WR Kendall Wright should play in Week 4

    Source: TitansOnline.com

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 30, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Wright is coming back just as the Titans pass offense is stuck in the doldrums with rookie Tajae Sharpe drawing criticism instead of the praise he was getting for the entire offseason and preseason.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker listed as questionable

    Source: TitansOnline.com

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 30, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker thinks he has a good shot to play against the Texans, but that we'll know more tomorrow. He's a boom/bust TE1 play if active, but Walker is at risk of a hamstring flare-up in game so his floor is very low.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery limited in practice Friday

    Source: CSNChicago.com - John Mullin

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring, knee) has been limited over the first two days of practice this week by a knee injury. On Friday, Sept. 30, he was limited by a hamstring injury and is expected to be listed as questionable leading into the team's Week 4 game versus the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jeffery has always been able to produce while playing through nagging injuries, and he was a solid start last week despite clearly not being 100%. He's a decent WR2 play against the Lions defense that allowed four scores in a half to Aaron Rodgers last week.

PIT - WR Markus Wheaton working through pain

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton (shoulder) is still dealing with discomfort from the AC joint injury that cost him the first two weeks of the season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wheaton dropped a touchdown last week and was a non-factor. With Eli Rogers out because of turf toe, Wheaton should get more playing time this week, but he's still not clearly worth a roster spot in typical leagues.

JAX - TE Julius Thomas questionable

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (elbow) is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is a game-time decision. Even though the matchup is good, he is coming in off of a dud against Baltimore and Thomas is probably not a safe or high floor play this week, although he could have a higher ceiling than safer options at tight end.

    Sunday Update

DAL - WR Dez Bryant flies with team Source: NFL.com - Ian Rapoport

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) flew with the team to San Francisco on Saturday, Oct. 1, keeping open the possibility he will try to play in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We still don't think Bryant plays against the 49ers. That means Cole Beasley could perform like a low-end WR2 or flex play for fantasy owners in Week 4.

TEN - TE Delanie Walker confident about Week 4

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker (hamstring) is questionable for Week 4 against the Houston Texans, but he practiced on Friday, Sept. 30, and is optimistic about his chances of playing after missing sitting out against the Oakland Raiders last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Walker plays against the Texans, fantasy owners should look at him as a low-end TE1. In the event that Walker misses another game, Jace Amaro would fill in as the team's pass-catching TE.

BUF - Two Bills receivers may have bigger role

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak
Buffalo Bills WRs Marquise Goodwin and Walter Powell are expected to receive bigger roles in the passing game with WR Sammy Watkins (foot) out for at least eight weeks.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Robert Woods is the most likely to get increased production with Watkins out. Goodwin has deep speed, but he may only get a few targets per game. Outside of RB LeSean McCoy, we're not too excited about any other offensive player for the Bills.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs expected to play

    Source: Vikings.com
Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (groin) fully participated in practice Saturday, Oct. 1, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Vikings win with defense, but we think Diggs will do enough on Monday night against the Giants to warrant consideration as a WR2 or flex play in Week 4.

MIN - RB Jerick McKinnon on track to play

    Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon (toe) fully participated in practice Saturday, Oct. 1, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McKinnon should play a large role in the Vikings rushing attack in Week 4 against the Giants. Yes, he'll split touches with Matt Asiata but we think McKinnon could be a high-end RB3 for fantasy owners.

NYG - RB Rashad Jennings questionable

New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (thumb) was limited during practice Saturday, Oct. 1, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jennings is going to be a game-time decision, and we don't think he plays against a tough Vikings defense on Monday night. Even if he does play, the matchup is tough and fantasy owners have much better options.

NYJ - Robby Anderson the new No. 3 WR for NYJ

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Kieran Darcy

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson is expected to serve as the third receiver behind Brandon Marshall and Quincy Enunwa while Eric Decker is sidelined with partially torn rotator cuff.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like Marshall as a low-end WR1 and Enunwa as a mid-level WR3 for fantasy owners in Week 4. The Jets are at home against a tough Seattle defense, so don't expect them to be overly successful filling the air with footballs.

MIA - Miami wants to 'narrow down' RBBC

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miami Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi had 46 total yards on eight touches in a Week 4 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, and the backfield appears to be one area head coach Adam Gase plans to reassess.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Dolphins are not built to run the ball. Fantasy owners can find better value elsewhere, but we'll be monitoring this situation to see if someone breaks out...or at least becomes a flex-worthy player.

BUF - More opportunity ahead for TE Charles Clay?

    Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay expect to be more involved four versus the New England Patriots, according to offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Clay is a talented move TE, and he's one of the most versatile players at the position. If healthy, he could easily be a reliable target for Tyrod Taylor. That doesn't mean he'd have great fantasy value, and there are other options out there for fantasy owners.

BAL - RB Terrance West could take over starting job for Week 4

    Source: ESPN.com

Baltimore Ravens RB Terrance West may get the nod to start over Justin Forsett in Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Even if he's the starter, West is only a RB4 for fantasy owners. We're all waiting to see Kenneth Dixon back in action in the near future. The rookie may be able to play for the Ravens next week.

NYJ - WR Eric Decker not a lock to return in 2016

Source: New York Post - Zach Braziller

New York Jets WR Eric Decker (shoulder) will attempt to rest and rehab his partially torn rotator cuff, but head coach Todd Bowles would not discount the possibility of it becoming a season-ending injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Decker may be able to play with this injury, but he might not be as effective. It's worth picking up Quincy Enunwa if he's out there on the waiver wire. The team should turn to Enunwa with Decker on the shelf.

BAL - RB Kenneth Dixon likely to be eased in

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (knee) is targeting a Week 5 return, but the rookie will likely be eased back into the mix given head coach John Harbaugh's history of not giving rookie running backs heavy workloads, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Everyone should have Dixon as a 'lottery ticket' back on their bench. He'll be eased in, but Dixon has the natural talent to be an effective starter for the Ravens. If he's the main man, Dixon could have RB2 value for fantasy owners.

PHI - RB Wendell Smallwood to see plenty of work

    Source: ESPN.com - Tim McManus

Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood should get 'plenty of opportunities over the course of the season', according to ESPN's Tim McManus.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smallwood will get the opportunity because Ryan Mathews is either banged up or needs his touches monitored. We could see Kenjon Barner mixed in as well, so there's not a ton of fantasy value in this current situation.

CHI - RB Jordan Howard may not start for long

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard will likely go back to being more of 'a committee guy' once Jeremy Langford returns from his ankle injury, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Howard could be the lead back for the Bears for a few weeks while Langford recovers. The rookie from Indiana has a powerful style and is instinctive with the ball in his hands. We see him as a RB2 or flex play due to his talent and size of his workload.

DET - WR Golden Tate still Detroit's No. 1 WR?

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate is still the top option in the passing game, according to offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, and Cooter said Tate's slow start is a product of the offense's emphasis of spreading the ball around.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tate can't be the top option with the way that Marvin Jones has been playing. Fantasy owners may have already moved on, and it's not a bad move unless/until we see Tate look like his old self.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd struggling with consistency

Source: The Arizona Republic - Kent Somers

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd continues to struggle with consistency in practice and games, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'He shines and then all of a sudden he'll drop an easy one,' Arians said. 'You just can't do that.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals passing attack is kind of 'meh' right now. Floyd is more of a WR4/flex option against the Rams in Week 4.

TEN - Tennessee to lean on WR Kendall Wright?

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans WR Kendall Wright is expected to provide a boost to the offense because of his quickness, according to offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll believe it when we see it. Fantasy owners can keep him on the wavier wire for the time being. If you're in a super deep league, then keep Wright on your speed dial just in case.

BUF - RB Reggie Bush to play receiver?

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills RB Reggie Bush has plays designed for him to play slot receiver, according to head coach Rex Ryan, and Ryan said Bush's role in the offense will change on a weekly basis.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills offense isn't the most creative in the NFL. Bush may be used as a receiver, but we can't recommend him as a fantasy option.

    Monday Update

SF - NaVorro Bowman carted off Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers LB NaVorro Bowman (foot) was carted off to the locker room in the second half of the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams due to an apparent foot or lower leg injury. The medical staff removed his left shoe on the sidelines to evaluate an injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bowman is far and away the best player on the 49ers defense, which often has to get back on the field with short rests due to Chip Kelly's tempo and Blaine Gabbert's low quality of play. Arizona's matchup next Thursday should be easier with Bowman highly unlikely to play on short rest.

ATL - WR Julio Jones finishes with 300 yards

    Source: NFL.com

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones caught 12 passes for 300 yards and one touchdown against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is obviously over his leg injuries. He destroyed the standard set by AJ Green earlier in the week and has had his top three pick value restored heading into the season's toughest matchup at Denver.

NE - TE Rob Gronkowski quiet in Week 4

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski caught one pass for 11 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronkowski wasn't as involved as usual and didn't quite look like himself. Martellus Bennett is playing well, but Tom Brady is coming back so Gronk's value should bounce back. Hopefully Gronkowski's involvement increases, but it's fair to wonder how much his hamstring is still affecting him and how long it will take before he is 100%.

CHI - RB Jordan Howard shines in win

    Source: The Associated Press

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard rushed for 111 yards on 23 carries Sunday, Oct. 2, in a 17-14 win over the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Howard ran tough, breaking tackles and getting north-south efficiently. The Bears gave him a great game script with a good defensive performance against the one-dimensional Lions offense. Next week against the Colts should be a favorable matchup for Howard, so he's a strong flex and a viable RB2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones was getting big holes behind a makeshift Washington line, which reflects on the Browns run defense, too. He'll have a tougher matchup against the Ravens next week, but Jones has established himself as a clear lead back and good play when Washington can play from ahead.

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin caught three passes for 39 yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Benjamin resumed his rookie year fantasy plan, getting a garbage time touchdown after struggling with the offense for most of the game. He's still a strong WR1 play against the woeful Bucs secondary next Monday night.

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen caught six passes for 76 yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4.

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed caught nine passes for 73 yards and scored twice in a 31-20 win over the Cleveland Browns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed got his scores in the first half and seemed to return to the prominent red zone role he rode to an elite TE1 finish last year. Next week against Baltimore should be another good one for Reed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowell is averaging over six yards per carry four games into the season on an 0-4 team. That is incredible and makes you wonder what he can do if the team gets Josh McCown back and can play more competitively. Next week he'll be a flex play in a low ceiling matchup against the Patriots.

Cousins was efficient and safe with the ball, which meant not a great day for DeSean Jackson. He was focused on Jordan Reed in the short and intermediate zones, which hurt Jamison Crowder. Next week, Cousins looks like a good streaming play against the Ravens defense that Derek Carr threw four scores against today.

CAR - QB Cam Newton has concussion

    Source: NFL.com

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (head) went 14-for-25 for 165 yards and one touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4, before he left the game with an injury. He also rushed for 30 yards on five carries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton has a concussion, but he also has one extra day to recover as the 1-3 Panthers play the Bucs on Monday night football. He was a major disappointment against the Falcons today, but if he is going on Monday night, you have to play him against the Bucs' mistake-prone secondary.

ATL - RB Devonta Freeman finds end zone

    Source: NFL.com

Atlanta Falcons RB Devonta Freeman rushed for 57 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. He also caught two passes for seven yards during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Freeman is clearly the superior runner and the better fantasy value in the Falcons backfield. The potent offense takes a trip to Denver next week, so Freeman might be on the outside looking in when it comes time to set our lineups. The Falcons seem intent on keeping him in a timeshare.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan throws for 503 yards

    Source: NFL.com

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan went 28-for-37 for 503 yards, four touchdowns and one interception against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan crushed what looked like a tough matchup coming into this game. Julio Jones went off for 300 and Ryan also found Austin Hooper and Aldrick Robinson for long easy scores. He has a trip to Denver next week, but it will still be hard to bench the red hot Ryan leading the first place Falcons.

CHI - WR Eddie Royal has 100-yard game

    Source: The Associated Press

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal caught seven passes for 111 yards on Sunday, Oct. 2, in a 17-14 win over the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Royal is healthy and riffing with Brian Hoyer. He had a 64-yard gain when Hoyer found him free in the Lions secondary after having a lot of time to throw, and a score when Hoyer left the pocket and let Royal climb the ladder for a throw on the run.

NE - TE Martellus Bennett surpasses 100-yard mark

    Source: NFL.com

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett caught five passes for 109 yards against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bennett was the only thing about the Patriots passing game that worked today. He has had two big games out of four with the Patriots playing backup quarterbacks. He should be rostered in all leagues heading into a matchup against Cleveland, a team that just gave up two scores to Jordan Reed.

CHI - QB Brian Hoyer impressive in Week 4

    Source: The Associated Press

Chicago Bears QB Brian Hoyer threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns in a 17-14 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Oct. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hoyer hooked up with Eddie Royal and Kevin White (who left the game with an ankle injury) more than Alshon Jeffery. The Lions defense continues to be an easy matchup with Ezekial Ansah and DeAndre Levy out. If he gets a chance to start next week for Jay Cutler while his thumb heals, then Hoyer will get an easy matchup against the Colts.

DET - WR Marvin Jones Jr. leads receivers

    Source: The Associated Press

Detroit Lions WR Marvin Jones Jr. led his team's receivers with 74 yards on five catches in a 17-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The #1 fantasy receiver heading into Week 4 had a down week for him, but a solid week for a wide receiver playing in an offense having a very bad day on the road. The Eagles matchup next week has been stifling for opponents, but Jones should find his way into lineups as a WR3 or flex.

DET - RB Theo Riddick leads weak RB attack

    Source: The Associated Press

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick led all team rushers, but he had just 31 yards on 11 carries in a 17-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 2.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Riddick is remaining in PPR flex consideration because of his involvement in the passing game, but no matter how many running backs go down to give Riddick extra carries, he's not going to be an effective runner. He has a tough matchup against Philadelphia next week.

BUF - WR Robert Woods finishes with 89 yards

    Source: NFL.com

Buffalo Bills WR Robert Woods caught seven passes for 89 yards against the New England Patriots in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tyrod Taylor was efficient and effective, and Woods was getting open often against a secondary that sported a banged up Malcolm Butler. He's worth an add in deeper leagues, but his weekly ceiling will be low.

DET - QB Matthew Stafford struggles in Week 4

    Source: The Associated Press

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw for 213 yards and was intercepted twice Sunday, Oct. 2, in a 17-14 loss to the Chicago Bears.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford had one pick on a miscommunication with Golden Tate, who was benched in the second half. After looking like a must-start QB1 entering Week 4, Stafford is probably better off on the bench heading into a matchup with the fierce Eagles defense next week.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy plays well in Week 4

    Source: NFL.com

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy rushed for 70 yards on 19 carries against the New England Patriots in Week 4. He also caught six passes for 38 yards and one touchdown during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy never really got free as a runner, but he was used heavily in the short passing game and made a twisting catch with nifty footwork to score and make an RB1 day in PPR leagues. He gets a tough matchup at the Rams next week, but McCoy will be hard to bench.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor has decent outing

    Source: NFL.com

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor went 27-for-39 for 246 yards and one touchdown against the New England Patriots in Week 4. He also rushed for 28 yards on five carries during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Taylor was much more consistent and accurate as a passer and the Bills were able to move the ball enough against a tough Patriots defense. He's still got a lower ceiling without Sammy Watkins, but Taylor remains a streaming option in good matchups. Next week at Los Angeles probably isn't one.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson plays well in Week 4

    Source: NFL.com

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson caught five passes for 55 yards and one touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Robinson is looking like a receiver with the potential to do more but his quarterback is taking a step back. His floor is still high with his heavy red zone usage, but his ceiling won't get back to 2015 levels unless Bortles gets better.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon rushes for 71 yards

    Source: NFL.com

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon rushed for 71 yards on 14 carries against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. He also caught four passes for 46 yards during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yeldon looked as good as he has in his young career to date. He was hitting the hole with good burst and displaying elusiveness, including as a receiver out of the backfield. The Jaguars running success was probably due more to the matchup with the Colts, but Yeldon gave us enough to hold him through his bye.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles scores three TDs

    Source: NFL.com

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles went 19-for-33 for 207 yards and two touchdowns against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4. He also rushed for 36 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bortles didn't play as well as his stats suggest he did. He was still uneven and inaccurate, and the long touchdown of the day came on a good Allen Hurns run after catch effort with poor tackling and angles. Bortles is still only a matchup play heading into his bye.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton catches seven passes

    Source: NFL.com

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton caught seven passes for 42 yards and one touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton didn't look as fast or sudden as usual and Andrew Luck didn't have much time to throw. His short score saved his fantasy day. Things should get better with home cooking against the Bears next week.

IND - QB Andrew Luck has solid outing

    Source: NFL.com

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck went 27-for-42 for 234 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Luck was ineffective and under pressure for most of the game. He is missing Donte Moncrief and probably is not a no brainer start from here on out. Next week brings the Bears to Indianapolis, where Luck has been good this year, so he should remain in your lineup despite the disappointing game today.

SEA - RB Thomas Rawls to miss several weeks

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls (leg) is expected to be sidelined for about a month because of his fractured fibula, according to general manager John Schneider.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This was the expectation based on the news that Rawls had a problem with his fibula. Christine Michael will have a chance to assert himself as the starter while Rawls is out, and he'll have at worst RB2 value in a situation that has usually yielded big fantasy value.
