NFL Player News - Week 7

    Courtesy of Footballguys.com

GB - Green Bay likely will use RB committee

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers RBs Eddie Lacy and James Starks likely will continue to see playing time moving forward, because head coach Mike McCarthy said he does not like having one running back run 25 times a game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCarthy said he could stick with one running back if they are playing well during a game. The dreaded "hot hand" approach is bad for fantasy owners. The Packers have a bye in Week 7, then they travel to play the Broncos in Week 8. They'll need to be at their best to move the ball against that ferocious Broncos defense.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs may remain starter

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs was one of the starting wide receivers in the team's Week 6 game, but head coach Mike Zimmer said he is not sure if Diggs will keep the starting job.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie has looked good in limited action so far this year. He hauled in seven catches for 129 yards against the Chiefs on Sunday. Diggs seems to have a good connection with QB Teddy Bridgewater, and that connection could keep him in the lineup.

PIT - QB Michael Vick has hamstring tear

Source: NFL Network - Aditi Kinkhabwala

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (hamstring) has a small tear in his hamstring and could be at least a week away from returning.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It looks like Landry Jones will be the guy moving forward...at least until Ben Roethlisberger comes back from his knee injury.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins has sprained ankle

    Source: NFL.com - Conor Orr

Updating a previous report, Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (ankle) is dealing with a sprained left ankle and not a break. However, he was wearing a walking boot and using crutches when arriving in London for the Week 7 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Showing up on crutches is not a good sign for his availability. We'll know more as the week of practice goes on.

GB - RB Eddie Lacy banged up

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Michael Cohen

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) had just four carries in the Week 6 game while RB James Starks had 10 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown. 'We're a one-two punch team,' coach Mike McCarthy said. 'It's really no different than the way we operate. We went with James first just because he's been playing extremely well, and Eddie has been a little banged up.' Though McCarthy did not expand on what exactly is bothering Lacy, it's possible the right ankle is more problematic than the team has let on. the ankle appeared to be progressing well as recently as this week, when Lacy practiced with a normal tape job for the first time. Gone was the bulky, over-the-shoe taping known as 'spatting,' which he wore the last three games and provides extra support for the ankle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners across the land were burned by Lacy on Sunday. Until we get more clarity about his situation, fantasy owners must proceed with caution when considering Lacy for the lineup. In the meantime, James Starks clearly is an attractive option.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota injury update

    Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

Updating a previous report, Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (knee) has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The sprain is not as serious as originally feared. Mariota's status for the Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons is uncertain.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders expected to be fine

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (shoulder) said his shoulder is sore but should be ready to play in the Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sanders had a minor shoulder injury late in the game against the Browns. The team needs him near full strength as they take on the Packers in Week 8.

DEN - Denvers WRs still an elite duo

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Denver Broncos WRs Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are the only receiving duo in the NFL in the top 10 in catches, targets and receiving yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos offense is not clicking, but these two remain solid fantasy starters. After six weeks, Thomas has scored the 11th-most fantasy points for WRs in PPR leagues. Sanders has scored the 7th-most fantasy points for WRs in PPR leagues.

NYJ - WR Eric Decker finding end zone

    Source: ESPN

New York Jets WR Eric Decker has scored a touchdown in each of the four games he's played this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Decker is getting the touchdowns, but fantasy owners want a few more receptions. He's scored the 34th-most amount of points for wide receivers in PPR leagues.

SF - San Francisco works out RB Pierre Thomas

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent RB Pierre Thomas (Saints) worked out for the San Francisco 49ers Monday, Oct. 19, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is a good veteran all-purpose back. The 49ers are dealing with a banged up Carlos Hyde (foot) and Reggie Bush (calf). They could just be updating their emergency list.

NYJ - RB Stevan Ridley could play

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) will put on pads this week and might be able to play against the New England Patriots, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley in a revenge game against his former team would be something to watch. However, Chris Ivory is the lead back and he's been incredibly productive for the Jets this year. When Ridley is ready, he'll get on the field as a backup.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon may not start

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon did not return after fumbling a second time in Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Mike McCoy declined to say if Gordon Will start in Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should have put Gordon on "probation" already this year. He's failed to impress so far this season even though the Chargers are doing everything they can to get him involved. Keep Gordon on your bench until he proves that he can produce at the NFL level. In shallow leagues, you may be forced to dump the rookie.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed improving

    Source: NFL.com

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (concussion) has shown improvement and his status for the Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be updated later in the week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed has a ton of talent, but he's constantly banged up. We'll see if he can get cleared, back in practice and back on the field for Washington.

MIN - WR Charles Johnson unsure of status

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings WR Charles Johnson (rib) said he was close to playing in the team's Week 6 game but was declared inactive for the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Vikings may have found something in rookie Stefon Diggs. His emergence means Johnson could return as a backup. Johnson said he is not sure if he will be able to play in the Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde injury update

    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (foot) is dealing with more of a bruised foot and does not have plantar fasciitis, according to head coach Jim Tomsula.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's a good thing, but Hyde's production has been down after a huge game in Week 1 against the Vikings. He's failed to go over 100 yards rushing since that game, and Hyde could only muster 55 yards on the ground against the Ravens in Week 6.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson day-to-day

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) is considered day-to-day because of the back injury he suffered in Week 6.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thompson can provide the team with a spark as a change-of-pace back when healthy. Fantasy owners in shallow leagues may have to move on from the speedy back.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson's status uncertain

    Source: NFL.com
Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson's (hamstring) status for the Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is uncertain at this point.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson should be back on the field in the near future. Head coach Jay Gruden said the team will have to see what Jackson will be able to do during practice this week.

GB - WR Ty Montgomery has ankle sprain

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Green Bay Packers WR Ty Montgomery (ankle) suffered a low ankle sprain during the team's Week 6 game. The Packers have a bye in Week 7, and he has not been ruled out for the Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Montgomery gets some time to heal before that big contest coming up in the Mile High City. The rookie from Stanford has an incredible skill set where he can gash defenses after the catch. This ankle injury could slow him down.

JAX - TE Julius Thomas dealing with injury

    Source: NFL.com

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (rib) suffered a rib contusion during the team's Week 6 game and his status for the Week 7 game against the Buffalo Bills will be updated later in the week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just when Thomas was getting back in action due to a hand injury...now this. A rib injury requires a lot of pain tolerance to come back from. We'll know if he can play against the Bills later in the week. Watch for Thomas to be limited in practice, and hope for a full participation in practice on Friday.

ATL - WR Julio Jones comes out fine

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (hamstring) didn't have any setbacks in the Week 6 game and looks healthy moving forward, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Falcons here. Jones had a decent day in Week 6 with a six-catch, 93-yard performance against the Saints on Thursday night.

BUF - WR Percy Harvin out for Week 7

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills WR Percy Harvin (hip) will not play in Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills played without Harvin in Week 6 against the Bengals. Without him in the lineup, we should see more targets for Robert Woods.

NE - WR Julian Edelman not same after injury

    Source: The Associated Press

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (finger) injured the pinkie finger on his right hand in the first half of the Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts. He finished with six receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That finger injury was gnarly (medical term), and it certainly seemed to impact the way that Edelman was catching (or bobbling) the ball. We'll see if this injury can quickly be fixed so Edelman starts looking like his normal self.

    Wednesday Update

SEA - RB Fred Jackson wrecks car - no evidence of drag racing as reported by TMZ

    Source: Seattle Times Staff

Running Back Fred Jackson wrecked his car Tuesday when he was driving too fast near the team facility. TMZ had reported that Marshawn Lynch and Jackson had been drag racing but the Seattle Times reports there was no evidence of drag racing. “There is no evidence he (Jackson) was drag racing anyone,” Renton police spokesman David Liebman said. “He was leaving the facility, and he was clearly driving to0 fast when he hit a street sign.”

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

According the Seattle Times and the Renton police, seems like no drag racing drama to see.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota probably out

    Source: BleacherReport.com - Jason Cole

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (knee) is expected to miss Week 7 as he recovers from a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation for official confirmation. QB Zach Mettenberger would start if Mariota is ruled out.

PIT - QB Landry Jones expected to start

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones is being prepared as the starter in advance of Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs because 'he's the one that's healthy,' according to head coach Mike Tomlin. QBs Ben Roethlisberger (knee) and Michael Vick (hamstring) will have their progress monitored to determine their availability in practice or games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the only move for the team if Vick isn't ready. Jones is a decent pocket passer and has great weapons to throw to in Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant and LeVeon Bell. Jones threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns in relief of an injured Vick in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs receives praise

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Matt Vensel

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs received praise from teammate WR Mike Wallace, and Wallace sees similarities in Diggs' skill set to Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown. 'You can tell from Day One who can play football or not,' Wallace said. 'They have some exceptions where guys get better drastically over time. But for the most part, you can tell from Day One, can he play or can he not play? And I always felt like he could from Day One. … Just the skill set, the way he runs his routes, the energy that he has. It reminds me of him.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Diggs is a player that fantasy owners need to add on waivers (if he's out there) this week. We see a fine connection and trust between the rookie receiver and QB Teddy Bridgewater. Diggs is at least a decent flex play each week, but he's got upside if the Vikings need to go through the air more than normal to stay in a game.

PHI - QB Sam Bradford to remain the QB

    Source: NFL.com

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford remains the team's starting quarterback, and head coach Chip Kelly has full confidence in him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradford is going to be the starter until Kelly has no other choice but to pull him. That could be a couple of weeks after everyone else under the sun realizes that Bradford should get pulled. In deep leagues/2QB/QB flex leagues, make sure to add Mark Sanchez in a preemptive pickup.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant unlikely to return this weekend

    Source: NFL.com - Gilberto Manzano

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) isn't being ruled out for Week 7 against the New York Giants, but he's highly unlikely to suit up this weekend.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He could be back soon, but perhaps not just yet. Bryant has not been able to cut on his routes and has yet to practice.

PIT - Wednesday telling for Roethlisberger

    Source: 93.7 The Fan

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) said how he feels Wednesday, Oct. 21, in practice will give him an idea of his availability for Week 7. QB Landry Jones is expected to see a lot of first-team repetitions. 'A lot of it determines too how I feel early in practice,' Roethlisberger said. 'I would assume that Landry and I will kind of split the first reps with the first period and if it feels good in the first period, we'll probably continue that way. If for some reason it doesn't feel quite right or if I don't feel 100% about it, then I don't want to just be out there taking reps away from Landry just because. He's going to need to get all the reps he can. It's going to have to be a feel thing, a comfort level. Can I make moves in the pocket? Does it hurt when I drop back from under center? Does it hurt when I roll out to the left, to the right? Sliding up in the pocket after a deep-set off a play-action fake. Just things like that because obviously I threw last week and it felt good throwing, so that part we can check that box off and we'll just continue, when I go out there kind of as practice progresses, see what I can and can't do.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yep. We'll all be monitoring the practice reports on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. If Roethlisberger can't play, then the team will turn to Landry Jones to start at quarterback since Michael Vick is banged up. The Steelers travel to Arrowhead to take on the Chiefs in Week 7.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz pain-free

Source: The Bergen Record - Art Stapleton

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is without pain in his calf, according a source. He'll have an MRI Wednesday, Oct. 21, and could return to practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It sounds like Cruz is getting close to a return. In deeper leagues go ahead and stash Cruz if you can. In shallow leagues, you're going to have to wait and see him in action on the practice field before you make him a preemptive pickup.

NE - WR Brandon LaFell likely to practice

Source: Boston Herald - Karen Guregian

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (foot) will likely begin practicing this week, but that decision isn't final.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners should be picking up LaFell this week if he's available and you've got the roster space. You want a piece of this Patriots passing game, and we saw last year how LaFell was able to connect with QB Tom Brady.

NYG - Odell Beckham comes out fine

Source: The Star-Ledger - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) came out of the Week 6 game Monday, Oct. 19, without re-injuring his hamstring after playing in 66 of the 68 offensive plays.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beckham had seven catches for 61 yards and a touchdown in the first half and had one target in the second half. Beckham admitted he wasn't 100%.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray appears healthy

Source: CBS Sacramento - Abraham Gutierrez

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (shoulder) appears healthy and ready to play in Week 7 after the bye. Murray had 28 touches for a combined 88 yards the last two games after a career-high 139 yards in Week 3. 'It's timing,' said head coach Jack Del Rio. 'You're working on double teams and being able to come off and just some of the little nuances that make the running game go where you do it a little bit better and it turns into an eight-yard gain instead of a three or four-yard gain. It's what you're after - creating the space and the opportunity for our backs. We've had some examples when we've done it pretty well and we haven't been quite as good as we looked to be. The encouraging thing is we've converted enough on third down to have enough opportunities. If you're getting 25, 26 runs in a game you're getting a decent amount of opportunities to run it, so, that's a positive.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for Murray and his fantasy owners here. The Raiders travel down the coast to play the Chargers in Week 7. They'll need Murray to work as a battering ram in order to soften up the Chargers defense.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor optimistic for Week 7

Source: The Buffalo News - Vic Carucci

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) is optimistic he'll start Sunday, Oct. 25, against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's optimistic, but know that this injury could take a few weeks to heal from. E.J. Manuel played well for the Bills last week as their starter, so there may not be a huge rush to put Taylor back in the lineup. The Bills should be able to produce on offense against the Jaguars.

SD - QB Philip Rivers on record pace

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers is on pace to set single-season NFL records in yards, attempts and completions. He has completed 177 of 253 passes for 2,116 yards in 2015.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A 500-yard game (like he had against the Packers on Sunday) will help that pace. Rivers is on fire, and the rushing attack does not look like it will get on track anytime soon. That means more of Rivers and the passing game. That's music to the ears of fantasy owners with Rivers on the roster.

OAK - QB Derek Carr not being pressured much

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is the 30th-least pressured quarterback in the league right now at 25.9% of his dropbacks. His 93.9 passer rating through five games is up from his 76.6 rating in his rookie year in 2014.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Raiders have done a good job of protecting Carr, and he's doing a good job of keeping pressure away himself. Carr is also getting the ball out at 2.33 seconds after the snap, which is seventh-fastest in the NFL.

NYJ - Work out Isaiah Pead

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

Free-agent RB Isaiah Pead (Rams) worked out for the New York Jets Tuesday, Oct. 20. Free-agent CB Jeremy Harris (Jaguars) was added to the practice squad.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's amazing that Pead would get workouts considering the little he showed during his time with the Rams. The Jets are likely just updating their emergency list here.

NYG - Meeting with DE Jason Pierre-Paul

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul (finger, hand) is meeting with the Giants Wednesday, Oct. 21, according to a source. Pierre-Paul's last meeting with the Giants was six weeks ago, and team officials are skeptical that he's made the necessary improvements to take the field again. However, if New York is encouraged by their examination of Pierre-Paul, they could attempt to work out a financial deal that would enable him to rehabilitate in team facilities.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pierre-Paul has yet to sign the franchise tender he was offered as he fears the Giants would place him on the Non-Football Injury list if he were to do so.

TB - QB Jameis Winston, WR Mike Evans not connecting

    Source: ESPN.com

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston is 13-for-33 with no touchdowns and three interceptions when targeting WR Mike Evans this year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We have faith that things will eventually come around for this duo--it has to as both are incredibly talented. However, it may not be on point until late in the year or next season. Fantasy owners need to consider Evans more of a low-end WR2 each week. He's one of the most physically talented WRs in the league, but things aren't connecting just yet for these two.

CAR - QB Cam Newton likes closing out games

    Source: ESPN.com

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton has a 94.1 QBR in the fourth quarter this year, which is second-best in the league, but has a 37.1 QBR in the first three quarters.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton is getting it done for his fantasy owners this year despite not having star receiver Kelvin Benjamin. His late-game heroics are helping his fantasy stock, and he's a QB1 every week no matter the matchup.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton breaking out

    Source: ESPN.com

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton has 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions so far in 2015 after throwing six touchdowns and three interceptions at this point last year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Those who drafted Dalton did so as a backup--and they were able to nab him late. He's paid off in a big way as Dalton has become a set-it-and-forget-it starter for fantasy owners.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers slowing down

    Source: NFL.com - Elliot Harrison

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers had a 73.6 completion percentage, a 10:0 touchdown-to-interception ratio and a 135.4 passer rating through the first three games of the season. He has a 62.6 completion percentage, a 5:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio and a 96.4 passer rating in the last three games.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Packers offense sure does miss Jordy Nelson. Rodgers and company have a bye in Week 7, then they travel to take on the ferocious Broncos defense in Week 8. That will be a huge test for both teams.

CIN - Opponents trying to stop WR A.J. Green

Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Jim Owczarski

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green was targeted seven times in Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills, which was second on the team to WR Marvin Jones' 14 targets and nine catches. The Bills put different cornerbacks on Green throughout the game and rolled safeties in his direction in order to shut him down.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson noticed that opposing defenses are trying to prevent Green from getting the ball after he went off for 10 catches, 227 yards and two touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens. The Bengals are fine because they have so many amazing targets outside of Green. Fantasy owners should realize there will be ups and downs with Green...just like with most top-flight WR1s.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota thinks he can play

    Source: TitansOnline.com - Jim Wyatt

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (knee) believes his chances of playing this weekend are pretty good despite suffering a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain last week. Mariota did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We appreciate the rookie's mindset here, but this injury could keep him out a few weeks. The team will wisely be cautious with their franchise quarterback going forward.

BAL - RB Justin Forsett sits Wednesday

    Source: WNST.net - Luke Jones

Baltimore Ravens RB Justin Forsett (ankle) is out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Forsett didn't look that effected by this ankle injury last week against the 49ers. He played a season-high 62 snaps, and Forsett finished with over 100 all-purpose yards. This week, the Ravens travel to play the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night.

DAL - Dallas not rushing WR Dez Bryant back

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) remains day-to-day, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team doesn't need to rush him back. Garrett said the Cowboys will not rush Bryant back in the midst of a three-game losing streak, and he'll need to practice in order to return to game action. Bryant is sitting out Wednesday, Oct. 21.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson just has a bruise

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Robinson (leg) is OK after what is being diagnosed as a bruised leg.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Jaguars here. They play in London against the Bills in Week 7, and Robinson will have a tough matchup against CB Stephon Gilmore. This drops him to more of a high-end WR3/flex play rather than his normal WR2 with WR1 upside spot.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray has full practice

    Source: Raiders.com

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray (shoulder) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the young back here. We like Murray as a low-end RB1 this week against the Chargers.

DEN - RB Ronnie Hillman the lead man

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman will continue to see more carries than RB C.J. Anderson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos are going to use a "hot hand" approach. This means that Hillman has the most value, but fantasy owners should consider him a boom-or-bust RB2/flex each week. Anderson is not worth rostering in most formats. In deeper leagues, he's only a "what the heck" flex at best.

SF - TE Vernon Davis expected to play

    Source: NFL

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21, and is listed as probable for the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's all fine and dandy, but Davis is not a fantasy factor. Some think he could get dealt before the trade deadline, but we have a hard time imagining a team would give up much of anything to add a disappointing player like Davis.

SEA - WR Tyler Lockett listed as probable

    Source: NFL

Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett (hip) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21, and is listed as probable for the Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like Lockett as a "what the heck" flex in leagues that reward return TDs.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger limited

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Oct. 21.

We're likely to see Landry Jones as the starter this week against the Chiefs.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch ready to play

    Source: NFL

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch (hamstring) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21, and is listed as probable for the Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He's a RB1 for fantasy owners. Get your lineup set early as the Seahawks take on the 49ers on Thursday night.

JAX - WR Allen Robinson, WR Allen Hurns limited

    Source: NFL.com

Jacksonville Jaguars WRs Allen Robinson (leg) and Allen Hurns (ankle, thigh) were both limited participants in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Both are WR2s this week against Buffalo. Robinson is going to draw tough coverage from Stephon Gilmore, and Hurns could end up producing more fantasy points in Week 7.

HOU - WR Cecil Shorts ruled out

    Source: NFL.com

Houston Texans WR Cecil Shorts (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shorts came back and played last week against the Jaguars. Now, he's out of action in Week 7 against the Dolphins.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson limited by finger

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (finger) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21. Peterson left RB Matt Asiata to the running back duties for the final few plays in Week 6 after hurting his finger.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peterson should still be able to go against the Lions this week. He's at his usual high-end RB1 status.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon, TE Antonio Gates out

    Source: NFL.com

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (ankle) and TE Antonio Gates (knee) both sat out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gates is just getting some veteran rest (most likely), while fantasy owners need to put Gordon on probation. He's fallen out of favor due to ineffectiveness, and we're not recommending the rookie from Wisconsin as a starter until he shows that he can produce at a high level in the pros.

NYG - Odell Beckham misses practice

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Beckham is just getting some rest. Monitor his practice status on Friday, and get ready to start him in Week 7 against the Cowboys.

WAS - RB Matt Jones back on the field

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (toe) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a great matchup this week against the Bucs. Jones and Alfred Morris could lead the way for Washington, and both are high-end RB3s in Week 7.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed limited

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (concussion) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's Wednesday, so it makes sense that Reed would be limited. He says he's 100 percent healthy, and Reed should play this week. We like him as a TE2 against the Bucs in Week 7.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson does not practice

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (back) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Check back later in the week to see if Thompson is back at practice. Alfred Morris and Matt Jones could see a bulk of the work against the Bucs in Week 7.

HOU - Limited practice for RB Arian Foster

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Foster should be good to go for Sunday. We like him as a top-5 fantasy RB this week against the Dolphins.

ATL - WR Roddy White takes part in some drills

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (foot) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans aren't great on defense, but White is no longer the player he used to be. He's only a WR5 "what the heck" flex play in Week 7.

ATL - WR Leonard Hankerson limited

    Source: AtlantaFalcons.com

Atlanta Falcons WR Leonard Hankerson (hamstring, ribs) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hankerson should be able to practice fully by Friday. We like Hankerson as a WR3 this week against the Titans.

DET - RB Joique Bell practices in full

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions are incredibly loyal to Bell. They could force the ball to him as a rusher this week against the Vikings. That being said, Bell is only a RB4 or "what the heck" flex in Week 7.

DET - RB Theo Riddick listed as limited

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick (groin) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We should see Riddick practice fully by Friday. He's scored the 15-most amount of points for a running back in PPR leagues. Most of you out there can start Riddick as a flex play.

NYJ - RB Stevan Ridley has full practice

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Stevan Ridley (knee) had a full practice Wednesday, Oct. 21. There's a chance he could play in Week 7, according to head coach Todd Bowles.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners need to pick up Ridley as a preemptive pickup. Chris Ivory is a great starter and a RB1 for fantasy owners. However, he's been banged up quite a bit as a pro and Ridley could shine with a starting role if Ivory goes down. Add him now.

SEA - RB Fred Jackson will play Thursday

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Seattle Seahawks RB Fred Jackson is fine and will play in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers Thursday, Oct. 22, according to head coach Pete Carroll. Jackson was uninjured after crashing his car Tuesday, Oct. 20.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson will play--but only barely as the team's third back behind Lynch and Thomas Rawls.

SD - WR Keenan Allen doesn't practice

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hip) did not practice Wednesday, Oct. 21. Allen did not return after leaving the Chargers' Week 6 game versus the Green Bay Packers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The injury is reportedly minor, but we want to see Allen fully practice on Friday before trusting him in the lineup this week against the Raiders.

    SD - Stevie Johnson practices

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) is practicing Wednesday, Oct. 21, for the first time since exiting San Diego's Week 4 contest.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a good sign for Johnson's availability this week against the Raiders. If he plays, we like him as a "what the heck" flex with upside in Week 7.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin in concussion protocol

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (concussion) must pass the league's concussion protocol this week in order to play in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Maclin has been QB Alex Smith's favorite target, compiling 39 catches (eighth-most in the league) on 56 targets for 531 yards and a touchdown.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

More bad news for the Chiefs offense here. Maclin's playing status for Week 7 is up in the air right now. WRs Albert Wilson and Chris Conley would likely be the top receivers if Maclin isn't cleared in time.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon idle Wednesday

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (groin) is out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation as the week of practice goes on. If Yeldon doesn't play against the Bills in London, we're not rushing out to get either Toby Gerhart or Denard Robinson.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz unlikely to play

    Source: NFL.com

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to play in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, and he's undergoing another MRI exam Wednesday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cruz is not back yet. He's been feeling better but will likely miss another game.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins not ruled out

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (ankle) has not been ruled out yet for Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins entered last week's game against the Bengals coming off a calf injury. He didn't aggravate that injury, but he did go down with this ankle injury...and now he's not a lock to make the field in London.

CLE - RB Duke Johnson all good

Source: Medina County Gazette - Scott Petrak

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson (shoulder) is not on the pre-practice injury report Wednesday, Oct. 21, and appears to be fine.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is an explosive playmaker, and we hope the Browns start using him more than just a change-of-pace back. We like him as a RB2/flex play this week against the Rams.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson likely out

    Source: ESPN - Britt McHenry

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (hamstring) is likely out for Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy owners have been waiting for some time for Jackson to get back. Against the Bucs, the Washington offense could have a robust day. From the passing game we like both WRs Jamison Crowder and Pierre Garcon as WR3/flex plays who could pay off nicely in Week 7.

    Friday Update

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins to miss Week 7

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins (ankle) was ruled out for Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a huge blow for this offense even facing the Jacksonville Jaguars. It leaves Robert Woods as the nominal No. 1, and we think he's no more than a low-end WR2 or a WR3. Charles Clay becomes a solid play though, bumping up to TE1 status.

BUF - QB Tyrod Taylor out for Week 7

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor (knee) was ruled out for Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the EJ Manuel show but without Sammy Watkins, whom he had great chemistry with last week. We wouldn't touch Manuel unless we were in a really bad spot or were looking for low-cost value in Daily Fantasy. The Jaguars made Brian Hoyer look good so the chance is there for a solid game by Manuel, but he's without key pieces of his offense.

SF - RB Carlos Hyde has stress fracture

    Source: CBSSports.com - Tracy Wolfson

San Francisco 49ers RB Carlos Hyde (foot) will play in the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks even though he is dealing with a stress fracture in his left foot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Midway through the game, Hyde seemed to be holding up all right. However as the Niners were trailing, he wasn't exactly running the ball a ton. This is definitely a concern going forward, as the injury could get worse.

San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson should be back on the field this week against the Raiders. We like him as at least a "what the heck" flex in Week 7.

San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hip) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

This hip injury is something to monitor. Make sure Allen practices in full on Friday before you trust him in your lineup.

SD - TE Antonio Gates not on the field

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 22. He suffered the knee injury in the fourth quarter of the team's Week 6 game and was limited after the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rumors are buzzing around that Gates may miss the game against the Raiders on Sunday. Let's watch to see if he can practice on Friday. Even if he's limited, Gates could start and be effective against a Raiders team that struggles against tight ends not named Owen Daniels. DFS players should be considering Ladarius Green if the practice report for Gates reads "DNP" on Friday.

MIA - Miami wants more two-TE sets

Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley

Miami Dolphins TEs Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims may receive additional playing time moving forward, because interim head coach Dan Campbell would like to use two-tight end sets more often on offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Of course Campbell (a former NFL tight end himself) would want more two-tight end sets. We like the idea of using Dion Sims more on offense, even if it would likely cut into the targets for Jordan Cameron. Miami looks better with Campbell as their interim head coach. Let's see if they can keep playing better going forward.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant not ruled out

    Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) hasn't been ruled out for Week 7 against the New York Giants, and head coach Jason Garrett continues to say Bryant is day-to-day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The veteran WR didn't officially practice with the team Thursday, Oct. 22, but continued to rehab on the side. Bryant had another good day Thursday, but the team will continue to gauge his progress and conditioning.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs to remain starter?

Source: St. Paul Pioneer Press - Chris Tomasson

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs is expected to remain in the starting lineup even when WR Charles Johnson (ribs) returns to action. Diggs has received first-team repetitions this week in practice ahead of Johnson.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He should remain in the starting lineup. Diggs has shown he can make difficult catches, and the rookie has earned the trust of QB Teddy Bridgewater. We like Diggs as a "what the heck" flex this week against the Lions.

He's got to be cleared in order to play, and it doesn't look like that's going to happen. If Maclin misses the game, then guys like Albert Wilson and Chris Conley would get more targets.

JAX - RB T.J. Yeldon likely to make return

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Vito Stellino

Jacksonville Jaguars RB T.J. Yeldon (groin) is likely to play in London in Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills if he doesn't have any further setbacks. Yeldon practiced for the first time Thursday, Oct. 22, in two weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars offense isn't the same without Yeldon as neither Toby Gerhart or Denard Robinson did much last week. The Jags ran for just 83 yards in Week 6 against the Houston Texans, and 37 of that came on quarterback scrambles.

Detroit Lions RBs Joique Bell (ankle) and Theo Riddick (groin) were limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions RB situation is a mess due to injuries, fumbling and inconsistency. The only back we like this week against the Vikings is Riddick..and that's only as a flex play in PPR leagues.

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (toe) participated fully in practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

Jones is another player who could produce in this backfield but you never know when. Try to find other options if you can. Alfred Morris who we have as the leader for carries is an RB4 or "what the heck" flex in Week 7.

Lewis gives great dimension to the Patriots offense but was almost a non-factor in last week's game. We'll keep an eye on this development as he could be a solid RB2 if he plays and is healthy.

JAX - TE Julius Thomas practices in full

    Source: Jaguars.com

Jacksonville Jaguars TE Julius Thomas (chest, hand) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas had a great day against Houston, but he was almost targeted too much and was the focus of two of Blake Bortles' interceptions. We think he'll still see a healthy dose of offense, but not that much—he's a fringe TE1 and safer as a TE2.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger limited again

    Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We suspect Landry Jones will be under center this weekend against Kansas City and while he's an interesting desperation play, we would avoid him. He's barely QB3 material.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota making progress

    Source: NFL.com

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (knee) is making progress from his knee injury, but the team won't know more about his status for Week 7 against the Atlanta Falcons until Friday, Oct. 23, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team has to be cautious. This season isn't completely lost but the Titans are not Super Bowl or even playoff contenders right now. If need be, Zach Mettenberger can hold the position down for a while. They have to take the long view, not panic for short term potential. For fantasy purposes, neither one is better than a QB3 this week.

NYG - Odell Beckham prepared to play

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hamstring) said he will practice Saturday, Oct. 24, and play in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, which is the same program he was on last week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The expectation is Beckham will play and in a hugely important game against Dallas, you can expect him to put up some good numbers. Think WR1 for fantasy purposes.

DAL - RB Joseph Randle still lead back

    Source: DallasCowboys.com - David Helman

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle will continue to get the bulk of the carries, according to offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. The team wants to get RB Christine Michael involved as well, though.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We still like Michael more from a talent standpoint, but you have to realize the risk here. He's an RB3 on his own with a nice ceiling because if he gets hot, the Cowboys will ride him. On the other hand he has not shown he can grab the brass ring when he has had the chance in the past and if Randle (or Darren McFadden) gets hot, Michael could be left out in the cold. He's an interesting reach play in a daily fantasy GPP as well, but in cash tournaments might be to risky.

NYG - WR Rueben Randle limited Thursday

    Source: Giants.com

New York Giants WR Rueben Randle (hamstring) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Randle has had moments but they haven't added up to a ton of fantasy value. We're confident he will get some looks if he plays, but not enough to make him more than a WR4 against Dallas.

NYJ - QB Ryan Fitzpatrick practices

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (elbow) practiced Thursday, Oct. 22, and his elbow isn't a concern.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fitzpatrick has actually been playing pretty well overall, though he still turns the ball over too much. He's not a safe start but could fill in if you're desperate for some upside as the Jets might have to throw a lot to keep up with the Patriots.

BUF - RB Karlos Williams won't play in London

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills RB Karlos Williams (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams had a promising start to the season but the concussion issue has taken him down. It's going to be all LeSean McCoy this weekend, and we see him as a nice RB1 play against Jacksonville.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson sitting Thursday

Source: The Washington Post - Master Tesfatsion

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (hamstring) is out of practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not looking for for Jackson this weekend and we'd look elsewhere. There's still no real timetable for a return, but we think he's worth holding onto on deeper rosters unless you're loaded at receiver.

TEN - RB David Cobb returns to practice

Source: The Tennessean - John Glennon

Tennessee Titans RB David Cobb (calf) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 21. He's eligible to return Nov. 8 against the New Orleans Saints.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobb hasn't been a factor because of injury and now returns to a crowded and ineffective backfield. He should be able to take over as the starter in a short amount of time. We like Cobb's willingness and power when running inside. The rookie can grind down an opponent, and he gets stronger as the game goes on. Add him now if you've got the bench space for a preemptive pickup.

NYG - WR Victor Cruz not cleared

Source: NFL Network - Kimberly Jones

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) had an MRI Wednesday, Oct. 21, and has not been cleared to practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Eli Manning was on local station WFAN Tuesday and essentially said he has zero idea when Cruz will return and that they just have to move forward. That's not promising and keeps him off your roster for the foreseeable future.

BAL - WR Steve Smith's plans unchanged

    Source: WNST.net - Luke Jones

Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith said his plans to retire after the season remain unchanged. 'I'm taking it one game at a time - not really focusing on that other stuff,' Smith said Wednesday, Oct. 21. 'I'm on schedule for what I discussed earlier in the year, and I'm enjoying it with the wins and losses.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If he's going out, he's going out with a bang, that's for sure. Smith has been catches, on fire during this 'last hurrah' and his yards look like the makings of a year to rival his career year in . There's a whole lot of time left, so we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves. For now, just consider him a very solid WR2.

    Saturday Update

DAL - WR Dez Bryant does not travel

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) did not travel with the team Friday, Oct. 23, so he could give his foot more time to rest. Bryant is still considered doubtful for the Week 7 game against the New York Giants but probably will be ruled out if he does not make the trip Saturday, Oct. 24.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll be watching for something to happen Saturday. It's Jerry Jones' show so nothing is out of the question but it's looking like Bryant will miss this week.

SD - TE Antonio Gates a game-time decision

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Michael Gehlken

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (knee) will be a game-time decision in Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders while dealing with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Gates admits he's never dealt with a knee injury in his 13-year career, making this a bit different. He didn't practice all week and is questionable against the Raiders. Whether Gates can make the injury worse by playing will determine if he'll give it a go Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Local writers insist that Gates has played through worse, but his sprained MCL could threaten his status. He can play without practicing and play well, but there's no guarantee Gates will be active. Ladarius Green is the perfect hedge, but Mychal Rivera, Clive Walford, Larry Donnell, or Crockett Gillmore would work as a hedge, too, since they play at the same time or after Gates.

DAL - Slim chance WR Dez Bryant plays

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan left open the possibility that WR Dez Bryant (foot) could have a limited role in the Week 7 game against the New York Giants. However, Bryant hasn't taken a single practice snap with QB Matt Cassel. 'I think Dez could do pretty much anything Dez decides to do,' Linehan said. 'When he is on the field, he is a threat for us. So regardless of a lot of background, he can be a threat for us.' Bryant has been fitted with a wider and sturdier right cleat to help him when he plays.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant shouldn't be trusted this week if he is active, but obviously he is close to returning and should come back on the short end of his 8-12 week timeframe for return from a Week 1 injury, if not beat it.

STL - WR Tavon Austin's status in question

    Source: StLouisRams.com

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (thigh) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is listed as questionable for the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Austin should benefit from Todd Gurley drawing a safety into the box, but his being questionable coming out of a bye makes us worried about his condition this week.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson, WR Charles Johnson will play

    Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (finger) and WR Charles Johnson (rib) both practiced in full Friday, Oct. 23, and are probable for Week 5 against the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is fighting for his spot in the starting lineup with Stefon Diggs, so his performance against the Lions is crucial. He's probably not worth a spot in typical leagues.

DET - TE Eric Ebron expected to play

    Source: DetroitLions.com

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron (knee) practiced in full Friday, Oct. 23, and is probable for Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ebron will return this week and provide a decent bye week fill-in for Martellus Bennett and Tyler Eifert owners.

KC - WR Jeremy Maclin listed as questionable

    Source: KCChiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin (concussion) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is listed as questionable for the Week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Maclin looks like he'll play this week, and sheer volume makes him a WR2/WR3 play in PPR leagues, but the Chiefs offense doesn't seem to be going anywhere without Jamaal Charles.

NYJ - WR Brandon Marshall, WR Eric Decker probable

    Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets WRs Brandon Marshall (calf) and Eric Decker (knee) were both limited in practice Friday, Oct. 23, but are probable for Week 7 against the New England Patriots.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Marshall has a stiff test against Malcolm Butler, so Decker is a terrific play this week.

SD - Friday injury report for Week 7

    Source: Chargers.com

San Diego Chargers CB Craig Mager (hamstring), FS Eric Weddle (groin) and LB Tourek Williams (foot) have been ruled out for the Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders. LB Manti Te'o (ankle) is listed as doubtful. OT King Dunlap (concussion), OG Chris Hairston (ankle) and C Chris Watt (concussion, groin) are listed as questionable, while SS Jahleel Addae (back), LB Kyle Emanuel (shoulder), OG D.J. Fluker (ankle) and OG Orlando Franklin (ankle) are listed as probable. Mager, Weddle, Williams and Te'o did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 23. Hairston and Watt were limited during practice, while the other players fully participated in practice.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The offensive line is getting healthier for the Chargers, but is stiill nowhere close to full strength.

NE - RB Dion Lewis listed as questionable

    Source: Patriots.com

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (abdomen) was limited in practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is questionable for Week 7 against the New York Jets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lewis should play, and maybe even be the focal point of the backfield with the Jets heavy front four, but he didn't look quite like himself against the Colts last week. Consider him an RB2 with an RB1 ceiling this week.

    SD - Stevie Johnson questionable

    Source: Chargers.com

San Diego Chargers WR Stevie Johnson (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is listed as questionable for the Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson is on the probable side of questionable, and if Antonio Gates can't go, that will enhance his ceiling. Still, the late start and first week back makes Johnson a risk probably not worth taking this week.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon listed as questionable

    Source: Chargers.com

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is listed as questionable for the Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon's injury just makes it easier to bench him. He hasn't come close to delivering on the draft capital he cost with Danny Woodhead still playing a large role.

SD - WR Keenan Allen questionable

    Source: Chargers.com

Updating a previous report, San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hip) was limited during practice Friday, Oct. 23, and is listed as questionable for the Week 7 game against the Oakland Raiders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Consider Allen on the probable side of questionable, although having Malcom Floyd, Michael Crabtree, Josh Huff, Kamar Aiken or Michael Floyd to hedge an inactive would help us sleep Saturday night.

HOU - WR Nate Washington probable

    Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans WR Nate Washington (hamstring) practiced Friday, Oct. 23, and is probable for Week 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington is set up for a good game and stretch with Cecil Shorts out and defenses likely devoting more resources to DeAndre Hopkins going forward.

PIT - QB Ben Roethlisberger unlikely to play

    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee), who is questionable to play in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, is more likely to return in Week 8. If playing through pain is his only obstacle, he could suit up against the Chiefs. However, if his lateral agility is still in question, he's likely to sit out another week. Head coach Mike Tomlin said this week the team is preparing as if QB Landry Jones will make his first career start.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers have been able to win two of three without Roethlisberger, so they can afford to save him for next week's tilt with the Bengals. This game is winnable without Roethlisberger if Jones plays the way he did last week.

PHI - RB DeMarco Murray back to normal self

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray said he finally feels back to his normal self after rushing for over 100 yards in Week 6. However, he'll face a Carolina Panthers run defense in Week 7 that is allowing only 3.9 yards per carry this year. Murray had 21 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown last week against the New York Giants and has 41 carries for 195 yards and two scores in the last two weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray is about the only thing in Philadelphia that is working on offense right now. He's a RB2 start this week, but one that you shouldn't have much optimism about because of the matchup.

TEN - QB Marcus Mariota out Sunday

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (knee) will not play Sunday, Oct. 25, against the Atlanta Falcons, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if the Titans adjust the offense to embrace Mettenberger's willingness to throw 50-50 balls and hang in the pocket on five and seven step drops to find receivers downfield. This is good news for Dorial Green-Beckham, who will see more work with Harry Douglas out.

NYJ - RB Bilal Powell out for Week 7

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets RB Bilal Powell (ankle) is out for Week 7 against the New England Patriots. The team will discuss whether to activate RB Stevan Ridley (knee) off the Physically Unable to Perform list over the next two days. RB Zac Stacy could serve as the backup Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stacy has some value in deep leagues as the current handcuff to a back with a long injury history on a team with a great defense.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson sitting Friday

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson (hamstring) is out of practice Friday, Oct. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jackson's hamstring injury seems to be a lot more serious than let on when he suffered it. Washington is off next week, so hopefully Jackson will return in Week 9.

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle) is practicing Friday, Oct. 23.

Bell should return to the lineup this week, but he has no fantasy value.

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (hamstring) was limited in practice Saturday, Oct. 24, but head coach Bruce Arians is optimistic that Brown will be able to play Monday, Oct. 26, against the Baltimore Ravens. Brown is a game-day decision.

Footballguys view: Brown has been a little banged up with this hamstring injury, but the Cardinals have taken it easy on him this week in practice. They play on Monday night, but we feel comfortable recommending him as a WR2/flex play.

Gates is supposed to be a game time decision, so you may want to pick up Green if he's available and if you have a bench spot.

True gametime decision makes it hard to get "better" info. But a sprained MCL does not sound good, it is same injury keeping Mariota out. I have him in one league and since he plays late and injury does not sound good, I played it safe and and benched him picking up Ben Watson, who I think has a tad better potential than the tight ends that play at 4:00 ET (Gates start time) or later.

    Sunday Update

PIT - QB Landry Jones to start

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones will start in place of QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) Sunday, Oct. 25, against the Kansas City Chiefs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Roethlisberger just isn't ready. Jones was seeing the field positively last week, and he certainly had a connection with Martavis Bryant.

MIN - WR Stefon Diggs will start

    Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs will start Sunday, Oct. 25, against the Detroit Lions.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Diggs is a talented rookie who shows a great connection with QB Teddy Bridgewater. We love his "my ball" mentality and ability to gain separation in his routes. We like him as a WR3/flex play against the Lions this week.

Fantasy owners should trust that Peterson will be ready. Dial back expectations just a bit due to this illness.

ARI - WR John Brown limited Saturday

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals WR John Brown (hamstring) was limited in practice Saturday, Oct. 24, but head coach Bruce Arians is optimistic that Brown will be able to play Monday, Oct. 26, against the Baltimore Ravens.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown is a game-day decision. He believes that he's going to play, and if he does Brown could be a WR2 against the Ravens. Have another option ready just in case.

KC - HC believes in Charcandrick West

    Source: ESPN - Ed Werder

Kansas City Chiefs RB Charcandrick West is able to handle the starting running back job, according to head coach Andy Reid. West is expected to be the Chiefs' primary ball-carrier with RB Jamaal Charles (knee) out for the year.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reid has confidence in West, but most fantasy owners don't. In fact, there are rumblings that the Chiefs front office is split on who should be the starter. Knile Davis has played well in relief of Charles in the past, but right now he's behind West. This is a mess most fantasy owners are avoiding.

IND - Blitz not kind to QB Andrew Luck

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck has completed 46% of his passes against the blitz this season, ranking 32nd among 34 qualified quarterbacks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pressure makes any QB look mortal, but the rush is especially impacting Luck this season. The Colts offensive line is among the worst in the league, and Luck has been beat up quite a bit in 2015. Luck's four interceptions against the blitz are second most in the league behind Washington QB Kirk Cousins.

IND - RB Frank Gore remains on snap limit

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts RB Frank Gore will continue to see a limited amount of snaps per game this season because the team entered the season with a certain amount of carries they wanted Gore to receive.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just give Gore what he can handle....the Colts might be surprised with the results. Now that the team signed Ahmad Bradshaw, we should see Gore continue to be limited. That locks him into his RB2 status every week even though there's more to be had with the veteran back.

WAS - RB Matt Jones to be used on third down

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins RB Matt Jones (toe) likely will be used as a third-down back in the Week 7 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since RB Chris Thompson (back) is listed as doubtful for the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones is back from his toe injury, and he's a nice flex play for fantasy owners this week. Alfred Morris will be the lead back, and he could have a strong day against a Buccaneers defense that gives up rushing yards like they're handing out Halloween candy.

PHI - WR Riley Cooper should be on the field

    Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper (knee) is expected to play in the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers even though he is listed as questionable for the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cooper should be on the field, but fantasy owners aren't looking to him with any confidence. Sure, he may get a touchdown here and there but Cooper is not reliable enough to be anything more than a "what the heck" flex in deep leagues.

PHI - WR Jordan Matthews may work on outside

    Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews may see more time as an outside receiver in the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers because of the injuries to WR Nelson Agholor (ankle) and WR Josh Huff (knee).

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Matthews could be drawing the coverage of star CB Josh Norman...no matter where he lines up. That makes him a low-end WR2 in PPR leagues in Week 7.

PHI - WR Nelson Agholor has high ankle sprain

    Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor (ankle) has been dealing with a high ankle sprain and has been ruled out for the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's been a disappointing year for the rookie from USC. High ankle sprains are known to linger, and this could be an injury that plagues him for the rest of the year.

STL - WR Tavon Austin expected to play

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin (hamstring) appears to be ready to play in the Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns after he returned to practice Friday, Oct. 23. He is officially listed as questionable for the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamstring injuries are tricky, especially with dynamically quick players like Austin. We like him as a WR4/flex play in Week 7 against the Browns.

NE - WR Brandon LaFell could play in Week 7

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell (foot) participated in practice this week and could be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list before the team's Week 7 game against the New York Jets.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Savvy fantasy owners should have nabbed LaFell off the waiver wire already. He's worth a preemptive pickup because of the connection he showed last year with Tom Brady.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant primed for a repeat?

    Source: NFL.com - Michael Fabiano

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant faces the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, and the Chiefs have allowed the most yards and touchdowns to wide receivers this season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not about what the Chiefs do...it's about what Bryant can do. We saw last week that he has a connection with QB Landry Jones...the likely starter for the Steelers in Week 7. Bryant is a WR2/flex play with the upside to be the best play of any wide receiver.

CHI - WR Kevin White return remains unlikely

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WR Kevin White (shin) has three more weeks before he must be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list in order to play this season, and his chances of returning in 2015 remain slim.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're likely going to have to wait until next year to see White on the field. We love his speed and big-play ability. White can be a dangerous player in the NFL, but he needs to get healthy, stay healthy and prove himself at the pro level.

    Monday Update

    Source: USA TODAY Fantasy Sports

Houston Texans RB Alfred Blue is likely to serve in a starting role, or at least see plenty of carries going forward, with RB Arian Foster (Achilles') expected to be out for the season with a torn Achilles' tendon.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Chris Polk will be the receiving down back, and with this team's defense and overall play, expect Polk to see a lot of work. Neither will be more than flex plays going forward.

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (shoulder) left Week 7's game against the St. Louis Rams because of a shoulder injury. He was replaced in the game by QB Johnny Manziel.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCown took so many hits in this game, it was only a matter of time before he left the contest. We'll see if Manziel gets the start at home against the Cardinals next week.

Houston Texans WR Nate Washington had nine catches on 16 targets for 127 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-26 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington led the team targets and took the garbage time mantle from DeAndre Hopkins. Arian Foster is out for the season, so garbage time could be a normal occurrence for the Texans.

    Source: NBC Sports - Television

Philadelphia Eagles OT Jason Peters (leg) suffered what looked to be a back injury in the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers and he was carted off in the first quarter. OT Dennis Kelly replaced him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Peters is the keystone of the Eagles offensive line. Everyone's life in this offense just got tougher. The Eagles battled issues at guard earlier this year and had just gotten the running game turned around. At least the team has next week's bye to deal with devastating injury.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill posted a perfect pass rating against the Houston Texans in Week 7, completing 18 of 19 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Tannehill benefited from a Texans defense that seemed to forget how to tackle early in this game. He's back to being a QB1 heading into Foxboro on Thursday.

MIA - Huge half for RB Lamar Miller

Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller had 14 carries for 175 yards and a touchdown, all in the first half, and added three catches for 61 yards and a score in a 44-26 win over the Houston Texans in Week 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller has gone from barely startable to a legit strong RB1 with the coaching change in Miami. May all of our misused players see their head coaches get fired. Miller draws the Patriots on Thursday night in a AFC East tilt.

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (hand) went for X-rays on his left hand after the Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Jim Caldwell said Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stafford has taken a lot of punishment behind a subpar line this year. At least the bye comes after Week 8 vs. Kansas City in London.

IND - WR Phillip Dorsett has fractured ankle

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, Indianapolis Colts rookie WR Phillip Dorsett (ankle) suffered a fractured ankle in the Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints and he is expected to miss four to six weeks, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Four to six weeks could be on the optimistic side of things. Andre Johnson's value still has a pulse.

    Source: ESPN.com

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley had 19 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns and added four catches for 35 yards in a 24-6 over the Cleveland Browns in Week 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gurley predictably crushed this easy matchup. Next week against the 49ers, who are terrible on the road, should be equally good. Gurley is looking like a season changer as a mid-round pick.

CLE - TE Gary Barnidge plays through pain

    Source: The Associated Press

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge (mouth) had a tooth knocked out and needed stiches in his lip at halftime against the St. Louis Rams in Week 7, but he returned to the game and finished with six catches for 101 yards.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Barnidge has arrived as a strong TE1 as long as Josh McCown is the quarterback, which is not a given against Arizona Week 8.

    NE - RB LeGarrette Blount a non-factor

    Source: The Associated Press

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount was on the field for just six snaps against the New York Jets in Week 7, finishing with minus-3 yards on three carries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bill Belichick is too wise to repeated test the strength of the opposing defense. Blount could be used more against the Dolphins Thursday night, but Dion Lewis might be active and Miami has Ndamukong Suh.

NE - WR Danny Amendola shines again

    Source: The Associated Press

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola had eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown in a 30-23 win over the New York Jets in Week 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Amendola made acrobatic catches in the air to help the offense stay on the field against a Jets defense that made the Patriots earn everything. Even with Brandon LaFell back, Amendola has some fantasy value, and it might even be trending up.

NE - Career game for TE Rob Gronkowski

    Source: The Associated Press

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski had a career-high 11 catches for 108 yards and a touchdown in a 30-23 win over the New York Jets in Week 7.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gronkowski didn't have any huge splash plays, but he made tough catches against the rugged Jets defense and took advantage of an all-out blitz to score the touchdown that accounted for the margin of victory. Miami has their work cut out for them Thursday night.

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) said Sunday, Oct. 25, that his hamstring is fine after the Week 7 game against the New England Patriots, but he said he had trouble getting loose during pre-game warmups.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Next week against Oakland is a decent matchup, but Ivory will have to get in a good week of practice to be trusted after the trouble getting loose this week.

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant scores again

Source: The Associated Press - Dave Skretta

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant caught his 11th touchdown pass in 12 games Sunday, Oct. 25, as part of a 23-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant got both feet down in the corner of the end zone and continued to rule that part of the field. With Ben Roethlisberger back next week against Cincinnati, Bryant won't be seeing many fantasy benches.

PIT - QB Landry Jones struggles in first NFL start

Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Ed Bouchette

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones was mixed in his first start Sunday, Oct. 25, against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jones lost three turnovers, including two interceptions and a lost fumble. He was 16-of-29 for 209 yards and one touchdown to WR Martavis Bryant.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones played better than his numbers, but it wasn't enough to win on the road, which is always hard in the NFL. Ben Roethlisberger should start next week, but the Steelers backup QB situation has been upgraded by Jones.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

West should be worth a look against the Lions in London as a flex play now that he has separated from Knile Davis.

NO - QB Drew Brees has strong game

Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune - Katherine Terrell

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees was 28 of 44 for 255 yards, one touchdown and one interception as the Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-21 on Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees had a ton of attempts, but played with the lead and didn't need to press the issue. He also had an interception in the end zone and three more touchdowns that came on the ground instead of through the air for the Saints. He's fine facing the Giants next week.

Source: The Washington Post - Scott Allen

Washington Redskins RB Alfred Morris finished with six attempts and five yards in a 31-30 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Morris is barely rosterable, and will only have value if Matt Jones misses more time. He's not an essential hold through the bye.

WAS - QB Kirk Cousins strong in furious comeback

Source: The Washington Post - Liz Clarke

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins threw for three touchdowns and 317 yards on 33 of 40 passing Sunday, Oct. 25, in a 31-30 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Redskins were down 24 points at one stretch.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins was poised and running the offense with efficiency and precision most of the day. Washington got Jordan Reed back in this one, which seemed to really key Cousins, even though Reed was mostly running routes close to the line of scrimmage. With DeSean Jackson back after the bye, Cousins could be a nice streaming and DFS option in the second half of the season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans had his fifth 100-yard receiving game of his career, as he caught eight passes for 164 yards and one touchdown in a 31-30 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Evans had another score wiped off of the board or he would have had an even bigger day. He's a must start with Vincent Jackson banged up and Jameis Winston not afraid to throw into tight coverage.

TB - QB Jameis Winston strong for Bucs

    Source: The Tampa Tribune

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston was 21 of 29 for 297 yards and two touchdowns in his team's 31-30 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Winston might have lost Vincent Jackson with a knee injury for a game or more, but Mike Evans is back to his rookie year form and Austin Seferian-Jenkins is close to returning. The #1 pick has some streaming and DFS potential down the stretch.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing game as he carried 19 times for 136 yards in a 31-30 loss to the Washington Redskins Sunday, Oct. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Martin is an RB1 going forward. The Bucs have a weak schedule and the offense is coming into focus with Jameis Winston starting to minimize errors and Mike Evans looking healthy. Martin goes to Atlanta next week.

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs caught six passes for 108 yards and one touchdown in a victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 7. He became the first rookie wide receiver in franchise history to have back-to-back games with at least 100 receiving yards since Randy Moss in 1998.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Diggs has to be considered at least a WR3/Flex going forward, and he might be a must-start against the Bears next week.

MIN - RB Adrian Peterson not affected by illness

    Source: ESPN.com - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (illness) had 98 rushing yards on 19 attempts during Week 7's victory over the Detroit Lions. He also had three catches for 12 yards out of the backfield.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Peterson had a slow start, but a 70+ yard run made his day, and with some better goal line luck, he would have fulfilled his RB1 duties. The passing game is coming along just as the Vikings head to Chicago, where Peterson usually has an outstanding day.
