NFL Player News - Week of August 24th

GB - WR Jordy Nelson injury update
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein
Updating a previous report, Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (knee) suffered a knee injury during the second preseason game Sunday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is reporting a torn ACL is the initial diagnosis. The MRI is coming later, but we should proceed as if Nelson is out for the season. Davante Adams takes a big leap up our rankings, and players like Ty Montgomery and Jeff Janis will get a shot to play more in three wide sets. Myles White also has some experience with the team and could figure into the mix. Aaron Rodgers could also look to second-year TE Richard Rodgers more with Nelson out.

ATL - WR Roddy White to have elbow surgery

Source: The Associated Press - Paul Newberry

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White (elbow) will undergo a minor surgical procedure on his right elbow but is expected to be ready for the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Luckily, White has given us guidance on how to use him in fantasy lineups. If he doesn't practice before the Week 1 game, we shouldn't trust him in our lineups, despite the good matchup against Philadelphia. Preseason sensation Leonard Hankerson would likely get the call if White can't go.

PIT - Maurkice Pouncey to undergo surgery

Source: NFL Network - Albert Breer

Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) will require surgery on his ankle, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. However, it is uncertain how much time he will miss.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers will hope for the best and likely put Pouncey on the IR-return, but don't be surprised if this broken ankle ends up sidelining him for the season. It takes a lot of the edge off of the upside of the Steelers offense this year, throwing the place of players like LeVeon Bell and Ben Roethlisberger in your rankings into question.

WAS - Robert Griffin to see neurologist

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has been cleared for 'non-contact' activity in practice, according to head coach Jay Gruden. He has no effects of a concussion but is still scheduled to see a neurologist.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Griffin has been cleared for "non contact" activity, but still is going to see a neurologist, we're not out of the woods on this concussion yet. Either way it feels like Griffin's tenure as Washington quarterback is on shaky ground.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning fine in new offense

    Source: DenverBroncos.com - Andrew Mason

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning looked fine running the team's new offensive scheme during the second preseason game, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. 'I thought he was fine,' Kubiak said. 'We hurt him; we dropped two big third downs, and had a couple of penalties that stalled drives, but as far as him, he looked fine.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning is not going to have the same level of fantasy ceiling in this offense, but he is still in the top 6-8 fantasy quarterback mix. CJ Anderson is more likely to be the fantasy gem in this scheme.

CLE - WR Dwayne Bowe practicing

Source: Akron Beacon Journal - Nate Ulrich

Cleveland Browns WR Dwayne Bowe (hamstring) is participating in practice Sunday, Aug. 23.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bowe is getting a late start on the preseason, but he is a veteran who should be ready with little preparation. It still won't help his chemistry with his new quarterbacks, but Bowe is only really emergency depth this year in a toothless Browns passing attack.

CHI - WR Marquess Wilson's injury not serious

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury in the second preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, but head coach John Fox said the injury is not consider serious.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson is the #3 receiver in the offense right with #7 pick Kevin White out for an extended period. Martellus Bennett and Matt Forte are also prominent in the pass offense, so Wilson is a bit player, healthy or not.

PHI - WR Nelson Agholor solid again

    Source: ESPN.com - Phil Sheridan

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor caught four passes for 49 yards in the first half of a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens Saturday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Agholor has been rough around the edges at times, but his talent is undeniable. He should be the leading outside receiver in the Eagles offense, but his range of outcomes is still very wide. He's worth a pick as one of your first bench wide receivers in the seventh or later.

    Tuesday Update

HOU - No timetable for RB Arian Foster
    Source: NFL.com

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) is recovering his groin surgery and there is no timetable for his return at this time, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If all goes well, Foster may only miss about a month of the regular season. In order to make that timetable, he cannot have any setbacks during his recovery.

NE - New England adds WR Reggie Wayne

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Reggie Wayne (Colts) agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots Monday, Aug. 24, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Unless Reggie Wayne found the fountain of youth in the offseason, he's unlikely to have a lot of fantasy relevance this year in New England. The exception to that might be if Brandon LaFell is not in a position to contribute much this year. If Wayne steps into LaFell's role, he might not be the fantasy WR2 LaFell was once he got rolling last year, but Wayne should still have good value as depth or even a PPR WR3/Flex in good matchups.

HOU - QB Brian Hoyer named starter

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer was named the starting quarterback for the 2015 season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Awesome. Fantasy owners still aren't locked into this quarterback situation in Houston. This news isn't shocking given Ryan Mallett's play and skill set. If Hoyer struggles, the team could turn to Mallett or second-year pro Tom Savage. No matter how things unfold, this isn't a fantasy-relevant situation.

PIT - Maurkice Pouncey out eight weeks

Source: DK on Pittsburgh Sports - Dejan Kovacevic

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (leg) is expected to miss eight or more weeks due to a fractured fibula just above his left ankle.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see the team tag Pouncey with I.R./Designated to Return label. His absence means the Steelers will turn to Cody Wallace at center. This isn't great news for the Steelers, but don't drastically alter where you rank Le'Veon Bell or any of the other skill position players. Bell is still a top-3 pick in fantasy drafts.

ATL - Atlanta still looking to sign WR Julio Jones

    Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is still talking with the team about a contract extension, but the talks stalled significantly last week, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
According to reports, Falcons owner Arthur Blank said he is still optimistic that the two sides can reach an agreement. Jones is willing to play for $10.176 million this season if no agreement is reached. There is a roadmap for Jones in the form of the contracts that Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas received earlier this year.

SD - SD counting on more from TE Ladarius Green

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers TE Ladarius Green will be asked to do more in 2015, especially with TE Antonio Gates suspended for the first four games of the season. Green impressed in the team's preseason game over the weekend, moving the chains on third down and even looking like Gates during one play in which he used his size against a backup safety. He also had a key block later in the game to spring RB Branden Oliver for an 11-yard gain. Green will receive more snaps this year if he can continue to improve on his blocking, something that was a weakness last season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fantasy owners have been waiting for Green to emerge, and now is the time. It's not only the four-game suspension for Gates. The Chargers were hinting at a smaller role for Gates before word came in about his suspension. Green has to prove himself this year, or the team could move on in 2016.

SD - RB Melvin Gordon expected to play

Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Tom Krasovic

San Diego Chargers RB Melvin Gordon (ankle) is expected to play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited to see what the rookie first-round pick can do this year. He's their version of Jamaal Charles, and he could be a fine RB2 with RB1 upside for fantasy owners. We'll see if Gordon can improve his pass-protection ability and make an immediate impact for the Chargers in 2015.

STL - RB Todd Gurley to sit out preseason

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) will still sit out the entire preseason even though he has been cleared to practice, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Not a total surprise here. The Rams spent a premium pick on Gurley--and for good reason. The kid has superstar upside, and he's got the potential to be the best running back in the game--when healthy. Tre Mason should open the season as the starter, and Gurley will be worked into the mix as the season rolls on.

HOU - OLB Jadeveon Clowney on track for Week 1

    Source: ESPN.com - Tania Ganguli

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) may not play in the preseason but appears to be on track to play Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Head coach Bill O'Brien said the team is following the plan for Clowney that the medical staff created. We expect Clowney to be on some sort of snap count as he returns from this serious knee injury.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery day-to-day

    Source: ChicagoFootball.com - Kevin Fishbain

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery (calf) is day-to-day as he continues to nurse a calf injury, according to head coach John Fox.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fox said Jeffery will be back practicing once he is medically cleared. Earlier reports indicate that Jeffery may be shut down for the rest of the preseason as he deals with this calf injury. Stay tuned.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson day-to-day

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hamstring injuries are known to linger if not given enough time to heal. Johnson is a speed back, so a hamstring injury is even more devastating for a player with his skill set. If healthy, he gives the team a nice veteran backup behind Andre Ellington.

DET - Detroit HC talks RB Joique Bell

Source: Detroit Free Press - Dave Birkett

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') is expected to return this season as a bellcow running back, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bell has been nursing injuries all offseason, but Caldwell still envisions him producing similarly to how he did last year. We're not going to buy in quite as much as his coach is because of rookie Ameer Abdullah. His talent has been on full display in the preseason, and Abdullah could end up being the more valuable fantasy asset because of his speed and big-play ability.

DEN - QB Peyton Manning can't feel fingertips

    Source: SI.com

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning (neck) has been able to play even though he has not been able to feel his fingertips because of multiple neck surgeries.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That was an odd revelation in Peter King's piece on Monday. Manning said he has been told by doctors that the feeling may never come back. His completion percentage is 2.8% higher than it was before he had the surgeries. We like the veteran as a top-10 (not top-5) fantasy quarterback this year.

    Wednesday Update

PIT - QB Michael Vick signs
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Michael Vick (Jets) signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday, Aug. 25. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. The Steelers need veteran depth behind Ben Roethlisberger, and Vick gives them that. QB Bruce Gradkowski (finger) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

TB - WR Mike Evans out for preseason

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) is not expected to play the rest of the preseason with the hamstring injury he suffered Monday, Aug. 24, according to head coach Lovie Smith.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Better safe than sorry. Let it slip to owners in your redraft league with a 'Oh My Goodness' tone and see if you can get him to slip down past his current ADP of mid-third round. Add some weeping about how you have him on a dynasty roster and now he's going to miss 'precious time' so that perhaps they overlook his WR1 capabilities in a panic. You know better.

NYG - Return not known for WR Victor Cruz

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) doesn't know when he'll be able to return to practice as he continues to deal with inflammation in his calf. He is, however, confident that he will be able to play in the regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday, Sept. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Outside of this recent inflammation problem, Cruz's recovery has gone off without a hitch. If he's ready to play in Week 1, then expect the Giants to ease him into action until he's closer to full strength.

NYG - RB Andre Williams could move up

    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano

New York Giants RB Andre Williams could overtake RB Rashad Jennings as the lead back sometime this season, maybe even to open the season. Williams has worked on his receiving game this offseason and studied Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell's patience with the ball.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not sold on the idea of Williams taking over for Jennings. The Giants want to use a fast-paced offense, and Williams just isn't that type of back. He's a two-down banger who is limited as a receiver. We like Jennings and Shane Vereen a lot more than Williams in this backfield.

GB - WR Randall Cobb's role unlikely to change

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb said he feels no pressure to replace WR Jordy Nelson (knee) as the team's No. 1 receiver this year now that Nelson is lost for the season. 'I don't think that is an issue,' Cobb said. 'I pressed last year in the beginning of the season, and I'm not going to do that again. There's no need for that. Aaron's going to do his job, he's going to get us the ball. It's my job when I get those opportunities to make things happen.' Cobb had 91 catches for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2014, and his role might not change drastically with Nelson out. Cobb has typically been a slot receiver for Green Bay, while Nelson has played on the outside.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cobbs isn't quite the No. 1 receiver type that the Packers like, which isn't a knock on him—it's just an admission that it's not quite the right role for him. He is a WR1 for fantasy purposes, but would have been in the ballpark for that anyway. Davante Adams will get Nelson's outside job and we see him as a WR2 in most fantasy leagues. Remember though, that part of Nelson's charm is his ability to make ridiculous and acrobatic catches, something which isn't quite as much in Adams' wheelhouse.

    DEN - Evan Mathis signs

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent OG Evan Mathis (Eagles) agreed to a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos Tuesday, Aug. 25.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos have some offensive line issues, and Mathis could be a big help to them. He's a big presence in the interior, and it's surprising some team didn't jump on him sooner. He solidifies the offensive line's interior and will help both the run game and to keep Peyton Manning upright.

WAS - Robert Griffin won't be benched

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) practiced fully Tuesday, Aug. 25, and didn't experience any setbacks from the concussion he's been recovering from. Head coach Jay Gruden said he hasn't thought of using backup quarterbacks. Gruden also said he hasn't considered benching Griffin because of his lack of effectiveness.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They'll roll him out there and if last week is any indication, leave him there behind one of the worst performing offensive lines in the NFL. Hopefully they pull Griffin before he gets hurt, but even if he survives the rest of the preseason, we still don't like his prospects in what seems like a toxic situation--especially with his lack of progress in improving his game. We see him as a QB3 with upside, but that upside might not emerge in Washington with Jay Gruden.

CHI - WR Alshon Jeffery, WR Marquess Wilson still out

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears WRs Alshon Jeffery (calf) and Marquess Wilson (hamstring) were not at practice again Tuesday, Aug. 25. Head coach John Fox reiterated that Jeffery is day-to-day.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They can't afford anymore big injuries, so they should bubble wrap Jeffery. Owners will be fine with that, as he is a WR1 this season and worth a ton of production. Wilson has a shot to make an impact with rookie Kevin White's injury opening the door to more targets, but we aren't totally sold, and currently have him as a WR5 at best.

BUF - Buffalo to use rotation at QB?

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel may each be rotated in with the starting unit Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Joe Buscaglia of WGR Sports Radio 550. All three quarterbacks have received first-team repetitions the last two practices.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans have already made their decision about a starting quarterback, and now it's Buffalo's turn to figure out who is the top guy. Cassel has the experience advantage, but we like Taylor out of this poor group. Taylor has incredible athleticism and a rocket arm. He needs to improve his accuracy and decision making as a passer if he wants to play up to his potential.

STL - WR Brian Quick will play Saturday

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch - Jim Thomas

St. Louis Rams WR Brian Quick (shoulder) will play Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the Indianapolis Colts after fully practicing Tuesday, Aug. 25, according to head coach Jeff Fisher.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things turn around quickly in the NFL. Quick suffered a major shoulder injury last year, and he's been working diligently to recover. It will be interesting to see what he looks like in his preseason debut. When healthy, Quick will start on the outside opposite Kenny Britt.

BUF - TE Charles Clay leaves practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Rodak

Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay (knee) left practice early Tuesday, Aug. 25, with a right knee injury. Afterwards, Clay said he is fine and that he was pulled out for precautionary reasons.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With all the injuries across the NFL this preseason, the Bills are wise to be careful with Clay. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, his quarterback situation is brutal and his new head coach (former Jets coach Rex Ryan) plans on running the ball a ton. That limits Clay's upside and makes him no better than a mid-range TE2.

WAS - WR DeSean Jackson may not play Saturday

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson's (shoulder) chances of playing Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Baltimore Ravens are pretty slim, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Jackson has been dealing with a shoulder sprain.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's funny how they team is cautious with Jackson, but willing to watch Robert Griffin III get crushed behind that horrible offensive line for a quarter and a half. Almost makes you wonder how much head coach Jay Gruden wants Griffin there. Washington knows what Jackson has a lot to offer of course, as do fantasy owners. We see him as a WR2/WR3, and we expect good things from him this year after he was the only good thing about last season's offense.

MIA - WR DeVante Parker not cutting yet

Source: The Miami Herald - Armando Salguero

Miami Dolphins rookie WR DeVante Parker (foot) has not begun cutting on his injured foot yet. Parker is not practicing yet, either, but has been running hard.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

So far, the first-round pick hasn't shown anyone anything much, as he was on the PUP and continues to not practice as he recovers from June 5th foot surgery. On top of all the time he's missed, Parker's behind Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills, Jarvis Landry and tight end Jordan Cameron. At best we foresee a WR4 or WR5 year at best and at this rate, he might not even be ready for Week 1 of the season.

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (hamstring) said he's feeling 100% after returning to practice Tuesday, Aug. 25. Head coach Jay Gruden said Reed looked great and has made progress. Reed admitted he still has work to do, though. '[I want to] not have any mental errors, be real sharp with the playbook and just real crisp with my footwork and routes,' Reed said. Reed said he is excited to be playing this weekend.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not the hammy that worries us, it's the propensity for injuries across the board. Well, that and the frighteningly messy state of the quarterback competition. We see Reed as no more than a TE2, and a bit of a dicey one at that unless somehow this offense gets its act together.

IND - OLB Robert Mathis comes off PUP
    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells
Indianapolis Colts LB Robert Mathis (Achilles') was removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, Aug. 25. He was placed on the PUP list at the start of training camp as he continued his rehab from a torn Achilles' he suffered in September of last year.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's unknown if Mathis will be able to play in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, and owner Jim Irsay said it could be late September or early October before Mathis plays.

CAR - WR Devin Funchess limited Tuesday

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess (hamstring) was limited in practice Tuesday, Aug. 25.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
With Funchess now the team's WR1, they need to be cautious with him.

GB - WR Ty Montgomery the WR3?

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Haudricourt

Green Bay Packers WR Ty Montgomery will be the slot receiver in practice this week with WR Jeff Janis, WR Myles White, WR Larry Pinkard, WR Ed Williams and WR Jared Abbrederis competing for a spot after him.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The rookie from Stanford is not what you'd call a polished player, but he's certainly exciting with the ball in his hands. His game is all about gashing defenses after the catch. Montgomery can turn short routes into long gains, and he's hard to get lined up to tackle in the open field because of his agility.

In regards to dead arm? It very well may be true. As far as him underperforming when he needs to be clutch, you can go back to his college years and see it is par for the course for him to lay an egg in the big game more often than not.

i know, totally agree. Manning's cryptonite is Gators or playoffs. I was referring to his no feeling in fingertips. He's blessed to have faced arguably the worst Qb in Super Bowl history, during a playoff run of 4 TDs and 7 INTs. Worse than Dilfer, Brad Johnson, or any winning Super Bowl Qb.

    Thursday Update

TB - PK Connor Barth joins Tampa Bay

Source: The Tampa Tribune - Roy Cummings

Free-agent PK Connor Barth (Broncos) agreed to terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday, Aug. 26, on a two-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That didn't take long. Barth was released by the Broncos on Tuesday, and he's found a new team in a day. His leg may not be that strong, but Barth can be accurate on shorter field goals.

NE - WR Julian Edelman's return date unknown

Source: Boston Herald - Jeff Howe

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (ankle) hasn't taken part in team drills since suffering an ankle injury Aug. 2, but he feels that he is close to returning. However, he wouldn't say that he'll be ready to play in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 16 days. 'Ask Bill (Belichick),' Edelman said. 'We're taking it day by day. I think I'm 10 seconds better than the last 10 seconds.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's the Patriots....we'll have no real feel on when exactly Edelman will return. Stay tuned.

GB - QB Aaron Rodgers may be limited Saturday

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers could see limited snaps during the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, and there is a chance he could sit out the entire game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

After the Jordy Nelson injury, we're not surprised by this news. The Packers are going to be incredibly cautious with their superstar quarterback.

CHI - WR Eddie Royal dealing with injury

    Source: ESPNChicago.com - Jeff Dickerson

Chicago Bears WR Eddie Royal (hip) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 26, because of a hip injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

With Alshon Jeffery (calf) and Kevin White (shin) banged up, the Bears don't need another injury at the receiver position. Royal's status for the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, is uncertain at this point.

STL - RB Todd Gurley completes first practice

    Source: ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner

St. Louis Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) made it through his first team drills in practice Tuesday, Aug. 25, and he worked on occasion with the first-team offense.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for his fantasy GMs, but the Rams are being cautious with him and have Tre Mason there as well. We mostly see Gurley as a low-end RB2 or a very good RB3. Mason is lower down the pecking order, sitting as an RB4.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel's injury not serious

    Source: ESPNCleveland.com - Tony Grossi

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) has no structural damage in his injured elbow. Head coach Mike Pettine said Manziel has been dealing with the sore elbow since high school.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's not a serious injury, but it's bothered him since high school? Manziel is going to begin the season as a backup quarterback behind Josh McCown. If McCown struggles, then Manziel might get a chance to start.

KC - RB Knile Davis seeing more work

Source: The Kansas City Star - Blair Kerkhoff

Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis has been playing more this preseason. Davis said he's been enjoying the extra repetitions as RB Jamaal Charles rests. 'This is what the preseason is for,' Davis said. 'Everyone knows who the starters are. Backups get the opportunity to show what they can do.' Offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said the one aspect of Davis' game that has stood out is his ability to catch the football. Davis said he'd like to continue his catching consistence and give the Chiefs versatility as a receiver.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Davis is one of the best backup running backs in the league. He's the handcuff to Jamaal Charles, and fantasy owners should be looking to take him off the board in the 10th round. Even as a reserve player, we could see Davis get about 100 carries as a complementary back behind Charles.

DET - WR Calvin Johnson expected to sit Friday

Source: The Oakland Press - Paula Pasche

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is not expected to play in the third preseason game Friday, Aug. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're not going to see Johnson in the preseason. He's fully recovered from the ankle injury that bothered him last year, but the team wants to make sure that he stays fresh for the entire 2015 season.

MIA - DeVantre Parker unsure of Week 1 return

Source: Palm Beach Post - Andrew Abramson

Miami Dolphins rookie WR DeVante Parker (foot) isn't sure if he'll be healthy enough in time for Week 1. He and the Dolphins don't want to have rushed return just to see Parker aggravate the injury.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Dolphins just need to take it easy here. Parker has amazing upside as a big-play receiver in the NFL. We'd like to see him eased back into action. On the Dolphins offense, Parker could eventually start on the outside opposite Jarvis Landry. Fantasy owners are going to have to wait for him to get his chance. When he does, Parker could shine.

ARI - WR Michael Floyd may be ready

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Updating previous reports, Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd (fingers) has no timetable for his return, but head coach Bruce Arians is optimistic Floyd will be ready for Week 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on Floyd's recovery as the preseason rolls on. In the meantime, watch to see how John Brown performs in his place.

HOU - OLB Jadeveon Clowney won't play in preseason game

    Source: ESPN.com - Tania Ganguli

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) will not play in the team's third preseason game against the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Aug. 30, as the team continues to follow a medical plan for their linebacker. Houston is likely to ease Clowney in the rotation with LBs Whitney Mercilus and John Simon. 'I'm rusty,' Clowney said. 'I'm just trying to get as many reps as I can. Tell coach to put me in as much as possible. They're not trying to rush me back. Working me in slowly. I'll still be trying to get as many reps as I can so I can get ready for the game.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Clowney may never be the same again after this injury. The Texans are going to be incredibly cautious with him as they ease Clowney back into action.

BAL - TE Dennis Pitta's status unknown

    Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta's (hip) status is unknown as to whether he will play this season, according to QB Joe Flacco.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Pitta is trying to make it back, but his injury was so severe that he might never play again. In the meantime, the Ravens are going to turn to second-year pro Crockett Gillmore and rookie Maxx Williams at the position.

DEN - Brandon McManus wins job

Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck

Denver Broncos PK Brandon McManus won the kicking job as PK Connor Barth was released Wednesday, Aug. 26.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's always possible the team could bring in another guy but for now, McManus looks like a great value as he'd been under the radar. He's a top-10 kicker for fantasy owners, and his strong leg (he hit a 70-yard field goal in practice) helps in leagues that award bonuses for distance.

PIT - QB Bruce Gradkowski lands on IR

    Source: SI.com

Updating a previous report, the Pittsburgh Steelers placed QB Bruce Gradkowski (finger) on the reserve/injured list Tuesday, Aug. 25, ending his 2015 season. The team signed QB Michael Vick to work as the backup to QB Ben Roethlisberger.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gradkowski hasn't thrown a meaningful pass - or heck, an un-meaningful one either - in close to three years. Chances are this is his last round-up.

    Friday Update

PIT - WR Martavis Bryant failed tests
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant's impending four-game suspension is for failing marijuana tests, according to a source. The suspension's appeal is in its latter stages.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant's suspension is currently being appealed. Stay tuned. In the meantime, watch the ADP of Markus Wheaton rise. It was already too low as Wheaton had been working as the team's second receiver opposite Antonio Brown. With this Bryant suspension, we'll see fantasy owners pay more attention to Wheaton.

PHI - RB DeMarco Murray not sure of workload

    Source: CSNPhilly.com - Corey Seidman

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray said he doesn't know what the running back rotation will be this year, but he said he doesn't expect to 'alternate series' with RB Ryan Mathews.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He shouldn't although one would imagine Eagles head coach Chip kelly is well aware of the large load Murray carried in 2014 and will rest him more than usual. While we don't expect Murray to carry as many balls or total the same amount of yards as he did last season, we do believe he will be an excellent RB1 and should go in the first round if drafts.

PIT - WR Markus Wheaton ready for breakout?

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Markus Wheaton could be primed for a breakout season, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wheaton is certainly undervalued in the fantasy community--even before the news of Martavis Bryant's potential suspension. We're seeing Wheaton go off the board as a WR5, but that ADP should rise as people realize that he's already the second wide receiver on one of the league's most high-powered offenses.

HOU - RB Arian Foster could return Week 2

Source: ESPN 97.5 Houston - Jayson Braddock

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (groin) has been working out in Houston, and he's expected to return to the field in some facet by Week 2 to Week 4, according to ESPN 97.5 in Houston's Jayson Braddock.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for fantasy owners of Foster, but not so wonderful for those who have Alfred Blue. We've seen Blue getting drafted in the sixth round of drafts, while Foster is going just one round earlier. That could actually make Foster a bit of a value as when healthy he's at least a solid RB2.

PHI - WR Nelson Agholor the second-best receiver?

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles WR Nelson Agholor should be the 'second-most productive receiver on the team when the season ends,' according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Given the other receivers, this comes as no surprise. Agholor has impressed this summer and with Jordan Matthews remaining in the slot, should see a lot of targets outside. We won't get too carried away though, as he remains a WR3 right now, though a cracking good one.

BUF - WR Sammy Watkins shining in practice

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins has been able to beat CB Stephon Gilmore in practice on multiple occasions, and Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News called Watkins the August MVP.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We know how good Watkins is, but we also know how bad the guys throwing him the ball are. While he has the ability to be a WR1 in fantasy, his situation - poor quarterbacks, heavy run focus - leave him as a WR2.

PIT - WR Darrius Heyward-Bey may be No. 3 WR
    Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey could be the No. 3 wide receiver if WR Martavis Bryant has to sit out the first four weeks of the regular season.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We've seen what Heyward-Bey can do and it's not terribly exciting. The upside is that his ADP has been nothing - he was going undrafted and that's unlikely to change immediately. However you can't just assume he's a WR3 or WR4 like Bryant was. We wouldn't expect more than WR5 numbers from him.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray working with hands

    Source: RaiderBeat.com - Steve Corkran

Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray has been working on his hands in order to improve as a receiver and make himself an all-around player.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're interested in seeing what Murray can do this year. He's a big back with an upright running style, but he's got the speed to score from anywhere on the field. Murray is going to be complemented by Roy Helu this year in Oakland. Even if Murray has improved as a pass-catcher, we can't imagine him being a better option than Helu. Murray has a current ADP of RB14 (3.08) in 12-team PPR leagues right now, and that is just a bit too high. We like him more as a top-20 fantasy RB, not top-15.

GB - GB starters will sit Saturday

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and the rest of Green Bay's starters will not play Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the Philadelphia Eagles, according to QB Matt Blanchard.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Why risk any further (devastating) injury? The Packers have already lost Jordy Nelson for the season in a meaningless preseason game, and they don't need to get any other starters hurt.

    WAS - Robert Griffin cleared

Source: The Washington Post - Mike Jones

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has been cleared to play Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Baltimore Ravens.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin is in a make-or-break season with Washington. He needs to stay healthy, impress and start playing up to the potential he showed as a rookie back in 2012. We're not counting on it, and fantasy owners should only consider Griffin a QB3.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson should make final roster

    Source: NFL.com - Andie Hagemann

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson is expected to make the 53-man roster despite not playing for his new team yet.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Awesome. An injured veteran running back who might be at the end of his career--and he's had motivation issues in the past. Be bold on Andre Ellington fantasy owners. If Ellington is healthy, he could easily outperform his ADP of RB19 (4.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders could return next week

    Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (hamstring) could return to full practice participation next week, according to head coach Gary Kubiak. Sanders is still on pace to be ready for the regular season opener Sunday, Sept. 13.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Keep an eye on this situation. Sanders is the speed guy for the Broncos offense, but he hasn't practiced with the team since August 8th. In his place, we've seen Cody Latimer impress with the first-team offense. Sanders is going to see a drop in his numbers due to the balanced (run-heavy?) nature of the Gary Kubiak system. We don't like where he's going at WR15 (3.07) in 12-team PPR leagues.

PIT - Maurkice Pouncey to return this year?

    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler

Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) may be able to return this season, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin said how Pouncey heals after surgery will dictate if he's able to return or not.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
They're hoping he can which is why he might be on the IR/Return list soon.

The Steelers are hurting at center right now and getting him back even for half a season is huge. He can begin practicing after six weeks; but Pouncey can't play until after being on the list for eight weeks. Not having Pouncey might make life harder for running back LeVeon Bell, but not enough to change his RB1 status. Back to Top

NYG - WR Victor Cruz out third preseason game

Source: The Star-Ledger - Jordan Raanan

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) won't play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're a tad nervous about Cruz and Week 1 being a thing that happens. This continues to linger and while he is likely just being coddled a bit by the team, and he's supposed to be ready for Week 1, it's something to track. Raanan also recently told our own Andrew Garda in an interview that even if Cruz is back in time for the season, nobody is really sure if he'll be anything like his old self. Stay tuned.

BUF - RB LeSean McCoy still working on side

Source: The Buffalo News - Tyler Dunne

Buffalo Bills RB LeSean McCoy (hamstring) is doing conditioning drills on the side at practice Thursday, Aug. 27.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

They'll be careful with him as they cannot afford to have him injured to start the season, not with the quarterbacks they have to work with. We still think he has something left in the tank and the struggles last year were a bit of an aberration, though we're not sure how much he might struggle with a worse offensive line and offense than what he had with the Eagles. We consider him an RB1, but a shakier, lower-end one.

PHI - WR Jordan Matthews staying in slot position

Source: Philadelphia Daily News - Paul Domowitch

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jordan Matthews is likely to remain in the slot position this season, but he may play in some two-receiver sets on the outside. 'I've been doing some of both (in the slot and outside,]' Matthews said. 'But I'm going to do whatever the coaches want me to do, man. Shoot, if they want to put me at running back, I'll go and do it.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's where his best fit is, really, as he's not really a No. 1 receiver. If Nelson Agholor can ramp up his production in his rookie season, the Eagles will find Matthews open a lot. Staying in the slot allows him to have the best chance to be productive and is why we have him as a solid WR2 in our rankings.

    Saturday Update

WAS - Robert Griffin not cleared to play
Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (concussion) has not been cleared to play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, and will be reevaluated in one to two weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This keeps getting odder and odder. Griffin is already down to a QB3 for us and we really dislike the whole situation in Washington. We're not surprised he's concussed though, because we have eyes and watched him get hammered for a quarter and a half behind a terrible offensive line.

CLE - QB Johnny Manziel to miss rest of preseason

    Source: ESPN.com - Pat McManamon

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel (elbow) will miss the final two preseason games because of his sore elbow.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is more caution than anything else, though this injury seems to have been lingering. He wasn't in line to start, but this could hold him back from filling in early this season if need be. Josh McCown will start the season, and we'd avoid him in fantasy.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant likely will sit out

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (hamstring) likely will be held out of the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, according to owner/general manager Jerry Jones. Bryant probably will miss the final preseason game as well since the starters usually do not play.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bryant doesn't need the work and he remains a solid WR1 in all formats. We'd rather see him get his hamstring right than throw him into a meaningless game and risk more injury.

HOU - OLB Jadeveon Clowney will sit out preseason

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) will not play in either of the final two preseason games but is on track for the start of the regular season, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Texans need him to be the guy they hoped they were getting when they took him first overall in 2014. This has the potential to be a monster defense though it will take more than JJ Watt to make it happen. They're a lower-end No. 1 team defense.

SEA - CB Richard Sherman expected to play

    Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman (hip) is expected to play in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We don't expect him to put in close to a full game, as they need him for the season more than a preseason game. This is one of the top fantasy defenses in the game and is an easy call every Sunday.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch likely to be limited

    Source: Seahawks.com - John Boyle

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch probably will be limited to a few carries if he plays in the third preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29. Head coach Pete Carroll would not say if Lynch will see any playing time during the game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Nothing to see here, just a coach trying to keep an eye out for his biggest weapon. Lynch is a RB1 and will have lots to prove after not getting the ball at the most critical point of the recent Seahawks Super Bowl loss.

ARI - RB Chris Johnson practices

Source: FOX Sports Radio 910 - Mike Jurecki

Arizona Cardinals RB Chris Johnson (hamstring) participated in practice Friday, Aug. 28. He said he will have to see how he feels before deciding if he will play in the third preseason game Sunday, Aug. 30.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We thought he was missing this game for sure, so this is a nice surprise. He still has some big-play ability and pass-catching ability and could contribute a little when he spells Andre Ellington. Right now he's nothing more than a deep bench player, but likely one you can grab a little later off the waiver wire.

TB - WR Mike Evans fine with not playing

    Source: PewterReport.com - Zach Shapiro

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans (hamstring) said he thinks it's smart not to play the last two preseason games with a hampered hamstring. 'There's no reason to risk it,' Evans said. 'I've already proven myself. And this way I can just try to get back for Week 1 of the regular season.' Evans added that if he had to play, he could.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Evans knows he has nothing to prove and that his presence will be critical to the success of the offense and first year quarterback Jameis Winston. Evans is a tremendous receiver and we expect WR1 level production from him this year. Right now his ADP is in the third round, which is a bargain for the production.

IND - WR Phillip Dorsett favorite for No. 3 WR?

Source: The Indianapolis Star - Stephen Holder

Indianapolis Colts WR Phillip Dorsett could be the current favorite for the No. 3 wide receiver position because of his varied skill set. WR Donte Moncrief is also competing for the No. 3 spot.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We foresee Dorsett struggling a little to get production behind T.Y. Hilton and Andre Johnson, along with both tight ends. Right now he looks a lot like a WR6 and he's going in about round fourteen of drafts. That ADP makes him a worthwhile late value in case Johnson ends up having less in the tank than we expect.

PHI - WR Miles Austin not standing out

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles WR Miles Austin hasn't stood out, or received many chances to stand out, thus in training camp. His role is undetermined as he could start on the outside or he could be inactive.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This isn't a shock as it has been some time since he played in a manner approaching good. He hasn't cracked 1,000 yards since 2010, the closest being his 943 yards in 2012. Now he's buried behind much more talented players. Right now he's nearly worthless in fantasy and going undrafted right now. If injuries strike he could be a factor but not now and not anytime soon.
