NFL Player News - Week of January 19th

DEN - Gary Kubiak taking Denver job
Source: CBSSports.com - Jason La Canfora
Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak will take the Denver Broncos head coaching position, as expected, multiple outlets are reporting Sunday, Jan. 18.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Kubiak was a backup quarterback behind John Elway years ago. Now, Elway is the General Manager of the Broncos and Kubiak is his choice to replace John Fox. Kubiak's West Coast system is an interesting fit for Peyton Manning. There are a lot of bootlegs and roll outs that may not be called with Manning under center. At this time, nobody knows if Manning is coming back for 2015. We think he comes back, and gets to play under Kubiak--remember, Manning was considering the Texans after he was released by the Colts in 2012.

SEA - CB Richard Sherman expects to be fine
    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio
Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman (elbow) suffered an elbow injury in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jan. 18, but he said after the win that he expects to be fine for the Super Bowl. 'I'll be 100 percent to play,' Sherman said.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good to hear for Sherman. He clearly was limited in Sunday's game but the extra week off will be a nice bonus.

ATL - Dan Quinn expected to be new head coach
    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is expected to be hired by the Atlanta Falcons for their head coaching position after the Super Bowl. Quinn and new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan planned to be a package deal.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's hard to argue against this Seattle defense. If Quinn can work the same kind of magic in Atlanta remains to be seen but the buzz is that he's expected to get his shot.

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
The Atlanta Falcons hired free-agent Kyle Shanahan (Browns) as the offensive coordinator Sunday, Jan. 18, according to a league source. He and Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who is expected to take over as head coach, planned to be package deal.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We like this move for the Falcons. Matt Ryan and this offense have plenty of talent and should be a team to keep an eye on.

Free-agent defensive coordinator Vic Fangio (49ers) will have a second meeting with the Washington Redskins about the team's vacant defensive coordinator position Sunday, Jan. 18. Fangio also met with Washington Saturday, Jan. 17.

Washington needs a serious overhaul on defense. Adding Fangio to run that side of the ball would be an upgrade.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb spent three hours in a Seattle hospital Saturday, Jan. 17, due to an undisclosed ailment. Doctors initially thought he had appendicitis but this turned out not to be the case. Cobb is active for the NFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Great news for the Cardinals here. Palmer is confident that he will be with the team next season, and with $10 million left in dead money on his contract--we're confident as well. The Cardinals were not the same without Palmer on the field.

CLE - May look at WR Cecil Shorts
Source: Canton Repository - Steve Doerschuk
Should Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts hit free agency as an unsigned player, the Cleveland Browns may have interest. Browns played his college ball at Division III powerhouse Mount Union, and he is from the Cleveland area.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Shorts is a good receiver when healthy, but he's struggled with various injuries during his pro career. He's never played a full 16-game schedule in four years with the Jaguars. His 557 receiving yards this year is a low mark over the last three seasons.

    Tuesday Update

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch mulling retirement?
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch may consider retirement if the Seahawks win the Super Bowl, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Lynch has reportedly told people in private that he may simply just walk away from the game.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lynch marches to the beat of his own drum. It wouldn't shock us if he rushes for over 1,000 yards again in 2015 or retires and never plays football again. Dynasty owners should have already been prepared for both scenarios.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Anderson worked hard once he got his opportunity as the starter for the Broncos. He led the NFL in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns over the final six weeks of the regular season. With Gary Kubiak hired as the new head coach in Denver, we could see Anderson have an outstanding year in 2015.

GB - WR Randall Cobb wants to re-sign
    Source: NFL.com - Chris Wesseling
Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb said his preference is to re-sign with the team this offseason. 'Of course (I want to be back). I think I've made that obvious,' Cobb said. 'Like I've said before: This is a business. You don't know how it's going to go. What direction it's going to go in. You just have to sit around. I hope that I've put myself in the position where it'll handle itself. But only time can tell.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cobb is set to be an unrestricted free agent this year, and the Packers would be wise to lock him down if the price is right. He's going onto the open market after setting career highs in catches (91), receiving yards (1,287) and receiving touchdowns (12). With Jordy Nelson already locked down, and Davante Adams as an up-and-coming player, we could see the Packers let Cobb explore his options in free agency.

New England Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries in the team's win over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game Sunday, Jan. 18. 'He makes contact on every play and seems to enjoy it. He's like a boxer throwing body punches. Eventually, he wears guys down and starts breaking those big runs,' OG Ryan Wendell said. Blount played 42 offensive snaps in the game, passing his previous season high of 30. He also ran for 69 yards after contact against the Colts, according to ESPN Stats and Information.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brady passed Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning at 6,800 passing yards for the top spot by going 23-for-35 for 226 passing yards and three touchdowns.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

SEA - Seattle open to RB Marshawn Lynch returning
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch is expected to return in 2015 with the team more than open to bringing him back at a $5 million salary. 'Mainly because he actually has outperformed his contract and clearly established himself as the identity of this team,' NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on NFL Gameday Morning. 'Basically, they don't have a choice based on the way he plays to bring him back.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Lynch is the centerpiece of the Seattle offense. They do have a couple of interesting young backs (Robert Turbin, Christine Michael) behind him, but we can't imagine Lynch getting dumped for salary reasons.

    Wednesday Update

BAL - Hire Marc Trestman as offensive coordinator
    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Free-agent head coach Marc Trestman (Bears) was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as the team's offensive coordinator Tuesday, Jan. 20. Trestman was previously the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It's a good move for Trestman and the Ravens. Baltimore gets a quality offensive coordinator after they lost Gary Kubiak to the Broncos. Trestman gets to stay in the NFL with a team that grooms head coaches. A notorious quarterback guru, Trestman should work well with Joe Flacco.

DEN - Kubiak plans to talk with QB Peyton Manning
    Source: NFL.com - Dan Hanzus
Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning remains unsure of his future with the team, but head coach Gary Kubiak said he plans to sit down with Manning and talk about their relationship moving forward. Kubiak doesn't think the difference in his offensive style will be a big deal if Manning decides to come back for another year. 'Well, it's easy to build a playbook for him,' Kubiak said. 'I mean, he's been the master at it for many, many years, and you're talking about a Hall of Fame player, Hall of Fame person.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
You can easily make the argument that Brock Osweiler is a better fit for Kubiak's system (bootlegs, roll outs) than Peyton Manning. However, for a coach like Kubiak it would be relatively simple to adapt a system towards Manning's skill set. We still believe he's coming back for another season, but we may not know for at least another few weeks.

DEN - RB C.J. Anderson happy about new offense
Source: The Denver Post - Troy E. Renck
Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson, who finished the year with 849 rushing yards, 324 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, is looking forward to his role in new head coach Gary Kubiak's offense in 2015. Kubiak typically runs a zone-blocking offense that is friendly to running backs. 'I have known about his system for a while, and what he accomplished,' Anderson said of Kubiak. 'One cut downhill and go get it. It fits me and the offense well. It's always been successful. He knows the team we have and what we can do. I can't wait to get started working with him.'
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
An important note for fantasy owners here. Anderson could put up monster numbers in the Kubiak system. He led the NFL in rushing (and rushing touchdowns) over the final six weeks of the regular season. His potential production makes Anderson a consideration as a late first- or early second-round pick in your fantasy leagues.

CHI - Vic Fangio to be defensive coordinator
Source: San Francisco Chronicle - Eric Branch
Updating a previous report, free-agent defensive coordinator Vic Fangio (49ers) will be the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator. Fangio was previously the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Bears need a ton of work, but adding Fangio will help immensely. Coupled with a defensive-minded head coach like John Fox, Fangio could eventually build a top-5 defense in Chicago. The Bears have ranked 30th in defense each of the last two seasons.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) is ahead of schedule and could return for organized team activities this offseason, according to head coach Bruce Arians.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This is good news for the Cardinals, as they weren't the same without Palmer on the field. However, we're not expecting them to rush Palmer back. He could do some light work when team activities resume later in the spring.

JAX - Jags committed to zone-blocking scheme
    Source: ESPN.com - Michael DiRocco
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said the team is committed to remaining a zone-blocking team. However, new assistant coach and offensive line coach Doug Marrone didn't use a zone-blocking scheme while with the Buffalo Bills, and he has preferred bigger offensive linemen. Buffalo had the league's heaviest offensive line in his two seasons as head coach. Regardless, Bradley wants his offense committed to the run to take the pressure off QB Blake Bortles.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The situation with Marrone is a curious one. We'll see what kind of ground game they build in Jacksonville, but we agree that it's wise to have a strong one to help out their young quarterback.

Dolphins GM refuses to commit to Mike Wallace

Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey refused to comment on whether Mike Wallace will be back with the team in 2015.

Hickey danced around the question in his media session at the Senior Bowl, merely saying the decision would be a "collaborative" one. This comes on the heels of owner Stephen Ross admitting Wallace's future with the club is in doubt. Wallace is impossible to trade thanks to his enormous $12.1 million cap number. Wallace found more success in the red zone in 2014, but remains on a different page than Ryan Tannehill when it comes to the deep ball. It's going to he hard for the Dolphins to cut Wallace because they have little else behind Jarvis Landry.

We're excited about what Trestman could do with the Ravens offense. Head coach John Harbaugh said Trestman's familiarity and success with a West Coast offense were prominent factors in the team's decision to hire the former Bears head coach.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles should benefit from new OC
    Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles should be able to develop under new offensive coordinator Greg Olson, according to general manager Dave Caldwell. Caldwell said Olson has the ability to develop quarterbacks and that his style of offense is tailored for young players.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bortles had some struggles as a rookie this year, which had to be expected. While he didn't improve much in his first season, Bortles did get plenty of experience. We'll see if the Jaguars can put better talent around him in 2015.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles developed bad habits
    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles developed bad habits and may need to start over, in the opinion of NFL Films guru Greg Cosell.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Those habits were already developed in college at Central Florida. Bortles has always been more of a facilitator than a playmaker at the quarterback position. Last year did nothing to change that standpoint.

OAK - RB Latavius Murray to be featured in offense
    Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair
Oakland Raiders RB Latavius Murray is likely to be the team's lead back in 2015, and new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave plans tailor his system to Murray's talents. Musgrave has guided a top-10 rushing attack in four of his six seasons as an offensive coordinator. Murray had just 82 carries last year and also added 17 catches and 567 total yards of offense.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We're excited about Murray's upside, provided he can stay healthy. He has a great size/speed combination and looks swift to and through the hole as a runner. Murray can be a featured back for the Raiders, and it wouldn't surprise us to see him put up strong RB2 numbers in 2015.

ARI - QB Drew Stanton should be ready for offseason workouts
    Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss
Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (knee) 'should be ready to go' for the team's offseason workouts after suffering a right knee injury that caused him to miss the final three regular season games, according to head coach Bruce Arians.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Awesome, but the team still isn't going to rush him back. Both he and Carson Palmer were banged up for the playoffs, and the team wasn't the same without them. Expect the team to be cautious with both quarterbacks as they return from injury.

NYG - Could Add RB Depth
    Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Dan Graziano
New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings could have a veteran running back to complement or compete with him next season. The team could possibly add a change-of-pace back and a run-blocking offensive lineman in the offseason.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
This move wouldn't surprise us. Behind Jennings, the Giants will have second-year pro Andre Williams. He's your classic banger between the tackles, but he's not a receiving threat. This is a good RB class in the draft, and the Giants could look for some help there.

Updating previous reports, Indianapolis Colts RB Trent Richardson was suspended and deactivated for the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 18.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Richardson told the team he was dealing with a serious family problem. We're doubtful the team would suspend him if that was the case. He has a $3.1 million cap number next year-all guaranteed-but we think the Colts could cut him loose later this offseason.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Smith would be a good hire for the Raiders at that position. Things fell apart for him as head coach of the Falcons, but Smith is a solid defensive coordinator. We feel he would work well with new Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio.

Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch (non-injury) sat out of practice for the second straight day Thursday, Jan. 22.

Let's get to next week before we start getting concerned about Lynch being out of practice. Nothing to see here people.

NO - RB Mark Ingram wants to return to Saints
    Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra
New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram, who will be eligible for free agency this offseason, wants to return to the team next year, and he thinks the interest is mutual.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
After years of struggling to produce and struggling to stay healthy, Ingram finally put it together with the Saints. Ingram ran for 964 yards on 226 attempts and nine touchdowns last year, which were all career highs. His 74.2 yards per game ranked him eighth in the league.

SF - SF tight end production was awful
    Source: ESPN.com - Paul Gutierrez
San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis had just two touchdowns in 2014, and they both came in Week 1. He also wasn't targeted at all in the red zone after the opening weekend of the regular season after catching 13 TDs in 2013. San Fran tight ends combined for just 39 catches for 423 yards (10.9 yards per catch) in 2014.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Awful might be a nice way of putting it. As Charles Barkley would say, Davis was "turrible" in 2014. The Niners and Davis hope that the hiring of Tony Sparano as the new tight ends coach can fix that heading into 2015.

NE - Seattle to be physical with Gronkowski?
    Source: ESPN.com - Terry Blount
New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski is often a tough matchup for opposing defenses, but Seattle Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane said he doesn't think Gronkowski is 'that good.' 'He's OK. He does have a big body. But from what I've seen on tape, he doesn't like you putting your hands on him. So if we put our hands on him and shake him up a little bit, he won't catch that many balls,' Lane said. Gronkowski caught 82 passes for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. Lane could be lined up often against Gronkowski in the slot in the Super Bowl.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Gronk smash is more than just a saying, it's Gronkowski's mindset. Good luck with Seattle trying physical coverage against him. The weakness for the Seahawks defense is up the middle, and we think it will be difficult for them to slow Gronkowski down.

New York Jets QB Geno Smith has a lot of talent and promise, according to new head coach Todd Bowles. At the same time, Bowles acknowledged that the quarterback position is currently an open slate, with Smith and Matt Simms the only quarterbacks currently rostered.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Smith had an up-and-down 2014, but he's getting a fresh start with Bowles. He did finish the season strong with a 358-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Dolphins. We'll see if Smith can hang onto the starting job and take that next step in 2015.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hoyer is set to hit the open market, but we can't imagine the market being white-hot for his services. He should be kept by the Browns because of the numerous question marks surrounding Johnny Manziel.

CLE - Browns not sure who QB is
    Source: NFL.com - Marc Sessler
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will be working with a new offensive coordinator this year in John DeFilippo, but DeFilippo is unsure if the team's quarterback next year is currently on the roster. 'We're not sure if our starting quarterback's in the building right now or not,' DeFilippo said. 'If he is, that's great. If he's not, that's great, too. Whoever's in that room is going to be coached hard, be held accountable and be expected to do the things that we expect out of Cleveland Browns quarterbacks.' DeFilippo said that all Cleveland quarterbacks will begin the offseason with a clean slate.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
When they say they aren't sure who he is, are they saying they haven't met him or they aren't sure the guy they met is a quarterback? Is one more or less disturbing? A lot of franchises would protect a first rounder to the point of insanity, but not Cleveland. Whether Johnny Manziel is the guy or not, this quarterback situation is alarming. Manziel clearly has growing to do on and off the field, the free agent market is terrible and there aren't a lot of options that will be worth the 19th pick. A year after grabbing a supposed franchise quarterback, Cleveland is back in the exact same place.

The Baltimore Ravens signed WR Aldrick Robinson to a Reserve/Future contract Thursday, Jan. 22.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Robinson has flashed a little bit during his time in the pros, but we're not talking about an impact wide receiver here. He's best utilized as a return man, and Robinson is no lock to make the Ravens roster in 2015.

BAL - QB Joe Flacco on board with Marc Trestman
    Source: BaltimoreRavens.com - Ryan Mink
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco will have his fourth difference offensive coordinator in as many years in offensive coordinator Marc Trestman. However, head coach John Harbaugh is confident Flacco will get along with Trestman after the quarterback was involved in the decision to hire Trestman in the first place. “I think personality-wise, they’re going to hit it off really well. They’ve both very smart, they’re both very detailed and they’re both very direct in their communication,' Harbaugh said.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
We'll see if Trestman can recapture the magic he used to have or if dealing with Jay Cutler for two years sucked it all out of him. Flacco has a big arm but can be inconsistent. Before Cutler, Trestman had turned several vets into Pro Bowlers. Can he get Flacco back to his Super Bowl shape? If nothing else, the passing offense should be more deadly.

SEA - RB Marshawn Lynch levied multiple fines
    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch was fined $20,000 Thursday, Jan. 22, for an obscene gesture he made after scoring a touchdown in the NFC Championship game, according to an NFL official. He's also subject to a fine for not speaking to the media after the game, and the league is considering fining him significantly more than the $50,000 he has been previously fined for not speaking to reporters. An NFL official said there would be increasing fines if Lynch misses sessions during Super Bowl week, with each fine being more than the two $50,000 fines already imposed and the upcoming penalty.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Of course he was. He should send a cake to the Patriots because this would be a bigger story this week and the next if it wasn't for a bunch of balls being under-inflated. Some think Lynch might have some sort of anxiety issue and he might need more help from the NFL and his team. Others think he just doesn't care. Either way, the guy is clearly uncomfortable in front of the press and yet he gets tossed out there with little support from either entity. Expect more of the same next week.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Anyone the Giants bring on will have a shot at depth at the very least. We don't know what Victor Cruz will look like next year but at the end of the day, he and Odell Beckham Jr. have precious little behind them so there is room for new blood. Coates is incredibly fast and has the strength to beat press coverage at the line of scrimmage. Smith is a vertical threat who can make difficult catches seem routine.

MIA - GM praises QB Ryan Tannehill
Source: The Miami Herald - Adam H. Beasley
Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey had praise for QB Ryan Tannehill, saying the team is 'excited' about his progress to date. “We are excited about [Tannehill’s] future as a Dolphin. ... We saw a lot of progress [in 2014],” Hickey said.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Tannehill was expected to take a leap forward but at the end of the day he stumbled a bit. Is it the coaching, is it his weapons or is it him? The Dolphins feel there is progress, but is there enough to warrant an extension for Tannehill? He is in the final year of his rookie contract and the team has to figure out what they want to do with their young quarterback.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Cowboys have to bring Murray back, right? We can't imagine him signing with another team after the season he had with Dallas in 2014. He's the engine to the offense, and it would be incredibly difficult to replace him. Murray is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but we feel the Cowboys will find a way to bring him back.

The Cowboys could place the franchise tag on Bryant this offseason. The tag comes with a one-year fully guaranteed salary of around $12.7 million. Source: Elyria Chronicle-Telegram - Scott Petrak
Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel had a big proponent last year in owner Jimmy Haslam, but Haslam now thinks the team needs a quarterback in order to get their team turned in the right direction. 'We've got to get a quarterback and got to get it fixed,' Haslam said. NE - Belichick Says Patriots Followed Every Rule To The Letter
    Source: NFL.com
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick called a surprise press conference Saturday to further explain his team's activities that led to the league's investigation if the Patriots intentionally deflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game against the Colts.
"At no time was there any intent -- whatsoever -- to try and compromise the integrity of the game," Belichick said. "I believe now, 100 percent, that I have personally and (the Patriots) have absolutely followed every rule to the letter," he added. [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
You're likely as tired of this as we are. Clearly, there's something here and there could be repercussions from this but expect anything that happens to be for next season. The Super Bowl is too big (and too much money has already been bet) for any action to come down that would have an effect on the big game. What could have an effect though is the time and energy that's been expended by New England dealing with this. Belichick said, "I'm embarrassed to talk about the amount of time that I've put into this relative to the other important challenge in front of us."

GB - RB John Kuhn to test market
Source: The Arizona Republic - Zach Buchanan
Green Bay Packers impending free-agent FB John Kuhn said he would be open to re-signing with the Packers but wants to test the free-agent market before signing with a team.

There's just not much of a market for fullbacks. We have a feeling Packers fans will still be hollering "Kuhn!" in 2015.

MIA - WR Mike Wallace wants to return to Miami
Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel - Omar Kelly
Miami Dolphins WR Mike Wallace said he wants to return to the team next season, but he added that he would welcome testing the free agent market if the team chooses to release him.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Wallace has made quite a bit of money with the Dolphins, but he's been a bit of an odd fit. After two years, he's still not on the same page with QB Ryan Tannehill on deep passes. He has a $12.1 million cap number in 2015, but there's still $6.6 million left in dead money on his contract.

NO - TE Graham Considering Off Season Shoulder Surgery
    Source: Katherine Terrell - NOLA.com
Jimmy Graham is still in the process of rehabbing his shoulder. After the Pro Bowl, he'll go back to Miami to train, relax and continue the work he's been doing to heal the injury.
"I'll go back to Miami, I'll be flying quite a bit, twirling in the air a little bit, and doing as much rehab as I can for the next four weeks," he said. "This is a big week for me, just seeing where I'm at. I feel good, which is a positive, trying to stay away from getting surgery." Graham said "as of (Thursday)," there were no plans to have offseason surgery, however it was discussed. "It's something we talked about and is something that's still being debated," he said. "This is kind of a trial to see where I'm at. I've had three weeks off and I've finally had some time to heal. It feels great, and I'm going to continue to do my rehab and get back to 100 percent." Let's hope he can avoid surgery and get back to the Graham we know and love.

SEA - Byron Maxwell expected to be FA priority
Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta
Seattle Seahawks impending free-agent CB Byron Maxwell is expected to be one of the players the team wants to re-sign this offseason, according to general manager John Schneider.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Seahawks want to keep their secondary together if at all possible. Opposing quarterbacks have targeted Maxwell often as they tend to stay away from Richard Sherman's side of the field. He'll be one of the best free agent corners on the market if he's able to explore his options. Seattle is already paying Sherman $40 million guaranteed and an annual average salary of $14 million. It may prove to be difficult to find enough money for Maxwell.

    NO - Sign Delvin Breaux
    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Free-agent CB Delvin Breaux (CFL) has reached an agreement with the New Orleans Saints Saturday, Jan. 24. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.
    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
A good signing for the Saints here. Breaux was the CFL's best corner last year, and he pretty much shut down the Montreal Alouttes star WR Duron Carter (three catches, 25 yards) when the two faced each other in the semifinals of the playoffs. Measuring in at 6'1" 196 pounds, Breaux could earn playing time for his hometown team right off the bat in 2015.
