agree that he was great in college and Im sure high school never saw that though. I don't think that Pats want to deal with a meth scandal with mallet after dealing with hernandez though

No deal FOR NOW, Brady, Mallett, and Garoppolo to all attend OTAs & minicamp. Oddly, Pats may have lost leverage with drafting Garoppolo because Texans no longer offering as much.

I heard about this deal on the radio earlier in the week. Texans should make this deal if they can

    FINALLY a done deal.

Texans acquired QB Ryan Mallett from the Patriots in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

Seemingly on the block since the first day he arrived in New England in 2011, Mallett has been heavily connected to the Texans since they named former Pats OC Bill O'Brien head coach. Mallett adds more depth to the Texans' uninspiring trio of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Tom Savage, but isn't an obvious upgrade. His acquisition should mean Keenum is sent packing. Despite his inexplicable name recognition, we wouldn't count on Mallett starting any games. He's attempted only four regular-season passes, and has never stood out in exhibition action.

And yes, Keenum has been waived.

If the Pats let him go for a 6th, they must have been pretty low on him. Strange timing.

he got beat out by a younger guy I think they had decent confidence in him to let him be the backup last year but they like Garrapolo

Garoppolo made him expendable. Outplayed him considerably in the preseason. Mallet never looked as good as him in his time in New England. Mallet has a strong arm but still needs to work on that accuracy. Sometimes scrambles too early when pressure comes.

Anything still has to be better than Fitzpatrick.

I hate to sound like a broken records, but Texans baffle me. They are a QB away from contending and they go Fitz?!

I would tend to agree, they're not that far removed from good seasons. If Clowney is as good as claimed, that defensive line could be one of the best.

seriously it is confusing, they have most major parts of being a great team. They go with fitz and he is just never going to be that guy that takes them all the way
