depends... if Stanford (anybody) was playing for something big with a win in a bowl then players should play

OTOH --- one freak hit in one last meaningless gm could cost some players MILLION$

Before the playoff system, all the bowls meant something. Now, not so much.

WAY too many bowls. I foresee bowls disappearing in the next few years as the money simply will not be there.
Ticket sales nearly non-existent for many bowls, so all revenue has to come from advertisers.
As rating slide, so will revenue.

More and more TOP/draft pick type players are going to pass on these meaningless games.

I will be watching the 2 playoff bowls and probably 2-3 others depending on what else I am up to.

When they had the BCS, the minor bowl games were irrelevant then too.

I do agree that bowls probably will become obsolete eventually, and you'll have a full blown playoff, and the issue will correct itself. I prefer an 8 team playoff, but also with the bowls. I cringe at the thought of 32 teams and a meaningless regular season.

The Jalen Smith effect. Enough said. An injury to any of these guys in an exhibition game would not get a cent anyone on this forum. Let these guys look out for their futures and we should keep commenting on ours on a gambling forum. It's real life big business folks, get over yourselves.

Good for him. No one raises an eye when coaches bail on their teams for new jobs. Hes soon to have a new "job" one that pays him for his worth and damage to his body. Best not squander that opportunity. Its America capitalism is king. Right?

Belichick would find a way to use him, he could be good out of the slot. Other than that, I'm not too confident in him lasting past three years. I guess I'll come back to this thread then.

hard working? that's sorta like "high motor"

I don't like this trend either and I see it across more and more sports. These college players are "paid" to entertain, even if just through benefits, and should be held accountable.

    Fuk this trend.

I used to watch bowl games religiously. Now I usually only tune-in for the big bowls around New Years. Maybe it's because players don't really care, as well as coaches these days so my interest has waned too.

Absolutely. He seems like a hard worker. However, Toby Gerhart was, along with Tim Tebow, so that only takes you so far.

If they make these clowns repay ALL of their scholarship money and perks for skipping a Bowl Game, some of these guys may have second thoughts. As far as the numer of Bowls go, the Pointsettia Bowl folded up, so we are now headed in the right direction, qs fqr as that goes. We need about 10 more Bowl Games to do the same.

Ya I think he really regrets not playing in the bowl game. At least he'll have plenty of $100 bills now to serve as tissues to wipe away the tears.

Bad news if you're a team in a non playoff/high profile bowl and you got a NFL caliber player considering heading for the draft. Their "advisers" will give this as a case study.
