    Returning starters

I'm looking for a resource that will give me returning starters by position. Specifically looking for OL and DL. Please let me know if you have a site. Can't find the one I used last year. Thanks.

Best bet is to buy Phil Steele's mag for like 10 bucks online. Has every team in D1 and you get a full picture of how many games guys played/started last year that aren't technically a returning starter

Just about every rag out there has a list of returning starters in one form or another. Be careful and make sure how a "returning starter" is defined.

Yep. Thanks. I think he had this info for free on his website last season. Probably what I'll end up doing.

Yep. I'm aware of that problem, but that's good advice, particularly with linemen where it sometimes harder to find out who really is playing. I've seen some publications that will call someone a returning starter where they played the last game because of an injury to the guy who started the previous 10 games.

    Thanks fellas

i think phil steele is the best easily available source......... not sure exactly what's going on, but phil seems be going behind a paywall..... but he should either post the starters in his blog soon or the first cut january 2016 returning starters should be there.

are there other online, easy data sources for returning starters? ............ lots of interpretation, that's for sure.

i love returning starters... but 1) tons and tons of people look at it; 2) alot of the old cliched advice about key areas for returning starters doesn't matter; 3) returning QB matters an awful lot 4) 1st year coach has been death in the past. might have improved more recently though.

What people overlook is just how good are these returning starters. Colorado returns 9 starters on defense. Colorado State returns 4 on defense. Who has the better defense? A team that gives up points by the fist full but returns 9 on defense, or the team that gave up less points but only returns 4 on defense? Indiana returns 8 starters on each side of the ball. Ohio State returns 3 starters on each side of the ball. Is anyone dumb enough to think that Indiana will beat Ohio State straight up?

i agree alot with your first point........ is it good or not so good to have 9 starters back from porous defense? i think in the end it's good. maybe the opposite is the better point: is it so bad to only have 4 starters back from a horrendous defense?

your second point is pretty obvious: no one expects hawaii's defense with 10 starters back to better than ohio state's or alabama's with 2 returning starters. it's all relative to their own level of play.
    \
one good question is does it matter if ohio state or alabama have few starters back? they just plug in 4 star players and off they go.... lesser teams with only a few defensive starters back can end up with a 265 lb defensive tackle starting........ i would though think again it's just the same issue relative to their own competitiveness habitat.

All good points. Returning starters is just one data point. Can't rely too heavily on any one piece of data.

Possible, moreso if the game was earlier in the season perhaps.
