You know, i have done that in that exact situation but only when i am already ahead and mainly at a live NOT online casino. When you do it live though you may get someone at the table bitch at you. If it backfires and costs the table you will never hear the end of it.But i have done it more frequently if i am alone at a Live table.

I once had a table where i was playing alone and this girl came up asking if it was Ok to join. She bet $500 on 1 hand i had like $50 on there. The dealer had a 6 showing i had 2 face cards. I split and won both hands . She ended up losing. Funny thing is if i did not split she would have still lost. She did not see it that way she totally flipped out cursing me out . Basically saying she had $500 on the table and i had no right to do what i did. They had to remove her from the table she got so bad.

Overall though i do pretty well splitting and DDing when i am playing at a Live Casino. When online forget it you lose almost every time.

Basic strategy = never split tens
If you can count, split tens at true count +6

Nothing that another blackjack player does at your table can help you anymore than it hurts you.
You are playing against the dealer & not any other player.

An expert counter could split when the count is advantageous but as a general rule, keep the 20 and almost guaranteed win.

This. While if you do split you still have the % on your side but it is shorter than just keeping the 20.

Statistically, splitting vs. a 6 is the right move and fun; but it is not tight play. I do it online sometimes or when I'm the only one at the table and betting modest. Results too close to 50/50 to get worked up over. End of the day, I don't want greed to unwind an otherwise good session. Play a lot online at 5D (whatever software they use)and I can tell you, empirically, that their algorithm punishes heavy splitters.

    If you do split 10s:

    1. It is not a guarantee, splitting can go sideways and you will have traded in a high probability win for twin disasters.
    2. You have to divorce yourself from the standard play charts that value taking a solid win over long range play.
    3. If playing with others it is extremely bad etiquette. You are valuing a marginal increase in your net-net against having a good time. Gamblers are a superstitious lot, split 10s and in an instant a table of fun people can turn into a pack of raving, foul mouthed maniacs that will curse your mother's womb...and with your mother sitting at the table!
