I never take even money (or insurance for that matter) but it would be very tempting in this case.

Taking even money is -ev, unless you are counting cards and the true count is favorable to take it.

So I would normally NEVER take insurance but with this scenario I think I'd take even money, leave with my $700 profit and get even more drunk.

Well since you aren't playing in any regulated betting pattern, you take the even money. It's not like you are going to grind it out much longer drunk and tired.

If you were playing an actual regulated betting pattern, I would say wave her off and take the chance.

Do you take 'even money' or gamble and hope the dealer does not get a Blackjack also ?
    Do not take even money

    It is a -EV play

the guy who said never push all in at a blackjack table has it dead on. Imagine staring at your 9 and your 2 while the dealer stands over a six and you've got jack s*** behind you.

Or even worse imagine staring at a couple of vowels.

    Anyway....just don't do it.

The Centaur did some pretty simple math for you guys.

    So 100% - 30% = 70% of the time you win 4500

    .7 x $4500 = $3150 which is greater than $3000 (even money)

You are giving away over $100 every time you take even money in this situation
Well, unless the 2 guys next to you are sitting with 10 and 11. If you're gonna use math, what the rest of the table has can totally change your equation, and you're math doesn't even account for the 3 we already know. Plus what kind of moron plays at stakes this high and isn't trying to count at least the 10s and aces?

Either way, by not taking even money it's basically a 1-2 bet that the dealer has a ten. Just take your win and be happy.

Try a simple card counting/ bet varying method. Its really easy and decreases the house's odds

bad idea to go all in, but the 9-2 is bad example since you are all in either way.

Insurance is a bad bet in the long run BUT my momma always said...

"A bird in the hand beats 3 to 2 in the bush!"

If the money you would win is significant to you then take your winnings and bounce. If it's a normal unit bet then let it ride and keep on playing.

best play Evside is to let it ride obviously, but given the situation I would take even money. basically comes down to how much 3K means to you personally

I don't know if anyone else mentioned but not taking the even money is negative bet....circumstances don't matter you take even money every single time, doesn't matter if it puts you up or if it still keeps you in red.

Although you have only four outs (10,J,Q,K) and 9 winners (9 thru ace) for me the price is not good enough.
Its a -200 bet (risking the sure 100 to win an extra 50) and -200 number doesn't sit well when the house has an edge on the other hands you play for hours.

    I just got into blackjack

    Honestly still figuring it out

But I play the video blackjack

If I'm not drinking I normally find it easy to make 30 or 40 bucks

When I start drinking and playing $25 hands like it's candy is when I get in trouble

To answer question Sammy, I believe I take the even money payout

I don't think I've ever taken even money Sammy, and I've had a blackjack against an ace on a 4 figure bet before.

I did surrender on a 10 dollar bet and a woman said I was a pussy.

if you're gonna shoot off 5 bucks a hand who cares, but if you're gonna play 25 or higher you might as well play at a shoe. At least you have the option to count or get a feel for the shoe.

If you are a robot with zero emotions let it ride

The correct MATHEMATICAL answer is to let it ride, but in this case the correct answer is taking the 3k and leaving. The Ulility of this perfectly timed winning hand at even money far outweighs the possible benefits you would derive by letting it ride. Despite the mathematics, you take the money and run.

A similar question is someone gives you 5 million dollars. You can surrender the 5 million for a 20% chance at 50 million. Mathematically the correctly play is obvious, but in reality the average person is a fool to pass up the 5 million.

I'd have to agree here. If you've gone "all in" with a way bigger bet than you would have normally made, then take the even money.

    Take the money.

    why?
    because....
a)If he does have a ten underneath, and you go for it. You will be cursing yourself for a long time and it will effect the many things in your future because the bet amount is way higher than your normal amount.

b)You win because he doesn't have a ten, you are happy for a minute because you won and you let it ride.

c)You win, because you take even money. You are happy, and after a long grind you are up $700 dollars from one hand after being down $2300.

Though you should let it ride if it was your normal amount bet (that is if you aren't counting).

You can play it however you want, but sorry to tell you, taking even money is a negative expected value wager, and a pretty bad one at that (assuming a standard table where BJ pays 3-2).

Hmmmmmmm...... maybe that's why the casino always offers it to players.
