GSP has no real competition at the Welterweight division as of right now, and it would be in his best interest to move up a weight class and get some fights in at Middleweight

Another GSP decision title defense, and looks like he may be vacating the WW title to go fight Anderson Silva. Who would fight for the title Fitch/Penn 2 has been called off, here are some upcoming matches

    UFC 130
    Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story

    UFC Versus 4
    Anthony Johnson vs. Nate Marquardt
    John Howard vs. Martin Kampmann

    UFC 132
Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim

    UFC 135
    Matt Hughes vs. Diego Sanchez

By the time the match is finalized it will be later in August after the Silva fight. Unless GSP gets scheduled to fight Diaz or someone else we wont know until the Silva fight. By this time Shields should be good to go, BJ should be ready and probably Fitch will be ready to go also. I think there's a decent chance the vacated belt would involve 1 or 2 of these fighters. Also if someone gets a great performance in before the Silva fight they could be put in line.

Sounded like dana was pretty interested in Nick fighting GSP. There is also a few more matchups for him between some the guys hoff listed and possibly macdonald, if they can string some Ws together. I doubt he is going to make the jump to MW anytime soon but I hope he does.

Diaz has not fought a good wrestler since leaving the UFC. Sanchez/Sherk were smaller 170lbers wrestlers, doubt he'll be able to handle the bigger GSP/Fitch/Kos

gsp/diaz is one of the few fights the ufc can market and potentially interest fans. gsp has beat everyone else at least once already.

GSP should fight Diaz, vacate the belts, then move up to MW. Then they can have a WW tourney.

I wouldn't say there's no competition. The welterweight division has a lot of good, fresh talent in the form of heavy-handed wrestlers like Ellenberger, Pierce, Story and Hendricks, but one name hasn't risen to the top of the heap yet. Also, if Condit can tear through Kim, I think Zuffa would consider him as a viable contender.

I think Story could pose a real threat. If he can get past Alves he should get a shot. Kid is a beast.

Well after GSP pulled out of UFC 137, the welterweight divsion breaks down like this, gonna be a great fight with Diaz at 143 and if the Condit/Koscheck fights goes down, Condit might lose his chance at the belt.

    UFC 139 Martin Kampmann/Rick Story
    UFC 140 Brian Ebersole/Rory MacDonald
UFC 141 Jon Fitch/Johny Hendricks Dong Hyun Kim/Sean Pierson

UFC 143 George St Pierre/Nick Diaz Carlos Condit/Josh Koscheck

others: Jake Shields, Jake Ellenberger, Charlie Brenneman, Thiago Alves, Diego Sanchez, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn,

GSP's coach said that they could move him to lightweight before moving him to middleweight. That camp is full of BS artists.

Um, I know Condit is fighting Koscheck. I am up to date with all the fights on all the upcoming cards. Quit making assumptions, it's like an illness you've all got.

Koscheck vs Sanchez has happened before, too, but I'd like to see that fight, as well... What's your point? New rule pass where UFC doesn't put fighters together if they had previously fight? I must have missed this. Let me check google news...

Well you just convinced me...I'm going all-in on Ebersole now.

You prob don't even know that Condit/Ellenberger, and Kos/Alves have already fought.

    The curse of Gabe!

Patrick is still a tough opponent, if Ebersole leaves his neck out there like he has in previous fights Patrick could take advantage

MacDonald is the only welterweight who has a legit shot at outclassing GSP. Diaz or Condit could catch the champ but would probably lose in the immediate rematch. MacDonald beats him everywhere. Yeah, I said it. Call me a hypetrain rider if you want, this kid is the real deal.

    You're right on the money.

Macdonald is so calculated and technical, yet so athletic and skilled.

The way he performed against Condit in those first two rounds impressed the hell out of me. I knew we had something special here

I could see him tooling Condit in an immediately rematch, but would like to see how he fairs against a strong wrestler like KOS first.

Welterweight division breaks down with Condit winning a tight decision over Diaz and taking the interm title. Looks like he has decided to wait till GSP to unify the belt while Diaz is in limbo with his drug test issues.

Refreshing from the days when Fitch and Alves were 2 and 3 in the division there are 2 other guys on the verge of a title shot (besides Condit and Diaz) in Hendricks and Ellenberger who both have big fights coming in the near future.

    UFC FOX 3
    Johny Hendricks vs. Josh Koscheck

    TUF Finale
    Jake Ellenberger vs. Martin Kampmann

    UFC FX 3
    Charlie Brenneman vs. Erick Silva
Mike Pierce vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha

    UFC 148
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Demian Maia

    UFC 149
    Jon Fitch vs. Aron Simpson
    Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Thiago Alves

Haven't bumped this in a while, GSP still champ after beating Condit. Now looks like Nick Diaz getting the next shot before Hendricks.
    some interesting upcoming fights

    FX 6: Pierce vs Baczynski
    StrikeFroce: Marquardt Vs Saffiedine
UFC 156 Fitch Vs Maia, Hieron Vs Eric Silva
    ??? GSP Vs Diaz

no current opponents MacDonald, Condit, Koscheck, Hendricks, Kampmann Ellenberger, Alves, Story, Thiago, Kim, Akiyama

Rory is clearly in the top 2 or 3 at WW. He should fight GSP, although I know they won't ever fight... Hendricks would also be a good scrap also I think. There is still some competetion at WW for GSP imo.

UFC 158 was a bigt night for the welterweight.
    GSP def nick Diaz
    Hendricks def Condit
    Ellenberger def Marquardt
    Mein def Miller
    Story def Mulhern

So GSP/Hendricks is next for the title, and only other matchup made is Woodly/Shields at UFC 161. Let the match making begin

other welterweights: Maia, R. Macdonald, Kampmann, Koscheck, Lawler, Pierce, Saffiedine, Alves, Kim,

let's not take Diaz threat to retire seriously, when you see SI front page read, UFC Diaz: "I don't pay taxes". I'm guessing he'll be fighting to pay off past taxes for the next couple years to come.

last night had some significant welterweight fights

    Jake Shields def. Demian Maia
Dong Hyun Kim def. Erick Silva
    Rousimar Palhares def. Mike Pierce

Maia looked like he was gonna be next in line, now no clear contender for winner of GSP/Hendricks

    UFC 166
    Hector Lombard vs. Nate Marquardt

    UFC 167
    Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks
    Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald
    Josh Koscheck vs. Tyron Woodley

    FOX 9
    Matt Brown vs. Carlos Condit

some guys without fights: Jake Ellenberger, Martin Kampmann, Thiago Alves, Nick Diaz, Tarec Saffiedine. Ben Askren??
