A intriguing middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and former welterweight Anthony Johnson will be part of January's UFC 142 card.

UFC officials today announced that verbal agreements are in place for the fight.

UFC 142 takes place Jan. 14 in Brazil, and Belfort vs. Johnson will be part of a main card expected to air on pay-per-view.

    So is Mendes vs. Aldo.

    Great card shaping up!

I'm pretty surprised that they didn't give AJ an easier fight just to test him at 185. Not sure who to pick, but I'm leaning towards Belfort.

Mendes is an awesome wrestler, but you gotta have more than that to dethrone Aldo, I say he takes it in under three rounds.

The odds should come out close to even. They could both KO each other relatively easily.

Aldo vs mendes could easily be similar to Silva sonnen. Mendes has an impressive takedown ability which he will definitely repeat over n over for 5 rounds.

Rumble may end up being the slight favorite as he has the ability to take vitor down.

Well, looking as a Brazilian, Anderson Silva was little known here before the fight against Belfort and UFC RIO, now he's in all TV programs, has signed contract with Ronaldo's company and is making more money than ever. The sport is growing here and all other brazilian fighters want a "piece of the pie". I'm sure we'll see Aldo, Belfort (and any other br top fighter) in the best shape of their lives in this UFC.

I wonder if theyll stand the fight up every 30 seconds like they did at 134.

To be fair, Claude Patrick had James Wilks down on the ground for at least 3 and half minutes of every round at 120 in London which I was at and I cant remember it being stood up.

Why does everyone think there is going to be a KO in the Rumble/Belfort fight? How often have you seen Belfort KO'd... once by a perfecltly placed front kick? Is it because he's getting a bit older? I haven't seen any evidence of his chin demise just yet. And Rumble hasn't been KO'd and has shown a great chin... this will be his toughest test since Kos. I know he's saying this will be a standup fight... but that wouldn't be smart on his part. I have a feeling he takes this to the ground as soon as he can for his best chance to win. Call me crazy, but I like the play on Rumble by decision if the odds are good.

Etim/Barboza is such a toss-up..That fight will be a great FOTN candidate and should end in decision.

I'm also liking Anthony Johnson SU. He has more ways to win than Vitor.

“Mendes is a competitive and hard guy to fight. Me and Maynard have been in touch since UFC 136, and he also said it’s his will to train with us at Nova Uniao [in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil], but nothing is confirmed thus far, especially because of the Thanksgiving holiday. I’m waiting for the answer.”

    line opened -320/+240

would have liked mendes at +240, but at this price i may have to wait for mendes by decision.

ughhh mendes +240 would have been beautiful... I lost quite a bit of money betting against him in the past.

I could see the line moving back to better than +185 though

Wanted to play Mendes at +240 for value.... but at -245 I'm suddenly tempted to play Aldo as a gut play.

Faber ended up at +285 by fight time when he fought Aldo, I'd be surprised if Mendes doesnt end up being something similar
