Anyone here think Zack Greinke is a bit overrated?

Last year or the year before it he had a great start. He went something like 11-0 and people considered him to be the Cy young winner but then he had a rough 2nd half of the season. I did thought Greinke was a phenomenal pitcher.

This year however, i see his record is 4-10. His ERA is around the 4 and yes last year and the year before that the Royals never gave him run support. However, the Royals average the most runs in baseball yet he has a poor record. Now I think Zack Greinke is a good pitcher but now I'm starting to 2nd guess if he is overrated. He has gotten crushed many times this year and his team scored a decent amount of runs for him.

I mentioned how Jake Peavy was the most overrated pitcher in baseball because he pitched at Petco and is horrible away from Petco and cannot pitch against AL teams and that is clearly shown this year. Also because many considered him an elite pitcher which i think was the biggest joke i ever heard about elite pitchers.

However, there is something about Greinke that makes me feel he is a bit overrated but not like that fraud Jake Peavy. He now has run support yet he is 4-10 and has a 4.01 ERA. Does anyone else think he gets way more respect than he should? Now i think he is a decent pitcher but i think he gets way too much praise even though many don't consider him an elite pitcher.

Greinke has elite stuff. I think the problem with the guy has always been in his head. Anybody that can pitch (2009 stats) 229.1 innings in the bigs and walk away with a 2.16 ERA 1.07 WHIP is in the elite class. Jake Peavy was once one the best picthers in all of baseball but he's had alot of arm problems. Peavy in 2007 pitched 223.1 innings with a 2.54 ERA 1.06 WHIP and 240 K's. That's just silly right there.

Yes but Peavy beat only the bad teams. He had trouble with Atlanta and the Cubs... the good team.s All he did was beat the crappy teams and when interleague play came, he would got rocked almost every outting.

Did someone just say the Cubs are a good team?

...anyway, yes Greinke is overrated. He's good, probably a 3 on playoff contending teams.

I think Peavy was outstanding for a couple years wherever he played. We'll see if Greinke was a one year wonder or not.

Greinke has proved he's really good, but he's a mental case, needs to work on his psychologic to become an elite pitcher.

And tonight he loses to the Seattle Mariners... the worst offensive team i ever seen in baseball since the 06 or 07 San Diego Padres. He gives up 6 runs in 7 innings to the worst offense in baseball. He is 7-11 and has a 4.14 ERA and his team most of the time supported him with runs in the majority of the games. I'm really thinking this guy is a fraud. He had that 1 good year and now he is just horrible but not Jake Peavy horrible just yet.

he stayed in too long in today's game, he should have been out after 4 runs at most.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post he was running his mouth to the media this week which has never done about how the Royals rebuilding effort is a failure and the young players are not good enough. That is too much for his fragile mind. This was an easy game to predict. The guy when mentally stable is one of the best. When just the slightest focus is off the guy is average as best.

I don't know your beef with Greinke, but he's good. And don't get too worried about w-l in determing if a pitcher's good. I know last year Lincecum had 7or 8 ND/L's when holding his opponents to 3 runs or less. And Greinke got a L to TB earlier this year going 8 and giving up 1. Some people own others. You just have to figure it out.
