I don't know if this is a good buy or not. Team lost its franchise player last year, can't seem to sell a TV package, mediocre attendance.....at some point these team prices have to peak.

They still have Stanton, offense puts more butts in the seats than pitching.

This is true in general but I wonder if MLB is becoming like hockey where you really need 5-10 playoff games at premium sell out pricing to get into the black. Pitching gets you to the postseason, 7 home games at 60k/ per at $100 per plus parking and retail could boost revenues by $20mm putting your annual operation into the black. I think many of these ownership groups don't see profit till they sell. Hell even the Dodgers are shopping 10% looking for cash for their strapped cash flow situation.

waste ? This group just taps the bank for whatever they want.
The bank creates the new money as it is paid in installments.
Very few people understand how things really work.

True, but the Dodgers did waste a ton of money on aging talent when they signed their TV deal. The Marlins farm system is pretty barren so if you they want to contend they're going to have to spend. However, because of the lack of income tax, they can get players slightly cheaper.

I wouldn't spend 1.6B on a team, unless it was the Yankees, but most of these people have so much money that it isn't really an issue. They continually increase in value so even if you're taking a hit annually you'll still get a solid ROI by selling.

Yeah what a stupid purchase price, number 5 on that list. In reality no way Marlins should be worth more than Cards or Cubs are even most teams.

The Cubs would get 3-4B if they tried to sell. No way only 1.8B

    From Yahoo Sports last week:

Over the past 18 years, as Jeffrey Loria sprayed the stench of his naked greed across baseball like the skunk he is, as he destroyed the sport in one city and bilked another out of billions of dollars, as he tore asunder a championship team and micromanaged countless others and behaved like the lamest sort of wannabe George Steinbrenner possible, all blowhard, zero substance, the aggrieved could take solace in one thing and one alone: Some day, the game would rid itself of him.

If I was a billionaire I would never marry, just sugar daddy college coeds around America. As for buying the Marlins.. Jose just died and the team has problems with the fanbase as of TV and selling tickets
