Detroit Tigers Looking To Trade Verlander And Cabrera. Is This Real Life?

Apparently the Detroit Tigers have decided to cut the payroll. They are accepting offers on Verlander and Cabrera.

I am totally lost on this. I don't quite understand this?

    Does anyone understand this?

They said they will gladly listen to offers for Upton and Zimmerman as well.

This is why I'm not a die hard Detroit Tigers fan... and I never will be.

I will never be a fan of such bullsh#$.

Cabeera not a good defense player at 1st base really, can get 2 or 3 half decent players for him.

Cabbie old now and not worth the money

Verlander can't pitch like he used to

Can get a ton of talent in trades

Verlander one of three finalists for CY Young

it was still stupid to pay these kind of long term deals when the Tigers signed them

but no one is foolish enough to bail the Tigers out of thos deals NOW for sure

someone will want them. all 4 of them expendable. major salary dump if they can rid themselves of these fading ex-stars who peaked a couple of years ago. by 2019 the teams that take them will have regretted it, meanwhile the tigers will have fresh younger players performing for them at much lower salaries.

My question is... from a business standpoint... they just believe the Tigers fans will just be loyal? Front office will be satisfied with ticket sales in 2017?

Mike Ilitch told them to spend spend spend. Go long term deals. He must be satisfied with income to expense ratio then?

Ausmus should of been fired a long time ago. He's the problem.

This is just a shocker to me. Everyone loves Miggy here. How do you replace him?

Good luck in them finding any takers. More teams are becoming savvy about offering these long term contracts. More teams are preferring draft choices as to long term contracts.

much of those stats were garnered late in the season when the tigers were out of it. when it counted miggy wasn't producing this year. it can only go downhill from here for him. verlander also coming off a decent year but last 3 years showing a major decline. they can't afford to wait another year to dump these guys. they still have value and are good but now is the time to move them. they should be able to get 3 good prospects for each of these guys.

You gona pay him his salary on his decline years? If they do make a trade they won't get much in return unless a team gets desperate.

boston extremely interested in getting miggy to dh instead of encarcion to replace ortiz. verlander could be a solid #3 starter for a contender. he will get snapped up by possibly the yankees.

    Shouldn't be. At all.

I'd be more shocked if a team took their toxic long-term contracts off Detroit's hands.

red sox and yankees only viable landing place for these guys. both have money to burn and both need this type of help.

After paying Price 200 million and he pretty much bombed,I wonder if they would be that foolish to pay for either of these guys.

Yes I would pay him. Verlander no but Miguel was banged up during the year and still produced better then 85 percent of the league. I don't care what prospects you get. 1 out of 100 prospects actually amount to anything. I'll take one of the best hitters in the game ever period

Again... I'm just totally lost on this. Why was it okay (at the time) to give these players... "THE BANK" back then? But it's not okay now?

I'm not in favor of long term and sour contracts. Albert Pujols... horrible contract. Juan Gonzalez... LONG TIME AGO with the Tigers... Horrible Contract.

Miggy to me... earned his money.

But to bail out on these loyal fans???

We couldn't win with ALL STARS. How in the hell can we win with draft picks or farm players?

We don't have the coaching to do it. All of our coaches suck.

I'm very disappointed with the front office. All of a sudden... 2 years later... everyone is too old????

Love to see the outcome to this.

That's too bad. I would of brought Detroit a Championship. And I would of been the first GM/Manager. I'd coach the team. Ausmus didn't know how to fukking close a 1 run game in the 9th.

I have no clue what Ausmus said to Ilitch in that closed meeting before the 2016 season started... but it clearly shows you... Ilitch cares about revenue.... and doesn't care about bringing a championship home.

    Sell high!!!!!!

Cabrera has lost a little pop
Verlander has lost a touch from the 100mph in the 7th inning velocity.

    Cash in if you can!!!!

Sold off Prince Fielder at the exact right time, didn't they.

With the lack of pitching in free agency, Verlander can get you a nice return. Miggy is still an elite hitter and they yankess are the prime candidate with Teixeira and Arod off the books.

Detroit looks like an old softball team compared to Cleveland. Need young blood to own division for any period of time, Detroit Tigers of yesteryear are finished, time to rebuild and model and focus on beating Cleveland both on and off the field.

C`mon Paco, tell us what you really think.

Look what the Cubs did with 1/2 their roster making peanuts. Paying huge guaranteed $ to any player over thirty for 4-5 years is a recipe for disaster.

If you get Miggy off the books.... you're going to lose fan base.

If you get Verlander off the books.... fans still won't understand.

Zimmerman.... you could trade... but fans will say... why the fuk did you sign him anyways???

I'm really surprised the Detroit Free Press released this article yesterday.

This spells a disaster... especially if you wanted season ticket holders in 2017.

    What a joke this is.

I didn't even look into who's funding the New Red Wings Ice Arena??? Is it tax payers??? Ilitch running low on funds??? This is really odd?

    Makes no sense.

Hey... I agree that this is the moment you cut loose on a few players.... but you're going to lose a lot of fan base. Ilitch said SPEND SPEND SPEND 3 years ago. He wanted a championship. Now.... he changed his mind?

Business owners don't care about championships... it's a cover up. They care about income to expense ratio. They don't give a fuk about fans.

Getting rid of a player or two doesn't lose your fan base. On the other hand, not winning with high/over priced players...
