    No-hitter alert: Despaigne

For some reason, no one can figure this guy out.

Aren't the Pads the only team yet to throw one of these?

knew he was legit first time i saw him pitch against giants. he throws with many arm angles, 60's to mid-low 90's. very hard to recognize the pitches.

He's 27. Mediocre career, didn't show much in the minors. Doesn't throw particularly hard. Didn't catch the eye of many teams when he defected.

To say he's "legit" is a stretch. We'll see what happens as time passes and teams start to get a book on this guy.

numbers he posted in minors were kind of fluky. many baseball people commenting on the games he pitches even say they don't understand, cause they think his stuff is filthy as well. he has pitched on the highest stage where he is from for many years, so...

I was asking whether or not the Padres franchise had ever thrown a no-no.

3.63 FIP and 4.14 xFIP. He's been very lucky so far. That, plus he pitches in the Grand Canyon.

the more important question is how come the fckn' padres management can eye pitching talent but can't score a decent hitter to save their life.

It's the park more than anything else.

Pitchers look better than they actually are; hitters look worse than they actually are (and don't want to play there because of it).

It's the 4pm game here - I've seen all 7 innings so far, the Cuban with the God awful minor league numbers, has been lights freaking out all game.

    Very impressive.

I don't know about that, Coors field used to be a hay day for the Rocks, and their ERA is till well over 5.02 as a team, actually worse for starters. And they supposedly can hit, not so much lately. Just a thought. BOL.

Pretty soon he will call this guy lucky for having a good game. Or he will make a thread crying about how a guy didn't catch a ground ball and make the play

They can't hit lately because they've been banged up and on the road.

Coors has produced ungodly offensive numbers through the years, and not all of it was legitimate. I'm not saying SD is an offensive juggernaut and I'm also not saying their pitching staff is sub-par -- I'm just making the point that their numbers have to be adjusted for their ballpark, which is ridiculously spacious compared to its peers.

I saw the 105-year old wearing a Mets uniform at the plate.

Oh wait a minute: that was just a regular player swinging like a corpse.

How can you stand watching this offense?

Point taken. But the Rockies aren't hitting at home either, which has nothing to do with what you are referring to. Ignore me. BOL.

They're a pretty good team at home offensively if they're all healthy. Nearly their entire lineup has had injury issues this year.

    Tejada is worthless.
Swings at first pitch, mistake #1
Grounds out on a pitch 7" out of the zone

This lineup is Wright, Granderson (sort of) and nothing else. Literally. 1.5 big league hitters.

The strangest thing about this guy is the fact he strikes out nobody, and I mean none at all, and I believe his walk rate is high, yet nobody can score runs off him. He just relies on a billion ground ball outs. I've just been waiting for this guy to get blown up but it's not happening

    Exactly.

He somehow wiggles out of every bases-loaded jam he gets into.

    So far.

He's up to 110 pitches and still need 5 more outs. I bet he threw like 180 pitches in Cuba tho. Cubans can pitch forever and never get tired.

With all sorts of diiferent release points,
Pitch to Murphy just now was straight over hand over head.
