Does Pauly get into the Hall of Fame with these stats?

(Konerko, if you have to ask)

    .280 lifetime BA in 18 seassons, 2293 games, 400 + doubles, 400 + homers, .356 OBA
    http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/stats/...7/paul-konerko

Nice trade by the way, Dodgers ship Konerko to Chicago, becomes a legend there, (according to Hawk) and get back RP Jeff Shaw.

Almost as bad a trade as Pedro for Delino DeShields.

    Except you're wrong.

    Here's what actually happened:

LAD trades Konerko to CIN for Jeff Shaw

CIN trades him to CHW for Cameron who gets shuttled to SEA for Griffey - that actually might have been the worst trade in baseball history.

If you put Konerko in you have to put guys like McGriff and Canseco in their too IMO.

Buehrle another fun discussion topic if he has another few solid seasons. That one White Sox World Series definitely a major booster if either of them get in, as a Sox fan I'd love to see both, but I got my doubts about either getting in.

No. Many more deserving win't get in. As Reg already said, solid career. He got rich. No HOF

Can't stomach the prick, however he's a god in Chicago, I hear he doesn't even have to open his wallet in Chicago, people are always picking up his tab and shit, but to me, he is a difficult listen, I'm not a Mets fan, but their radio guys are good.
Thorne is great in Baltimore, Hawk's a joke

On statistics alone, I would have to say no. Pauly's numbers are solid from top to bottom and was a consistent bat in the White Sox lineup throughout his career. However, there are not any statistics that jump out in terms of being superbly stellar over other ball players, particularly one's in the HOF.

Outside of statistics, I would say maybe. The fact that he has a world series ring on his finger surely helps and I like that he is the face of a franchise. When you think White Sox, you automatically think of Pauly.

I am not sure how much of the above are taken into consideration by HOF voters, but if I were one they would stand out. First ballot HOF...no. But after years of pondering it, there might be a chance he slides in.

    My 2 cents.

    Thanks for the discussion Nash

I'm not old enough to remember Kirby Puckett, but you're still way off here.

    That's an idiotic analogy.

When you think of Kirby Puckett, you think of a guy who carried his team. A guy who was clutch in the post season. 10 time All-Star in a 12 year career, Top 3 in AL MVP voting 3 times (Finished 2nd in 1992), Batting title in 1989 hitting .339, 6 time Gold Glove winner, 6 time Silver Slugger winner.

    Puckett was Elite.
Pauly was a good player that had a long career.

    No HOFer.

Solid post. Only thing is I don't know if Konerko was ever really the face of the franchise. I would say he was backseat to Frank Thomas, Ordonez, Thome and Dye over the years!

I'll play the "IF" game too.

If Kirby can get in, why can't Mattingly?

Puckett was a unique case, dontcha think? The guy had immense respect and cultivated a great relationship with the media. Just 5' 8" and out of a housing project and wins two World Series only to have his career cut short at an early age. Not saying it's right but he won a lot of sympathy and probably the rationalization that he would have continued adding to his numbers if not for the eye problem.

Speaking of the Hall of Fame, I see Obama's going to be there Thursday ... first time a sitting president has visited the Hall.
