The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Wisconsin Badgers will meet on New
Year’s Day at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Find out who we believe has the potential to take home the Capital One Bowl title this year?
According to college football betting odds the
game is a pick and the posted total is 51.0.
Wisconsin finished the season 6-2 in the Big 10, and finished 2nd
in the Leaders Division just 1.0 game behind Ohio State. However, they finished
the regular season on a sour note by having their 6-game winning streak snapped
in their regular season finale at the hands of Penn State. The Badgers were a
huge 25.0-point favorite versus the Nittany Lions, and were victims of a 31-24
stunning loss at home. The loss possibly cost the Badgers a chance at a BCS
Badgers Body of Work
Besides the upset loss at the hands of Penn State the Badgers
other two losses came at the hands of Ohio State and Arizona State. Those
losses both came on the road, and were by 9-points combined, versus opponents
that were a combined 22-2 during the regular season. The loss at Arizona State
was a very controversial one to say the least. The referees botched the use of
the clock at the end of the game, costing the Badgers an opportunity at a makeable
field goal attempt. Wisconsin is one of the more balanced teams in the country
on both sides of the ball. They’re 18th in total offense at 486.8
yards per game, and 6th nationally in total defense allowing 294.4
yards per contest.
Knowing How to Win
South Carolina may not woe you with impressive victories, but at
the end of the day, they know how to win. The Gamecocks saw 5 of their 10-wins
this season come by 10-points or less. They had stirring come from behind
victories on the road against both Central Florida and Missouri, who were a
combined 23-3 this season. The one scar on their resume was a 23-21 loss at
Tennessee, losing on a field goal on the final play of the 4th
Gamecocks Body of Work
Besides the upset loss at Tennessee the only other blemish on the
Gamecocks record was a 41-31 defeat at Georgia in the 2nd game of
the season. South Carolina has defeated 5 current bowl teams during the regular
season. Quarterback Connor Shaw is undeniably the Gamecocks leader on offense.
The gritty senior has thrown for 2135 yards, with 21 touchdown passes, and just
1 interception. In addition he’s run for 511 yards and 5 touchdowns as well.
Sophomore running back Mike Davis has also been a force for the Gamecocks.
Davis has run 1134 yards, 11 touchdowns, and averages 5.8 yards per carry. He
also has 32 receptions for 342 yards, and averages 10.7 yards per catch.
