Comments: Here is a letter I sent to Canbet on 10/4/05. I faxed it to their headquarters as well. I have received NO RESPONSE.
-------------
10/4/2005
To Whom it may Concern,
My name is Robert XXXXX and I have been a loyal customer of Canbet since 2000. I have enlisted both my mother June, and my father Roger (#XXXX) to join your site, and have never regretted this decision. Even my brother Mike has an account. I have been a consistent user of your website since that time, and have always enjoyed your services.
I never thought that this would change. However, recent events since the "transition" from the UK to Australia have disappointed me beyond belief.
The difficulties using the new website are well known by you. The words user friendly have obviously not been a part of this development. I will not go into detail on these problems, it should suffice to simply note a few of the specifics. The calculation of teaser points, the confusing list of options in the SPORTSBOOK menu, the need to reload pages in order to make parlay bets, and the "glitches" which are oft accurring are just a few. For example, as you know, just one day before playoff baseball begins in N. America, your website did not even have lines available for the upcoming games. The only lines available were series odds.
However, the website is not the only source of my complaints. It is not even the most important area of concern. Anyone can understand that high tech websites sometimes have problems. What is completely inexcusable is the dramatic disappearance of any manner of professionalism on the part of your customer service/betting line phone representatives.
Prior to several months ago, I have always recommended your website to others. The reason why, is because your 1-800 #'s have always been answered by knowledgable, considerate, and respectful people. I had many chances to make just prior to gametime phone calls to the 8062 betting line, and your rep's never failed to respond quickly to my requests. The enjoyment I've had bantering and chit chatting with the various rep's over the years, whether english or australian before that, has been of the highest measure. I loved hearing the english language spoken with the cheerful "accent" of the UK or those from down under. But this has all changed.
With the purchase of Canbet, which coincided very closely with the beginning of NCAA Football, everything has been incredibly difficult. The phone operators sound as though they have never heard such terms as "over/under", and take an unbearable amount of time to find the games which one requests action on. This is a sign of inexperience, and an undeniable lack of knowledge, at least as far as N. American sports are concerned.
If you check my recent transactions, you will see a winning 6 team parlay in the month of September. It came on a Saturday, midway through the day of college football, and was to be a winning ticket of $5230. When I won the ticket, I wished to have access to the money, in order to make more bets that day. This is something every sportsbook I have ever dealt with simply dreams of. Winning players make unwise, and often excessively large bets. However, did did Canbet allow this ticket to be cashed, changing my Balance Available as soon as possible? Of course not! They took an unbelieveable 6 hours to process this ticket. Oh, I was allowed to make 1 $200 parlay during this awaiting period, but it was a "paper bet" which didn't even show up in my pending wagers section for a remarkable 3 more days.
But even these tribulations have been understandable to me. I have patiently waited for things to change. I haven't even mentioned the frustration which accompanied the inability of Canbet to transfer pending bets, and the amount of time that passed, to take these bets from the "old" to the "new" website. That simply goes without saying.
What is absolutely unforgivable in a sportsbook, and will result in me NEVER MAKING ANOTHER WAGER with Canbet, is a refusal to take action.
Today on 10/4/2005 I experienced something for the very first time in all of years of gambling. Please listen to the phone call made by me at 12:50 pm PST, and the conversation I had with your betting specialist.
After depositing $100 and wishing to make a 6 team parlay, the website rejected the bet as "Bets cannot be made from the same game". As has happened before, the website will sometimes turn down a wager because one wants to parlay game lines and game totals. This is completely unwarranted.
So I made a phone call, and expected to get the wager down with a phone representative. This, however proved too much to hope for. The rep let me know that the computers are having another "glitch" and he simply cannot do anything about it. I suggested him to make the calculations by hand, and take the bet down by hand. He refused. I asked to speak with Brian, or any supervisor. He refused.
I am left without a bet. That is the result. No apology, and no effort whatsoever to serve the customer.
It is very sad that I will have to take my business elsewhere. I am not a "line shopper" like many of your regular gamblers. I do not have accounts at several websites and send my action to the most favorable line. Those that do this consistently say that Canbet has some of the worst lines available each week. I have always disregarded such comments. In fact, I am an administrator and guest writer for one of the more well-known gambling forums. Are you familiar with covers.com or burythebook.com? I am a regular on both websites, and I have new information afor them after today. I will share with them that a loyal Canbet customer of 5 years will never make another bet with them.
I hope your new owners realize what it is like to see a downward turn in business. Because they will be witnessing one. I am not alone. I may not be the biggest bettor around, but I still thought that the thousands of dollars I have deposited to Canbet over the years was worth something. I know by my unusual account number that I am one of the good old customers that has been along for the ride all along the way. Here is where I get off.
Such an unfortunate thing to see a well-operated business run into the ground.
Hopefully this message isn't simply passed over, disregarded as too long to read. Rather, I hope you understand that this kind of letter would be written by none save one with real interest and care in the way Canbet is operated.
Never again,
Robert XXXXX
