New Player's Guide
Welcome to SBR Bill Dozer's Q & A page. A section created to address all questions about offshore sportsbooks.
Bill Dozer helps other players avoid scams and provides advice in dealing with offshore sportsbooks. Who is Bill Dozer?
lisanixon (Wednesday, November 23, 2005): how do you own your own sportsbook? Is it expensive? Is it legal in Newyork? SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Lisanixon,
Bookmaking within the US is 100% illegal and should not be considered as a potential hobby. Running a book, like any business, requires capital. Most operations offshore are under funded. This contributes to the high failure rate.
Best,
Bill
Greg (Tuesday, November 22, 2005): Bill.... My name is Greg Ray, I spoke with you a few times today about my Bet Royal dilemma. Just wanted to say thank you again for your advice and willingness to help[ me out. Would you believe, that by the time I got home tonight and read your post, and then logged on to my Bet Royal account that they had already debited my account for $19,000. SUpposedly $9,000 by Bank Wire and $9,999 by Fed Ex!! WE´ll see, I won´t believe it until I have it in my Bank Account, but I know if it wasn´t for your help that they would have dragged me along for a very long time. I will be sure to let you know if they do indeed give me my money, but atleast this is a great start for them. I am going to take your advice and open an account with Pinnacle, I will be sure to reference you guys at SBR. Please let me know if I can ever do anything to endorse you guys or do a testimonial for you. You do a wonderful job for a lot of people that feel they are trapped by these shady sportsbooks. Thank you again, I will let you know when I receive the funds. Greg RaySBR Bill Dozer: Thanks for the feedback Greg! You help SBR and its readers by submitting your feedback and warning others when situations like these arise. Please do keep us posted.

Davis (Wednesday, June 29, 2005): hey I have my payout problem with www.betroyal.com who didn´t follow their stated payout schedule that stated a player´s neteller payout will be processed one day after the call-in request and that customer is entitled to get two 2500 neteller payout for the maximum 5000 a week.SBR Bill Dozer:
Hi David, I am glad we were able to assist.

E.N. (Friday, June 03, 2005):
Hi Bill, I would like to ask what are the reason(s) that bookies ban arbitragers from their sites. I mean arbitragers could be seen as a helping hand some times, right?
What is the average time period that an arbitrager will remain in a bookie before being expelled?
Why do some bookies accept arbitagers while others don´t?
t.i.a.
Emmanuel SBR Bill Dozer:
Hello,
There are a few reasons why arbitragers/scalpers/traders are undesirable to recreational sportsbooks. A recreational player base brings an even-flow of somewhat predicable action throughout the sportsbook. It allows the bookmaker to move its odds based largely on the amount of money taken on each side of a bet.
When a scalper is scalping, he forces the recreational-style bookmaker to watch the market prices more than they would like. For example, if the consensus line on the Celtics is -3 and the high-limit, "professional" sportsbooks suddenly move to Celtics -3.5 (priced at -120), the recreational book´s scalpers will jump on the Celts -3 all at once before the linesman has a chance to move to the new consensus line of -3.5. The bookmaker does not want these surges in one-sided wagers but the arbitrage player gives him no choice.
Now, apply this problem to every line that is about to move and every weak number that should be moved. This is a losing proposition for the house that will eat into long term profit goals.
These players are using sharp numbers from other sportsbooks in an effort to bet into the slower sportsbook before it can change the odds. I have heard some substandard bookmakers go to the extreme of calling the whole process “insider trading”. They say that the bettor does not like or dislike a team, but since he has been given information about which way the odds will go he will make a play.
Most players resent the notion that this is cheating, and rightfully so. However, many of these same players refuse to recognize that sportsbooks come in different breeds. They are upset by the fact that the book is unwilling to take their bets. You might hear these players complain “I wish XYZ sportsbook would grow some balls” or “Sportsbook XYZ is afraid to book a bet”. Players like to think of themselves as being too good for the book but it is actually the other book that the player is using on the other side of his scalps that they do not want to compete with. There is nothing wrong with grinding and playing weak numbers; but players who do this will soon realize they are not the target customer for all sportsbooks. A qulaity book who wishes to part ways with these customers will do so without passing on any penalties to the player.
Sportsbooks that happliy accept scalpers do so because they are using the market to their advantage. They will move their lines according to what their own sharp players´ wagers. These books will steer the rest of the market. With Pinnacle and CRIS being must-haves for line shoppers, the recreational sportsbook can be sure that its scalpers are also using them. This forces them to follow these high limit sharp books to some extent. The more arbitragers a book has, the more it will have to follow the Pinnacles and the rest of the market, instead of having the luxury of managing its own gamblers while only glancing at what their neighbor is doing. Even a non-scalper who plays these weak numbers will be feared.
There isn´t an average time period that a book will allow an individual to scalp its lines. I have seen a player be shown the door after one bet, while others have scalped lines without restrictions. It depends on many factors such as when you place these bets, for how much, the promotions involved, and what other kind of action you give the book.

William (Friday, April 22, 2005):
Hello
I have a problem with betinternet.com regarding their Security.
My reasons for asking this question is that I opened a account with them recently, unfortunately I enter the wrong password several times to try and log into the site, and has you are only allow several attempts to login, I had to contact Customer Services.
After answering several security questions, I was given the password over the phone.
I then found out after logging in, it is not possible to change your password again on the site itself.
Therefore your password is no longer secret, surely this can´t be right, as you are always told never to divulge your password to anyone.
Therefore I am baffle by this procedure, and a little bit concern.
I am wondering has anybody else come across this before, I suppose it might be best to closed the account and opened the account again, making sure this time I enter the correct password.
I see that on your Ratings Guide it has a B- rating so making it a rather reputable Bookie.
Could you advise me whether I should be concern about this.
I appreciate any help you could give me.
Best Regards
William SBR Bill Dozer:
Hello William,
Much of the sportsbook software that books use show your password to account managers, clerks and anyone else using the back-end. This is normally not a large concern because there is little people can do with your account that will benefit them. If the sportsbook themselves wishes to simply take your funds they can do so without your password.
Most withdrawal methods take both parties to execute the process. All payouts should require verified information. Whether it be a credit card refund, bank wire, an e-wallet type service or a bank check, the account details should have to match exactly before your funds can be transferred out of your account.
This leaves little motivation for someone to place wagers under your name. If a wager was made by someone else, their computer´s identity and IP address should show that the wager was not made by you.
Passwords are going to be shared with those who work at the sportsbook. There is not much you can do about this. If you place phone wagers, books will commonly ask you to give your password for each wager. I do not think you should be concerned with BetInternet staff having your password.
The important thing is to stay with high grade sportsbooks who offer decent customer service. You want to believe that if a wager dispute does arise management would help you handle it.
We have had players complain that wagers were made in their accounts by someone else. In each instance the book has either offered the IP address and proof reminding the player that he did in fact make the wager, or the book was a scam operation who we concluded stole these funds. They could not offer any of the wager details.
The major purpose of a password is to show that you authorized account activity from your location. However, ALL accounting type information should be done on encrypted pages and kept private. For example, your Neteller password should not be obtainable by sportsbook employees.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or if my answer does not cover a certain scenario you had in mind.
Regards,
Bill Dozer
Anonymous (Saturday, April 02, 2005): Hi Bill, I am interested in a list of sportbooks that offer -105 or -107 lines and was wondering if you are holding such a list. I have been exploring your rating guide list and working right now with Pinnacle, Hollywood, Mansion and Easybets.
I wanted to increase my portfolio but im trying to do it safely, since I got burned by Betgateway, as they still owe me $3300. I hope its not to much to ask. Thank you very much for your invaluable service. -S.L.
SBR Bill Dozer:

Sam (Saturday, March 26, 2005): Can you tell me anything about Gambleonsports.com? I found this sportsbook at gambling.com. I am thinking of opening an account, and wanted to know first, what you thought the rating should be? Thank you!! Sam
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Sam,
The large bonuses are attractive but this sportsbook should be avoided. GambleOnSports is a sister book of Skytower and GamblersPalace. SBR rates these sites at F-. This group has a habit of putting large winners on payment plans and then claiming that the player was paid in full after only a few payments. Recently the company was offering huge bonuses but was unable to process payouts. We have added GambleOnSports to our rating guide at F-. Thank you for your question. GL, BD
erik (Wednesday, March 16, 2005): Hi, I read your site often and finds alot of good information. Just recently a spammer at a regular newsgroup I read at is promoting this site: here which promised 50% deposit bonus with little information, when I see stuff like that alarms go off in my head. However, I don´t believe ceasar´s casino anywhere on your blacklist. Do you have anymore information on this particular sportsbook/casino? thanks, erik
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Erik,
This website, which is only three months old, shows all of the warning signs of a problem sportsbook. There are dead links throughout the site and the author is using broken English (with spelling errors) which I can not understand in some instances. For some reason this "sportsbook" is not offering baseball lines.
Players need to beware of these types of turn-key serviced books. Iko-Soft is one of the many companies that will put a poor product together for any undercapitalized individual who would like to take a bettor’s deposit. Here (http://iko-soft.com/sales/technology.html) you can see the menu, where the company will dish you out your own sportsbook for pennies. Unfortunately, these days it is getting easier and easier to erect a sportsbook.
We will keep an eye on this sportsbook service provider. Thanks you for your question!

Todd (Wednesday, March 02, 2005): Bill, can you tell me where the best place is to get a sports pager? Thanks
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Todd,
If you are asking which sportsbooks have a decent sports pager as one of their promotions, the answer would be DSI. I believe if you deposit $1000 or more they will send you one. Cris may also send you a pager if you request it upon depositing. I do not have any advice for actually purchasing one.

bulldog (Saturday, February 26, 2005): inregards to the Pariaction response to the live chat problem. how would the clerk have access to a pariaction account and be able to come up with the number $7932 if the clerk was not with Pariaction. It does not make sense that someone that is not with Pariaction have access to a player's account. Even if another operation is hosted at the same place, player information should not be easily be accessable to people outside of that company. Personal information like credit card numbers aren't safe. Either Pariaction is lying about the clerk not being from their company or their security is highly questionable. Which ever it is the still deserve the downgrade. I think they are just trying to cover up and probably would have ripped off this guy if it weren't for the bad publicity. Keep up the good work
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Bulldog,
I think management was trying to say that they had outsourced some customer service duties and that this specific employee was not brought in by Pariaction intentionally. I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
Pariaction has assured SBR that they will be keeping management on hand so this does not happen again. I hope this is the case. Pariaction has always served players well and many are hoping the reemergence of the Pariaction brand will result in the same quality players have received in the past.

Brian (Saturday, February 26, 2005): Bill, do you have a list of books that comprise the SportingBet family? I had accounts at several of these books and started experiencing payout delays (via Neteller) of 3-5 weeks. Then they combined all of my SportingBet accounts into a single account for some reason. I want to make sure I avoid these books in the future, but haven't been able to find a comprehensive list. Thanks for your help!
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Brian,
You can find most of the SBT books on this page . Fell free to contact us if you continue to experience payout delays.

Davide (Wednesday, February 23, 2005): Dear Bill, I am an Italian Guy whi had some troubles with some bookies..I mean, pinnacle published twice wrong lines, I had been playing them, but pinnacle refused my wager, without saying anything. I had to call them on the phone and ask for my money. I don''t think an A rated bokie should treat its customers like this. For their mistakes I lost 60 euros. It may not be a lot of money, but it IS money however. Thanks
SBR Bill Dozer: Davide,
I agree with you that the amount is irrelevant. I also agree that it is very frustrating having a wager canceled.
Unfortunately, sportsbooks do make mistakes and the canceling of bad lines is part of bookmaking. Of course, we wouldn't expect these mistakes to happen frequently at a top tier book like Pinnacle. Hopefully these were isolated incidents. The only time we have seen Pinnacle cancel wagers is when the lines were reversed in an obvious error, as in the favorite was getting the points and the money that the dog was supposed to receive.
When a book does make one of these mistakes there is a correct way to rectify it. If a bad line is hung it should be canceled before the event has begun. The players should receive an email time-stamping this, showing that his funds were never at risk. It is not acceptable for a book to view some of the event before canceling the bet.
If the wager was placed well before the start of the match, it is not acceptable to wait for the line to move before canceling the bet. The book should show the line was an obvious error and that the player had no chance of obtaining the same value ant any other sportsbook. If it is debatebale whether the line was actually an obvious error, it should not be canceled
If a player believes his wager was unjustly cancled we would encourage him/her to contact SBR.
Best,
Bill
Rob (Wednesday, February 23, 2005): Hi Bill, Thanks for the great site. My question is really a continuation of an answer you posted regarding a Canbet question. In your response you referenced Will Hill, and Bet Fair as not catering to the US player. Prior to this I had scoured the Will Hill site and was unable to locate any reference to this. I then sent an email to the service department to which they replied that casino and poker areas were o.k. but the sportsbook area is off limits. Can you tell me what other popular sites do not allow accounts to US players?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Rob,
Ladbrokes is another bookmaker that comes to mind. In general, you can expect the books that feature soccer and other European sports as their main attractions to possibly exclude Americans. Others, like Stan James, will allow Americans to play but do not offer them any viable payment transfer methods. Some of these companies have ties to stock exchanges that prevent them from booking in the U.S. If you are shopping for mainly soccer sportbooks, the best thing to do would be to make a quick call and inquire about the book's policy.
Hopefully this will change in the near future.
Regards,
Bill
TODD (Tuesday, February 22, 2005): Bill, I just had a general question about Pinnacle Sports. Let''s just say for example, that a player wagers $1000 on a 10 team parlay and majically wins all 10 games. Does Pinnacle have the money to be able to pay the $600,000 plus payout? Is there a maximum amount of money a player can request in a certain amount of time? If a player won that bet and wanted to withdraw $600,000, would Pinnacle be able to send a check for $600,000 or would they have to break it up? Thans
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Todd,
Pinnacle will issue one check or bank wire in a 24 hour period. The max one can receive per check is $50,000. There is no maximum amount for bank wires. Players receive one free payout per month with a $25 fee for each additional payout.
Yes, Pinnacle has these funds on hand and makes these types of payouts often. They booked wagers for $50,000 and $100,000 this NFL season and had many large winners. They will process seven figure payouts with ease. Thanks for your question!
Regards,
Bill
jeremy (Monday, February 21, 2005): I was wondering, whats the maximum amount of funds thats safe to leave in a sportsbook without getting too concerned. Im speaking of the top A+ books.
SBR Bill Dozer:
Hello Jeremy,
This is a question we get quite often. SBR recommends that players keep only what they need in any one betting account. If a player bets $1000 per game, or if the house max bet is $1500, it would not be necessary to keep $50,000 in an account. Most books offer free deposits and limited free payouts. Players should take advantage of those in order to help manage their balance. The old adage, “Don't put all your eggs in one basket”, applies here.
If you are a large player who uses top sportsbooks, the main factor to consider is what percentage of your bankroll do you feel comfortable in a bookmaker’s hands? One mans’ pocket change is another man’s bankroll so this question can really only be answered by the person who owns the account.
Some people will even use multiple banks to protect their savings. This is not necessary for most of us but I wouldn’t tell Donald Trump he should do less diversifying. The more precautions, the better.
This question becomes more important when applied to players at sub-par sportsbooks. We sometimes get feedback from small bettors who wonder why they have been getting superb service at a low rated sportsbook. Unfortunately, it is not unusual for those same players to finally hit a nice score only to find themselves filing a slow-pay complaint with SBR. Most shops want happy customers and positive feedback. However, once the balance reaches a high enough figure, a scam book may decide it is cost effective to pocket the funds and take the hit to the reputation.
Lastly, and at the risk of pointing out the obvious, when a book runs into financial difficulties, the last player to get paid is usually the guy with the big balance. The book knows the small players will scream from the rooftops while the big balance holder’s most beneficial move is to keep his mouth shut and hope for the best. If he warns other players there would be less money left in the book for him. In some cases the big account holder may even sacrifice other players by telling them how great the book is so they will deposit. He is essentially tricking them into funding his withdrawal.
Thanks for your question,
Bill Dozer
kelvin (Monday, February 21, 2005): mr bill Dozer.all my sports wedsite username and password have been stolen and i have close all my account three month ago.when i ask to change my id number and they say cannot.what should i do?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Kelvin,
You may not be able to change your log on IDs but you should be able to change your password. If a book refuses to let you change your password you don't want to play there anyway. Close that account.
When creating passwords, using a unique combination of letters and numbers provides the best security. Feel free to let us know if a book will not let you alter a password.

Joe (Sunday, February 20, 2005): Hi,
. I have read the recommended list and Canbet is among one of them. Compared with other better known bookmakers like Ladbroke, Betfair and Beteuro with a A rating, they only managed a B+ based on your rating. If that's so why isn't the latter 3 in the recommended list? Are there any special reasons why Canbet is recommended?
Can I request for a review on Canbet? And are there any complaints regarding bad withdrawals, etc on the bookmakers?
Thank You
Joeyl
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Joeyl,
SBR and the recommended list cater to the American player who needs assistance in this unregulated industry. Bookmakers like Ladbrokes, William Hill and exchanges like Betfair do not offer their services to the US bettor. The BetEuro site does not offer the USD currency. However, their sister site, VIPsports does and is on our recommended list.
There have not been any complaints coming in from Canbet players. Canbet was recently purchased by IASbet who was a very strong competitor. IASbet is best known to the US players for the book, BetAustralia that closed in order to make Canbet their leading American brand.
Canbet offers reduced juice on many events and has clean betting pages. They offer a high percentage bonus and many specials. Neteller payouts are fast and free.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Gary (Friday, February 18, 2005): My interest is mostly horse racing, which I have never bet online. Can you suggest a good site?Pinnacle seems like a good choice, but am cautious first time out. Thanks,Gary
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Gary, You may find our Racebook Review helpful. Pinnacle is a great choice and a must-have. They will always look to offer the best value to the player. If you are very new and would like the comfort of phone support, you may want to start out with VIPhorses (Review) or another of the top racebooks.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Todd (Friday, February 18, 2005): Hey Bill,
I am a first time online gambler and started gambling with Champsportsbook.com. I have had a lot of difficulty getting paid. They advertise neteller withdrawls taking 24 hours but my withdrawls have been taking up to 3 weeks. Do you have any info on this company?
Thanks
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Todd
Champsportsbook is one of the many shops operated by Futurebet. Management has said that accounting is atleast 30 days behind in Neteller payouts and they are aware that they will not be able to process the payouts as advertised. There is also the possibility that Champ's investor is not paying Futurebet (playersupport). If that is the case it will become a matter of getting Futurebet to transfer your balance into their flagship book, SportsbookUSA. Please email me at Assistance@sportbookreview.com and I will begin to look into this for you. I will need your account ID and a timeline documenting your issue.
I am scheduled to speak with Futurebet management on Monday regarding other payout complaints. Best,
Bill Dozer
mark (Monday, February 14, 2005): I have a question. I have been betting offshore for over 5 years. I am interested in obtaining a line of credit to ease the transfers. I heard this a possibility. I have lines of credit in vegas and New York New York and Harrahs. I have great credit. Just wondering if you have any suggestions of how to obtain credit. Thanks
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Mark,
A line of credit is usually offered by an agent. The agent acts as an intermediary who stands for your money with the sportsbook and stands for the book's money with you. If either party were to default on monies owed the agent would pay the other party out of his pocket. I would not be able to provide any advice on obtaining an agent. Each one may be different. You can think of it as using a local bookie with the lines and website of an offshore shop.
The only time a book may offer you credit directly is when you already have a reputation of being a trustworthy credit player. Even at that point, one of the members of management would likely act as the agent. A good book would still stand for your funds if this staff member were to leave.
You should be weary of any sportsbooks who extends you credit with ease. Books like Change-a-bet (closed) extended players credit because they had little to lose. Those without the intention of paying are going to be looser with their rules and may offer credit easily. Crooked staff members from substandard sportsbooks may also offer big players credit with the intention of claiming that there was foul play if you were to win a large amount.
I would imagine it would be easier to get credit at those U.S. casinos you mentioned because you are within their jurisdiction. When a player stiffs an offshore book he would likely only lose his reputation.
Let me know if you have any other questions,
Bill Dozer
bobby (Sunday, February 13, 2005): bill, thanks for the work you are doing to help the good honest players in selecting a good sportsbook - i have had problems with sportsbooks in the past until i found your recommended list - my question is why do some sportsbooks (ie sbgglobal, heritage sports process your neteller payouts with two hours while other higher rated sportsbooks like vip sports and chris takes nearly 24 hours? also why do some higher rated sportsbooks charge a fee for payouts through neteller where sbgglobal and heritage do not? it is my understanding from neteller that merchant to member transfers do no incur a fee on the merchant's end - therefore it seems vip sports etc are making a profit from my withdrawal request? thanks again for all you do
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Bobby
CRIS and VIP only process “same day” payouts during business hours. If you were to request a payout before 11 AM you should have your funds within a few hours. I would speculate that you have requested your payout from these books after hours and it was processed the following morning. I do know that players can get on the Livechat and request that their Neteller withdrawal be rushed to them in about ten minutes. Again, this would apply to business hours.
Merchants pay a 2% fee capped at $30 to process a withdrawal. VIP offers two free payouts per week and CRIS offers free payouts on Fridays. Different sportsbook will offer different perks. For example, a VIP will cover all InstaCash deposits and offer the 20% cash signup bonus but you will be limited to two free payouts per week. If you were to choose SBG and also were an InstaCash user you would be paying that 8.9% on all incoming funds.
If you are only choosing one book, my advice would be to look at the choices from the books you deem to be safe and select one that best fits your playing style. Some players want to deposit and withdraw daily while others rather take one big payout for free per month and play at Pinnacle’s reduced juice. If you are a large bettor the loyalty program at CRIS may outweigh any transfer fees.
Thanks for your question, Bill Dozer
Cathi (Tuesday, February 08, 2005): How do i file a suit against worldwager.com they owe me $4600 and i am unable to get it.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Cathi
I can't offer you any legal advice nor am I aware of anyway to sue a Costa Rican based internet scam. If you were to sue them it would not be cost effective. I have recorded your complaint and in the unlikely event WorldWager is willing to discuss paying their debts, we will contact you. I am sorry to deliver more bad news.

Mark (Monday, February 07, 2005): Hello:
I was wondering if you could shed a little light on a question I have had since I began online wagering 4 years ago. Why are phone in wager limits signifacantly higher than internet bets?
Not that it is of direct concern to my current bankroll, I was just curious as to the discrepancy.
Thank you for the time and keep up the terrific work you do at SBR.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Mark,
Phone wagering allows the book more time to move lines and manage the amount of money they have on each side of an event. If a player was to call in to lay the max, the internet odds could be adjusted before the phone wager is even confirmed and the phone is hung up.
Phone wagering also prevents steam bets. If the odds are about to change due to the house not wanting anymore money on a team, a big-money phone wager would not be a liability. If internet wagers were allowed for the same amount, the book would risk having large bets on a number they were about to move.
Phone wagering simply allows a book to manage its action more efficiently. Thank you for the compliments. Feel free to ask a question anytime.
Regards,
Bill Dozer
Dave (Monday, February 07, 2005): Are there many books that let you sell points off the posted lines? The only ones Im aware of are Bet365 and Pinnacle. Thanks.
SBR Bill Dozer:
Hello Dave,
Many books will let you buy points but I can not think of any others that will let you sell. A betting exchange may meet your needs as well. Please let me know if you come across any others that will let you sell.
Thanks for your question.
Regards,
Bill
SBR reader, David S, has pointed out that players can also sell points at Sportingbet.com. Thanks David.
Dominic (Wednesday, February 02, 2005): I have been with Monkeybet since August, but have just discovered you guys have them rated at F+. I haven't had any problems with the site, but I have only tried to cash out once for a small amount. I seached through your acrchives but couldnt find anything, I was wondering why they recieved the F+ rating?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Dominic,
MonkeyBet is a Futurebet Sportsbook. Futurebet books are notorious slow-payers with terrible customer service. You can find more information using the SBR search on Futurebet.
Recently slow-pay complaints have been handled promptly by Futurebet management. They have told SBR they are behind in Neteller payouts and that withdrawals above small amounts will take at least two weeks to process. The many Futurebet sites promise Neteller payment in 24 hours.
The more you win the likelier you are to experience a problem. However, it does appear that these books are improving and may receive a D- rating when they eliminate these issues with Neteller.
There are many better books available with the same benefits of a Monkeybet.
Regards,
Bill
Rob (Tuesday, February 01, 2005): I know you are a "Watch Dog" for sportsbooks. But is there a "Watch Dog" for their casinos? Or do you keep an eye on the casinos? It would be way way way way to easy for these casinos to cheat. Why wouldnt they cheat ? I or the average gambler cant do anything about it anyway. -Rob
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Rob,
Casinos are harder to review because the house is not only taking your bet but they theoretically have control of the outcome. The game is played on their court. Proving unfair action would require an extremely large amount of data.
We do not audit casino games but have reviewed some audit reports. Our financial rating and review of customer service would be the same but we do not review the individual table games or casino software. We expect the top books to operate their casino rooms with the same integrity they use in their sportsbook.
You can read more about specific casino software, audits and vendors at sites like Wizardofodds.com.
Pinnacle Sports has a casino which we believe to be very fair. The Pinnacle model is to have a large amount of happy players versus bankrupting each player who comes in casuing them to vow never to return.
I would suspect that some casinos do not actually payout their listed percentage but it is also know that, for casinos who are in it for the long haul, it is beneficial to have winners and retain players using only a slight house edge.

LAP (Wednesday, January 26, 2005): Dear, Bill Iam fairly new to this sportsbetting thing, and would like to know. What do you believe is the best way to wager a small amount of money? All on a big parlay play, or on single teams. Because Ive heard, that its not good to play parlays.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello,
There was a time when the parlay and teaser was labeled as a sucker bet. Today this is not always the case. Some sportsbooks are offering odds on these wagers that can be in the players’ favor. If you happen to get your parlay at the book that also has the best lines for those specific events, you could be in good shape. Generally, the large long shot parlays are a bad investment.
My advice would be to look a multiple books in order to choose the best odds for straight wagers. Get a feel for finding the best price and spread in your favor.

Tom (Saturday, January 22, 2005): I have a couple of accounts with sportsbooks, and I used neteller to fund them both. My impression was that these books would pick up my Neteller [InstaCash] fees. Neteller charges to take money out of my bank account, i think it is 8.9%. That seems to add up, especially since I am not getting any type of refund from the sportsbook on it. My question is, are there any sportsbooks that refund this fee, at least add this to my balance. If not, what is the best way to put funds in an account, for immediate use, and not have to pay these outrageous fees every time?
Thank you.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Tom,
Most books do not pick up the fees for Neteller InstaCash which is what charges the 8.9%. VIPsports (here) Gameday (here) BetJamaica (here) are a few top books that do cover the fees when the InstaCash transaction takes place on their website versus at Neteller.com. Pinnacle and some others pay part of the fees when the transaction is made from their site. They will pay the amount it costs them for a regular Neteller deposit.
Instant checking deposit is somewhat of a new method that many books are now using and it has become extremely popular. BoDog built their book by being one of the first to utilize it. You may see it listed as eCheck or Citadel or Direct Checking but it is pretty much the same thing. They instantly credit your playing account after you authorize a debit from your checking. It is almost always free in and out.
The one complication with this checking method is that there have been rare cases where the player has won large amounts before the initial deposit has cleared and there was a deposit problem. The bank, player or book had made an error and since the funds never reached the sportsbook the winnings are void. A dishonest book could claim there was a problem with the deposit in order to avoid paying the winnings. The smartest thing to do may be to wait for verification from the sportsbook that they have received your first deposit. After that your details are obviously confirmed.
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Best,
Bill Dozer
Chris (Wednesday, January 19, 2005): Hy Bill, Maybe can you ask Pinnacle why they do not offer the option to make a bet at a different odds ( up to 1pt buy or sell ) like they do for NBA and they had for NFL, NCAAF and MLB? They are the best but some times even best make "non best" decisions. They will get more action offering this option in NCAAB too. Thanks Best regards Christian
SBR Bill Dozer: Christian,
In the future Pinnacle may offer that option for NCAAB. It has a lot to do with volume and the ability to refine a sharp line. There are many obscure college basketball games that books take a loss on simply for offering them but they do so to keep their clients happy while keeping a wide selection. There are also many large spreads in NCAAB and as you may have noticed, Pinnacle did not allow players to buy and sell off the large spreads in the other sports you mentioned.

Bill Dozer
William (Monday, January 17, 2005): Not sure if you receivied my email but I am contacting you about linewiz. I wanted to let you know for what its worth they are a pretty good sportsbook. I've had a account there a few mounths and they have been very good on paying and customer service. I enjoy playing there. They make you fell like a customer and they are very personable unlike some of the big books I have played at in the past like BetOnSports, BetCris. Those books seems like they dont really care about there customers much. They are great for paying and keeping ther lines tight but not very personable. I recomend my freinds to linewiz when they are looking for a book to play with because at least I know they will pay and they will treat them with some class. I just wanted to drop an email telling you what I know about this new book. They are a pretty good and honorable book. I will keep ya posted if any thing new pops up.
Thankz again
Will
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Will,
Linewiz received a D rating because they are a brand new Costa Rican sportsbook with no references or any type of relationship with any other bookmaking operation. They admit to being very new in the post-up business which is very different than taking phone bets in New York. They must prove that they can function as a profitable business and manage new overhead and a brand new type of client. The reason they received a D instead of D- was due to the fact that they are starting off very conservative. They tell SBR that a player’s initial betting limits will start at $300 per wager. As you may know, the bonus has a 5x roll-over. They claim to realize that the industry is very competitive with a high failure rate and seem to be content to move slowly.
However, their inexperience is illustrated by their desire to invest in advertisements on sharp player websites like DonBest.com and TheRx.com. They will likely retain very few players with a $300 max bet once the 20% bonus has been rolled over. We recently resolved the first Linewiz player dispute as well. They had voided a pending future wager when deciding they no longer want to service the player. The bet has been reinstated.
They mentioned that they would possibly increase betting limits for valued players. It would appear that your limits have been increased. Would you be able to share where you found this sportsbook?
We would advise players to use caution with any new sportsbook.
Thanks,
Bill Dozer
G. (Monday, January 17, 2005): Hi Bill,
After scanning all B and better books on your rating guide. Guardian Guarantee B- website really caught my attention.
Their offers:
· 10% ANNUAL interest on your daily balance paid monthly. (Minimum average daily balance of $1,000.)
· 10% BONUS when you refer a friend. (10% of your friend’s initial deposit)
· 10% CASH BACK Twice a year for the previous six months, receive a bonus into your betting account equal to 10% of your cash losses. You must have played at least 20 of the 26 weeks during the six month period to qualify. Cash back money is treated as promotional funds and must be bet through five times before it can be withdrawn in cash.
Isn't this too good to be true? .. Just deposit $1,000 and you get to enjoy all the benefits above. So what if everybody just deposit $10,000 do nothing just to get annual interest paid monthly?
Regards,
G.H.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello,
If everyone deposited just to earn the 10% return Guardian would likely not be able to offer it. You could compare it to a mail-in rebate where a product is offered for free. Not all the customers will use the rebate which may equate to a profitable investment by the company. Motivating gamblers to keep chips at the table will prompt more players to roll the dice. The idea is to keep the players for the long term.
The 10% rebate on losses is nice. However players should note that it only applies to the amount you lose, if you lose, overall. If you won $50 and lost $55 your 10% rebate would apply to $5.00. Any signup bonuses would have already been given back to the house and does not count as losses.
The 10% sign up bonus is slightly below the industry standard but when you figure in the above offers, it is very competitive.
Guardian is part of the Tradewinds Group. They do a nice job offering something for all of the different types of players while making their main goal to keep the player playing with them. For example, their best bonuses come with a 60-90 day hold. They offer the aforementioned rebate and balance interest instead of the huge front end bonuses we commonly see. They have a business model focused on steady growth and player retention. This is a rarity in a time when many books are only concerned with how many customer signups they receive per day while ignoring what they gave up to get those players.
Guardian was recently upgraded from C+ to B- and may see further upgrades after football season. There have been some concerns about ownership in the past but Tradewinds has not faltered in recent years.
Best of luck,
Bill Dozer
Monki (Friday, December 31, 2004): Re: Worldbet Hi I've been using Worldbet for about 2 years, made a bank wire withdraw from of 600USD back in Feb and it went pretty smoothly, got the monely in less than a week. However on Dec 1 I requested a withdraw of 3000USD and it still has not been placed. During the past 2 weeks I've sent 5 emails to their admin, billing, and info department but didn't get a single word in response. Wondering if you received any similar complaints recently and is there anything that I can do at this moment other than wait? Thanks a lot !
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Monki,
I have just been informed that you have been paid in full. Please feel free to contact us anytime at assistance@sportbookreview.com. Best,

Milosz (Monday, December 27, 2004): Hello Mr Dozer, It's good to see that my favourite sportsbook -Gamebookers was finally upgraded from D to C+ on your SBR rating guide. :) Many Europeans play with them. It's an even better book in my opinion equal to Betandwin and Unibet who have B notes. - they have huge offer on all sports (many live bets, double chance on each football match) - great odds on football - they let players win, don't cut the limits quickly when players start to win like Betandwin do - they have p2p (bets exchange-players can be bookmakers) so they can also get better odds - they offer free sms results of bets placed with the stake 5eur or higher - their website is for me the best looking one and the easiest to navigate - payouts are quick, never had any problems(they offer both Neteller and Moneybookers for deposits and withdrawals, not many bookies do that) - they offer silver/golden membership programme(even 1% cashback on each bet placed of 5eur or higher, reduced withdrawal fees and p2p commision) I rate Gamebookers even higher than SBR, my note is "B" But I'm very happy that they were upgraded and finally valued. Greetings, Milosz
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Milosz
Thanks for your queston. ;)
john (Saturday, December 11, 2004): ESB...Do they pay??
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello John,
ESB is the biggest scam sportsbook currently operating. This is an F- book that should be avoided at all costs.
Thanks for your question,
Bill
KB (Wednesday, December 08, 2004): Bill, Do you know of any credible sportsbooks that accept deposit using an American Express card?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Kevin,
I am not aware of any books who accept AE directly. I did check with a couple of the larger books who do well with credit card processing and they do not offer AE deposits. You may be able to use a third party processor with your card. If you do find any that will process it, I would be interested to know. American Express usually has stringent rules and is targeted to the large, yet conservative, user.

Bill
Kevin (Tuesday, December 07, 2004): Betcnn, sister book to Changeabet, is back on-line... now as Buck Sports Sportsbook. Now that this site is up will this help in collecting money still owed from Changeabet?
SBR Bill Dozer: Kevin,
I have been looking into the affiliation between BuckSports and Changeabet but what I have found says that they are different sportsbook that utilized the same wagering center. BuckSports is currently sharing a Neteller account with 4Sportspicks.com who has also moved into that wagering center. Changeabet used a different Neteller account which it shared with CNN, and Betchanger. I believe these books only shared wagering lines and their managers were in different offices. BuckSports is physically located in that wagering office while Changeabet’s office was up the street. The line service providers own BuckSports and BetonStars.
Best,
Bill Dozer
Rob (Monday, December 06, 2004): I have not received a $600 Payout from ESB/Telebet. Is there anything that can be done?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Rob,
Unfortunately there is little that can be done. These crooks have been stiffing players for years and it only seems to be getting worse. We are currently exploring the small possibility that local law enforcement may be able to assist in some way.
You may submit your account ID and balance information to assistance@sportbookreview.com. We will add you to our list of players owed but we have no reason for you to be optimistic. You will most likely never see these funds. Best
Bill
Kevin (Tuesday, November 30, 2004): You can add my name to the list of people that Change A bet owes... about $750USD. Any idea on how to try and contact these people to try and get some money out of them... I don't know a phone number and website is down? Thank you
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Kevin,
The company they use as their wagering department believes they will be closing with player funds. I will update you with any new information but Changeabet owes players more than $100,000. The situation looks bleak.
Good Luck,
Bill
Tony (Tuesday, November 23, 2004): I'm a member at many forums and have been on the sport investing side of things for about 7 years. Overall I cannot complain as I have made this into a a nice little part time cash income. Though I did get hammered this week in the NFL on them HD's. Anyways, I am currently funded at IIS, Skybook, Pinnacle, Bowmans, Guardian, TradebetX, and Bet Jamaica. I am not much for bonuses, and am looking at 2 Books for their reduced juice. WorldSportCenter and Bestline Sports. I see you have Bestline rated a C and am thinking of throwing 2 dimes in their because of their 108 vig and slow lne movement. Can I get your thoughts please? Im also very intrigued by the -105 at WorldSportCenter I see you do not have them rated as of yet. Does it mean they are still in question. I see the RX sponsors them and have heard many positive things about them over there. I was looking to throw 5 Dimes in their and just wanted your thoughts......Thanks again, Tony
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello, World Sports Center is a new book. We do not recommend using a new sportsbook. They do have the obvious benefit of -105 which may warrant taking on additional risk for some players. The setup does offer an optimal situation for players to try them out and while limiting their exposure. They offer free Neteller payouts daily and their bonus is on net losses. This means you could easily manage your balance each day and would never have to keep more than a few units in the book. If you anticipate playing more than a few units in any certain day you could always move funds back to them. They do seem to be giving away quite a bit and I am not sure how this book will fare at -105, while eating all Neteller costs, if the football season continues as it did this weekend. From my experience, and some player feedback, their CS is average. We will likely officially evaluate and rate them soon.
Bestline is rated at C+ and I believe that is an accurate rating. They have recently moved into the old BetPanam office and seem to be settling in nicely. If you take them up on the bonus you agree to a 21 day hold commitment. The bonus is going to bring your juice down to -103 through the life of the roll-over.
SBR advises players to stay with B+ or higher graded books. This especially applies when the books take hits like they did this past weekend. Hollywood107 is another book that may meet your needs. They offer the -107 line set which applies to halves and quarter lines. This year they have continued to offer opinionated lines on many events.
Let me know if you have any other questions or comments.
Best of Luck,
Bill
JC (Monday, November 22, 2004): Hi Bill- Can you give any updates on the legal situation in the U.S. with online sports betting? Should "small time" players be concerned with depositing and withdrawing money with neteller? Thanks.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello JC,
I don't think US policies should be a major concern for Neteller users. Neteller is a publicly traded company that aims to service customers world-wide. It is unlikely they would risk hurting their name by cheating U.S. customers. However, I always recommend players only keep what they need in any one place.
There aren't any major developments in regards to defining US gambling laws. It won't be long before there is another bill waiting to be voted on but players are used to this now. The biggest risk to players is still scam sportsbooks. Thank you for your question.

Bill
chris (Monday, November 22, 2004): hey bill i am new to offshore gambling. do i have to report my earning at the end of the year with my taxes. and what is a better method of payment? wire transfer to my checking account or a check sent to my house. what do you think of bodog.com thanks chris from the usa
SBR Bill Dozer: Hi Chris,
I am a big fan of Bodog and use them for many of my smaller plays. Their bonus structure essentially makes them a reduced juice sportsbook. A bonus is offered on every deposit therefore increasing the winnings of each wager. Bodog serves players best when they use the Instant Bank transfer method. It is fast, free and earns the best bonus.
The best method of withdrawing may depend on the book. There are some average quality books that can mess up bank wire payouts yet are flawless executing Neteller withdrawals. A top quality book will handle both methods with ease.
U.S. citizens are required to pay taxes on all sources of income. I have heard players say that they risk not claiming their winnings. I don't recommend players gamble with Uncle Sam. If you are fortunate enough to make a profit for the year you should show those winnings. Best, Bill
Steffen (Tuesday, November 16, 2004): Hello Bill, let me first say how much I appreciate your work on SBR. For me it has been a valuable source of information for many years. My question: do you have any opinion/information on Stanford Wongs www.sharpsportsbetting.com? I am pondering the idea of joining his college basketball posting forum for which he charges about 300$ for the entire season. I bet college basketball seriously and thought it might be a helpful source of information. I normally don't use any handicapping assistance and I am very skeptically when it comes to touts. However I know Wong from his work in Blackjack and believe he is an honorable character. What do you think? Do you have any experience with his website and his posting forums? Thanks in advance for your answer.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Steffen,
My advice would be to join a free forum. There are some very active boards out there that have bettors from all different parts of the world. I would guess that the same information is available for free. However, I do not have any experience with this site.
Ultimately, it probably depends on why you are joining. If you are buying this for entertainment purposes, and will use it all season, $300 may not be a lot of money for you. If you have $1000 and are going to spend $300 of your bankroll as an investment, it likely is not a wise choice. I have yet to see a tout that wins at a high enough percentage,if at all, to cover his fee.
Lastly, much would depend on what you are getting. Have you heard of any crucial or inside information come out of this forum that could potentially make you back the $300 plus? Does the forum offer exclusive line movement alerts where some of the viewers will obtain great value? I really do not know what you are getting. You should ask yourself "What do I expect to get for $300?", but I do not think you should buy into him based on his name. Touts are marketing themselves as a brand. What is in a name?
Best of Luck.
Bill
Dan (Monday, November 15, 2004): Hi, I've gone through your reviews and asked the sites, but which site do you suggest is the best for this option? I was interested in CRIS, but they said their maximum is only $1,000 possible profit per game (I thought they would be much higher). The cap doesn't matter much to me; whether it is 10 or 15 points, but I'm looking for a reputable book that will take higher amounts per point ($500 to $1000, so max. profit would be 5k to 10k). Also, looking for a book that allows this for both basketball and football (only one seems to be CRIS). WSEX's maximum is only $1500 and only for pro football. I would be only using this book for this option; for everything else, I'm sticking with Pinnacle. Thanks, Dan
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Dan,
Olympic will let you make up to $5,000 profit on Actions. How many points you can get will depend on what you are laying. It is possible you may be able to get down on more if you call early. If you are calling right before game time they will not have as easy of a time managing the action and will have to limit you to the $5,000. You can read Olympics review here.

Bill Dozer
A.D. (Sunday, November 14, 2004): Hi,
For the following two sportsbooks I couldn't find a rating: www.yabet.com and www.stanjames.com How would you rate these sportbooks? Can I trust them?
Sincerely yours
A.D
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Alexander,
Yabet is essentially another portal into Cris. Cris took over Yabet and merged it with their system. My Cris account ID will log me into my account through Yabet.com. You can read about A+ rated Cris here.
We have not completed an official review of StanJames but I have heard positive feedback from their clients. SBR does not get as much feedback because, outside of bank wires, the book does not have any viable transfer methods for Americans. They do plan on adding Neteller in the coming months so we expect to hear a lot more from them in the near future.
If you bet on NBA basketball you are better off looking elsewhere. This may change when they offer Neteller but, they currently charge 1.83 or -120 on NBA hoops. I would speculate that if they could get more American action, which Neteller would facilitate, they may offer the standard -110 price.
Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.
Good Luck,
Bill Dozer
J (Saturday, November 13, 2004): Hi Bill I thought you gave some really good responses to the other people's questions and I had one I would like to ask you. I have been playing the horses for many years and Pinnacle's 7% rebate for horses sounded great to me. What I'm wondering is I'm probably good enough to win a lot since thier limits are really high. My concern is that as soon as they see that I can win money doing this that I will either be banned or my limits will be cut to a level that will make it worthless to play with them and I will be just wasting my time and be better off just sticking to wagering into track pools. Also I would not be doing anything crooked at all just picking profitable horses. Do you think this is likely to happen if I started winning any serious amount of money? Thanks in advance JJ
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello JJ,
Pinnacle's limits are configured on an individual player basis. How much they will take on an event can very slightly depending on the time of day and the player.
Pinnacle is known for their high limits. I highly doubt that your limits would be lowered to the point where there would be no value in playing there.
I can tell you that we have never received any feedback from a player complaining of lowered limits.
Their racebook is fairly new so I can not say if the current odds will be offered forever but usually when Pinnacle makes a decision it is well thought out. They do not like to take steps back. I can also say that many players win in the sportsbook over the long haul and are always welcomed back. Pinnacle caters to sharp players in all events.
Thanks for your questions!
Bill
Eric (Friday, November 12, 2004): Hello Bill, i would like to start a sportsbook online or rent a sportsbook site which offers live lines from Don Best etc... and a call center, would appreciate any help and information.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Eric,
There are many sportsbooks or call centers offering turn-key services. I would not recommend any of these to players.
The safest investment for someone offshore looking to start a book would be to invest in a sister site of an already established sportsbook. The book should vouch for your funds with players and will require you to keep an appropriate amount of funds available. This would require a large financial investment.
Your chances of starting a post-up sportsbook from scratch and beng successful are very small; and that is without considering that you are new in the business. You will need to either hook up with an experienced manager who can make sure you are operating safely or hook up with an already established sportsbook who will give you your own site and a glorified affiliate program.
Best,
Bill
Erik (Tuesday, November 09, 2004): when will you guys review BCN Sports? they have a great bonus for the start of NBA season. Want to give them a shot but would like to see what you have to say first. Might be too good to be true.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Erik
We initially rated BetCurnet at C. They received a downgrade to C- when their General Manager quit due to a difference of opinion with ownership.
BCN has some nice offers for the entertainment gambler and may become an established sportsbook. At present, SBR questions their current marketing strategy and their ability to focus in on the type of players they desire.
We caution all players to be weary of a new sportsbook that has yet to complete a football season.
Thanks for your question!
Bill Dozer
Eric (Tuesday, November 09, 2004): I used betus.com before I found your website. You have a very low rating on them and mostly I would agree. While I did receive my payout through neteller they are very shady with bonuses and they failed to tell me they were going to clip me for 4% on the payout and that is after I paid neteller 8.9% that betus would not cover. No where on the website do they mention the payout fee. Is that common? Does neteller charge them? Is there a better way for payouts or should I consider myself lucky to get paid at all. I did do well on their website. Plus, I caught them on several occassions leaving bets open to long (After game started)or badly missing the prop bets. All of which I took advantage of and won a fair amount of money, which they honored. Thanks for your help.
SBR Bill Dozer: Erik
Fees should be listed on all gaming sites. If they are not then it is the player's responsibility to ask what they are. Most books will offer a free payout per month but this is not always the case. My advice would be to find out what the general fee structure is in order to see if your fees were applicable.
If BetUs honored all their bad lines, and your past-posted wagers, you may just want to consider yourself fortunate and move on. When a player does that with a lower tier sportsbook they may find themselves wagering to win nothing. Some books have been known to cry foul only after the event has been decided in the player’s favor.
BetUs players are in a better position than they were in the past. This book has a new manager who is trying to clean up some of BetUs' problems. In the last couple months he has resolved some of SBR's slow-pay complaints and is looking into payout issues from years prior. It remains to be seen how much decision-making power he has with these larger balances. We will be following the progress of these old cases closely and are now optimistic.
Best,
Bill
EDDIE (Tuesday, November 09, 2004): BILL WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT SIGNING AN AUTHORIZATION FORM FOR MY CREDIT CARD WHEN GCS OWES ME 10X THE AMOUNT I OWE THEM AND THEY WONT PAY ME UNTIL I SIGN
SBR Bill Dozer: Eddie,
You just have to sign it. Credit card fraud is out of control today and filling out that form is becoming standard procedure. This is a complicated question and there are multiple reasons why the books need these signed.
One reason is if a player was to get his winnings via FedEx and then he decides the credit card refund was taking too long, he may do a chargeback. You might think that it would be a wash and you would be even but...a high charge back rate can be devastating to a vendor. It is kind of like car insurance; too many accidents and you will be biking it.
Providing these documents on the way out is also to cut down on paying those who are not who they say they are. Credit card companies are liable for stolen cards but no one is going to be able to cover a $2,000 WU that went out to someone who used a stolen card. The procedure is not player friendly but then again, neither are the USA's credit cards. Good Luck,
Bill
Cole (Tuesday, November 09, 2004): Bill, what have you heard about monkeybet.com. I like their payout and their e-check option, but I can't find many people who've heard of it.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Cole,
MonkeyBet is a FutureBet Sportsbook. FutureBet books are notorious slow-payers with terrible customer service. You can find more information using the SBR search on "Futurebet".
Many sportsbooks offer free e-check type transfer options. Email me at Assistance@sportbookreview.com if you have any other questions about e-checks or sportsbooks that may offer that option. There has actually been quite a few topics in this sections of the site about instant checking. Thanks for your question!

Bill
michael (Friday, November 05, 2004): What is your opinion of Youwager.com of the First Fidelity group?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Michael,
We rate First Fidelity at B. Their sister sportsbooks, which they financially back, are PayoffsPlus (SBR rating C) and IwagerSports (SBR rating C+).
First Fidelity is a solid sportsbook. Many players have an enjoyable experience with them. We do advise players to be ready for sales calls. They do telephone marketing and have no problem calling you to find out when you may re-deposit.
This group is also known for listing confusing bonus programs. They often try to attract players by combining all the possible bonuses to look like one. For example, a 40% bonus may actually be advertising a 20% and a potential 20% reload bonus.
Outside of their aggressive marketing this is a pretty good sportsbook. They have adequate customer service and use ASI software. The bonuse value is competitive once you decipher what you are getting.
If you have any other questions about them feel free to contact us.
Regards, Bill
Aaron (Friday, November 05, 2004): My favorite type of bet is by far the player prop bet. I like to make player prop parlays but lately I havn't been able to find a sportsbook in which this type of bet is allowed. The sites I researched allow player props in the straight bet format only. So my question is: Are there any quality sportsbooks listed in the SBR that offer player prop parlays?
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Aaron Legg
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Aaron,
Most books will not let you parlay proposition wagers because they are often considered connected bets. For example, many books will not let you parlay the total with the spread in the same events because there is a correlation in the outcome. If you were trying to parlay a prop bet for season win totals, there would be multiple teams you could make your choice on based on one league outcome scenario. By playing Team A to win 50 games and team B to lose 50 in a parlay you are indirectly playing the same event because Team A plays Team B. Another example would be parlaying the prop wagers in a game: Shaq O’Neal’s blocked shots O/U 4 with Points by Michael Jordan O/U 30. If you believed Shaq would be intimidating shooters then you would be indirectly making a bet on the same event’s scenario.
Olympic, Pinnacle, 5dimes and Bodog all have some interesting proposition bet offers but will not let you parlay them. If parlaying is your priority BetonGames offers high payout odds.
Good Luck,

Chill (Thursday, November 04, 2004): Hello,
I don't understand how you gave Bowmans.com an A-. I mean sure they have a good software and the lines are good and they are advertised on major radio stations. But what about the most important aspect: cashing out? People bet in anticipation to win. Bowmans.com take your money right away without asking squad, but when comes time to cash out, you have to send them a credit card "Registration Form", a scan/fax of your credit card, driver's liscence and utility bill for "identity verification". I mean come on! Doesn't take a fool to figure that one out. They take your money regardless of who's credit card is being used but when times comes to cash out, they make you go through such process and if the process is not followed, they wind up keeping your money. How is THAT more secure?
So, because their lines are so much better and easy to use than most sportsbooks, I faxed them the three documents (though, what the heck). When I called to confirm, they asked me to re-fax because it wasn't "clear enough". I had to re-fax them the documents 3 times. Then my picture wasn't clear enough. I was like What The - ? They don't even know what I look like, what would they compair the picture to?
I spoke to a customer service representative and he didn't even bother to listen to what I had to say, he kept on rudely interupting me so I asked to speak to the supervisor. Same thing, only that she was harsh and rude "If you don't agreee with our policy, don't play with us"... "I am the company I can do whatever I want". She kept on interupting me and ended with "I have to end this conversation because you are playing games with me". When I asked what if someone used a stolen card to deposit funds, she had the guts to tell me there is nothing they can do about other people's "bad intention", yet they make you go through all the horror "security procedure" when times comes to cash out.
In conclusion, I am supposed to send them a fax of my credit card statement with the CC number and my address, and that should be it. But I am having doubts now... what if I win and they don't pay? All excuses are valide when it can be put on the company's "policy" and "rules and regulations".
I would grade them as follows:
Software and site: A
Lines: A-
Ease and availability of games: B
Customer Service: D-
PayOut: D+ (projectile)
I am not yet imposing a risk of a scam. But the customer service is extremely rude and insulting and I think the cashout process is only there to make it tougher to cashout (why not the same for deposits?). Keep in ming that anyone can build a cleaver, pretty looking website with easy lines without a dime in the bank, take people's money and run away, though I am not yet imposing that, cahouts should consist of 90% of the overall grading.
I'd like to thank you and the entire SportsBook Review site for making this possible and draw people away from traps. Please reply with your expert opinions.
~Peace
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello,
I would like to thank you for your feedback and review. Player opinion is very valuable to SBR.
What Bowmans is asking of you is becoming standard procedure. This form and identification verification is to prevent people from stealing from the sportsbooks. It has become such a problem that many books have stopped accepting cards because of it. This leaves the scam players with fewer options. As they focus on books still allowing credit card deposits it makes it harder for legitimate players to use this method. These preventative measures are indeed necessary.
Credit card users have the ability to do charge backs for up to six months after a purchase. This means players who lose can take back their losses and players who win can win twice (if the withdrawal is not refunded for the deposit amount back to the card which many cards no longer allow).
I can tell you that Bowmans has a reputation of paying very fast and providing top notch customer service. If you used one of the online transfer methods, such as Neteller, you would likely have your funds in minutes.
If you were mistreated by the clerk we can hope that this was an isolated incident. I can not recall SBR ever receiving a CS complaint from a Bowmans player before. Maybe this will ease your mind some.
My advice would be to try out Neteller or some of the other online methods. I can think of only one major sportsbook that does not require you to fax over extensive information upon taking a credit card payout. It will only continue to get harder for credit the card user.
Thanks again,
Bill Dozer
Toni (Thursday, November 04, 2004): Hi Bill, my name is Toni and I write from Croatia, Europe. I thing your site is great thing for players! I have 2 questions for you: 1.) I have accounts at two sportsbook that are rated D at your site. Pointbet and Sportsinteraction. I don't have much money, about 500Usd at each and is there any need to be worried for my money? Is rating D very bad or just be cautious? 2.) Is there any other book except bet365 that allows you no only to buy but also to SELL up to 7 points? Regards from Croatia. P.S. I hope you will soon start to review european bookies.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello,
I would be very careful about betting with the sub-par books that cater to the American market. Books like SIA have a habit of crying foul or freezing accounts from foreign players who exploit their numbers. Low rated sportsbooks geared toward the American market may find reason to label you fraudulent. The sportsbooks are aware that their reputation will not be largely affected if they mistreat you. My advice would be to stick with top tier sportsbooks. In your situation, I would recommend B rated shops or higher.
PointBet is a book that has not produced a player complaint in quite some time. It is possible that they will be re-evaluated in the near future. Pointbet does all of their banking out of Indonesia which is a concern. They claim to operate out of the British Islands and admit it is illegal to operate from Indonesia. I will be speaking with them soon about their current operating status. They seem to try to cover all of the bases in the other areas of the business which is why their location choice is perplexing.
Regards, Bill Dozer
James (Saturday, October 30, 2004): Dear Bill, I would like to hear your opinion on the use of e-checks with some of these offshore books. Lately, Sportsbetting.com has made using an e-check very easy. You simply enter your checking account info to register your account. When you want to bet, you enter how much you want deducted from your checking account, and lickity split, its in your betting account. Payouts are also put into your checking account within days. I've had very good expirience with this method so far, and Sportsbetting.com has never given me any trouble and always paid me. My question is, is it safe to give these offshore books your checking account info? Have you heard any complaints about checking accounts being suddenly drained of funds?
SBR Bill Dozer:
James,
Thanks for your feedback on Sportsbetting.com. I have also heard that they utilize that direct checking method for their employees. =)
The industry hasn’t seen anything like the electronic check since Paypal and its direct transfer. Bodog’s in-house direct checking was partly responsible for its rise to its current level. As Bodog showed exponential growth promoting their innovative method, others were struggling to take credit cards. The rest of the industry soon followed suit and today most sportsbooks offer this deposit method. There is hope that with this method becoming more popular it will force Neteller to lower its cost to vendors and thereby letting the books pass the savings on to players.
I don’t think that this deposit method is more dangerous than any other. The banks are set up to make people feel secure. Many banks do not hold customers responsible for unauthorized purchases. Debit cards, checking and credit-check cards all have safe-guards in place to make sure your funds can not simply disappear.
When a credit card is used the receipt usually has the account number edited out. Not many people see that number unless they are holding your card. With electronic checking, all that is needed are the numbers on the face of the check and possibly the bank's address. As your checks are passed around thousands of people are exposed to the information needed to charge you. My point is that if a sportsbook or anyone online, or offline, could easily write checks from your checking and get away with it, it would be an epidemic.
My bank holds its users responsible for only the first $50. My advice for those concerned would be to check with your individual bank.
We have never heard of a checking account being emptied. There have been cases of duplicate charges but even that seems to occur less than it does with credit cards. To be sure, all players should ask their bank about any risks with electronic checking.
Thanks for your question, Bill
Jay (Thursday, October 28, 2004): Bill, I'm pretty new to the game. If you could give me your opinion on www.Sportsbook.com, that would be much appreciated. I've only been around for 3 months or so, but everything has seemed legit. I just started researching other books today, and was wondering if you had any advice or particular info. on Sportsbook.com. Thanks!
SBR Bill Dozer:
Jay,
In many ways Sportsbook.com is a nice book for the new player. The software is somewhat outdated but very easy to use. The layout is as simple as it get and the overall look of the site is easy on the eyes.
After that it can get tricky. Customer service clerks can do little and are only only expected to take a message when an important account issue arises. Some of the financial transfer methods are smooth while a bank wire request can delay a payout six months. Sometimes accounts are audited upon the withdrawal request and this can also delay a payout for over a month.
When you consider how much volume they do one may say that these incidents are not frequent but Sportsbook.com can not deny that SBR gets complaints from legitimate players who are owed for months.
My advice would be to stick with at least a B- rated sportsbook. A new player should feel confident that he will be taken care of if he has a problem. I would also advice you to search the SBR site and read player feedback on their parent company SportingbetUSA.
Regards,
Bill
jamesaot (Wednesday, October 27, 2004): I was just about to post up with olyimpic, and then I heard they were having some legal problems. Is this something to be concerned with?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello James,
Olympic is discussing a licensing issue in court. The validity of their current license was challenged by the Jamaican government. This has had no effect on how they operate or their clients. Olympic is fine and it is business as usual.
As a well run business, Olympic has covered all the bases when it comes to legal issues and protecting their finances. Their assets are diversified and they make sure that they are never overly dependant on any one part of the company. If they needed to, Olympic could likely move their operation overnight and make a seamless transition.
Thanks for your question,
Bill
marty (Friday, October 08, 2004): Is the Sportbook.com that is advetised on the OSGA the same as the Sportbook.com that you have on your run list
SBR Bill Dozer:
Hello Marty,
Yes, the link on OSGA leads to the same sportsbook as the one we list at D-. OSGA does recommend some sportsbooks that SBR does not belive to be reputable.
Thanks, Bill
Paul (Friday, October 08, 2004): Hi Bill Im looking for a solid bookmaker that offers baseball props, can you recommend anyone please? Im only a small player.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Paul, Olympic, BoDog, 5dimes, bet365 and Pinnacle have been player favorite for proposition wagers. Any of those could offer a fun experience for a small player. My advice would be to check those out before you deposit. The variety will differ from one event or season to the next. You need to be cautious when buying into these types of wagers. Many of the books that offer props on everything over charge. They can make you feel like a sucker buying into what is 20% juice! The house knows that you won't be able to find the same unique wager elsewhere. Good Luck, Bill
Omid (Wednesday, October 06, 2004): Hi Bill I deposited some money in usasportsbook.com and discovered your website now. I was wondering if they are reputable and what the situation is with them. Thanks please respond
SBR Bill Dozer:
Hello Omid,
USAsportsbook is a futurebet sportsbook. They have a long history of slow-paying their players to the point where players have given up. SBR has recently received a few complaints from players with these sites. After we inquired on their behalf payment was made in full.
The customer service is very poor as well.
Best,
Bill
Henri (Tuesday, September 28, 2004): Hi Bill ! Nice work. I was searching WWTS infos on the web, and i felt on those pages... The Australian Stock Exchange of BetCorp which is the owner of WWTS (search Betcorb) They are changing managers often and have bad time on the stock exchange. But Still have a A rating.... i feel suspicious... Thanx for reply.
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Henri,
We have watched WWTS very closely, They have showed no signs of faultering and the overall feedback from WWTS players has remained extremely positive.
WWTS has changed management but they have also promoted from within. Those in charge are familiar with the direction of the company and what needs to be done in order to experience continued growth.
The thing we must remember about stock prices is that the dipping and rising of the stock chart is not illustrating the available bankroll in which to pay players. However, it is an accurate way to gauge the overall recent progress of Betcorp as a corporation. A diving stock price would not erase the many years of large profits and aqcuired assets.
SBR does follow the available stock prices and other company information. We do not believe this current stock price negates WWTS as an elite and and safe sportsbook.
Andrew (Monday, September 27, 2004): Bill, if someone was to open a new sportsbook up offshore, how much money at the very minium would they need to open a legitimate, good heathly book for both players and ownership?
SBR Bill Dozer: Andrew, That amount would have to be based on how many players the book aims to service. There is a not set figure. The book obviously needs money allocated for its overhead including marketing, licenses, fees, human resources and technical costs. Once the book has those figures it should have an idea of how many players it hopes to acquire and what the average deposit would be. There should be a percentage of player's funds on hand. Some successful veteran bookmakers have suggested 300% of potential player funds is the minimum. No matter how much the book starts with they should have a redline figure of around 100%. Once they go below below this number they are not operating safely and are gambling with player funds. Many books operate with 100% on hand or much less thinking they will build their bank roll as they build their customer base and many find out quickly that they must spend money to make money. It may take years to turn a profit with a new sportsbook. It is a myth that all gamblers lose.
B (Sunday, September 26, 2004): I had an account at Ewinner.com. I had not used it in a few weeks, and then I got the email below. Do you know anything about this sportsbook -- 4SportsPicks.com??? Please advise. Thanks, B Hello B, First, the Bad News: Ewinner.com has closed their doors. They will no longer be honoring wagers, deposits or withdrawals. The Good News: We at 4SportsPicks.com have decided to protect the $xx.xx you had on account with them. Simply log onto 4SportsPicks.com with your existing Username and Password. You will find that your money is available for play in either the Sportsbook or Casino.
SBR Bill Dozer: B, 4sportspicks was a Costa Rican credit shop that recently decided to try its hand at the post up business. They provided some services for Ewinner but now that Ewinner is gone they are attempting to acquire some of their players. At this point, I would say that they are very inexperienced and have a risky business model offering excessive perks and bonuses. It will take a long time before they shed the black eye they received from associating themselves with Ewinner. 4SP ownership is unknown and does not wish to offer any information about itself. Without knowing more about ownership, their guarantees by management mean little. They were dumbfounded when Ewinner closed and there is nothing that says they could not be speaking about themselves someday with the same sympathetic and frustrated tone. Customer service experiences have been positive and we have not received any slow-pays from 4sports players. 4sports may learn and change some policies but for now, it is a book I would not recommend playing with, especially after the super bowl. SBR currently rates 4SP at D-. Good Luck, Bill Dozer
Tom (Wednesday, September 15, 2004): Are you aware of a fake rating service called sportsbookaudit.com They have basically stolen much of your material but changed the ratings of their sevices to A's and B's. Check out the names of the recommended services and you'll figure out who is behind this scam. Basically, it involves Betonsports.com, Jaguar Sports, Millenium and a handful of others. They also have a fake "independent" service that supposedly recommends the same sportsbook--the ISBC. Pretty sleazy if you ask me, and it needs to be exposed.
SBR Bill Dozer: Tom, They have some great articles from someone by the name of... Bill Dozer. It was very enjoyable reading! In all seriousness, I hope most players will see the site for what it really is. Our biggest concern is that there are some low-level operations being promoted. Much of our work is being used to send the industry in the wrong direction. We are also aware that dishonest marketing has been utilized in this industry since its inception and will always be here. That is a big reason why SBR exists. If Sportsbooks start saying "Slow-Paying since 2002!" in their banners we would not be here. Thanks for the question! -BD
Kevin (Wednesday, September 15, 2004): In your "New players guide" you recommend reporting your winnings to the IRS. I''m wondering how receiving bonus money should be treated if at all for tax purposes? Or do you know of a good source on information on the topic?
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello Kevin, I would recommend reporting any and all income to the IRS. The best source of information would probably be an accountant. If you are good enough to have the gambling tax question, an appointment with an accountant may be a good investment. Good Luck, Bill
Corey (Thursday, September 09, 2004): Bill, regarding new methods of money transfer, how do you feel about instadebit and its prospects. Do you know where it is located and do they in any way offer a solution to the tightening noose that is being created by the U.S. government? Thanks.
SBR Bill Dozer: "Corey, InstaDebit is located in Toronto, Canada. The initial feedback has been positive, as you would expect with a service Pinnacle uses. I don’t think it changes anything with the U.S government and its desire to make these transactions illegal. As long as these systems depend on the use of U.S banking, they will be vulnerable to government-imposed restrictions. I do think that having more branches on this tree will make it harder for the U.S to chop it down. The primary benefit of new services like this is competition for Neteller. Neteller is charging 8.9% for their instant echeck, InstaCash. If Neteller's cost to vendors for normal transactions went down, the savings would likely be passed on to the players. Thanks, -Bill"
Ryan (Tuesday, September 07, 2004): Have you heard of betcharter.com? I have deposited some money there to bet with - they received the money through WU transfer only. Warning flags are going up, any info would be greatly appreciated.
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello Ryan, Charter Sportsbook is serviced by Royal Sports. Their website and customer service are Royal Sports’ products. However, Charter's accounting is handled by the owners who, as you mentioned, only use Western Union. Royal does not back or stand for their finances, and does not have the final say on managerial decisions. I would be very cautious of this new under-developed site. Royal has told us that they are a very small sportsbook; yet they accept $500,000 on football wagers. As with all new books, players should question everything and proceed with extreme caution. Thanks, -Bill”
bruce (Monday, September 06, 2004): Mr Dozer, Can you bet monday for a game thats going to be played on sunday can you get the early line with these books like vipsportsbook or pinnacle or wwts bet can you bet say on the 6th monday for the game on the 12th i wanna jump on the early line if nt whats the earliest they will let you bet thank you bruce
SBR Bill Dozer: "Bruce, It depends which books you are using. I believe that last year Pinnacle put up the lines a week in advance. They were actually going up for the following week, as that week's games were finishing. On a Monday morning you would be offered that night's game as well as the following Sunday's. Pinnacle, Olympic, and Cris are some of the best at offering early odds. Most books will have the lines up well in advance. They realize that bettors are making football plays all week. The best thing to do would be to look at the livelines pages now for all the sportsbooks you are considering. Those who do not have odds up today, for the 12th's games, are probably not going to fill your needs. Good Luck, -Bill"
rick (Monday, September 06, 2004): Bill: I''m surprised at your rating of sportsbook.com....i''ve been a player there for several years, (along with friends)...and I''ve cashed out many times from them. They will fedex payments (2 days)on Bank of america checks. any inside info I should know about?
SBR Bill Dozer: "Rick, Sportsbook.com can work out great for many players. Those who use credit cards find extreme value in this family of sportsbooks. Depositing via this method offers leverage and a way to recover any unpaid funds. Other types of players have had a nightmare of an experience. Sportsbook.com has been losing batches of bank wires for years. They have limited resources for tracking these wires, which can be missing for over two months. If there is even a small issue, it often snowballs into something players will never forget. Customer service clerks are limited to taking messages in most cases, and are often unable to tackle an issue on their own. Sportsbook.com is also known for auditing accounts, which can freeze your funds for over a month as well. The good news is that time will usually resolve these issues. However, players waiting almost three months for their money find little comfort in hearing that. Overall, I would say Sportsbook.com has a high percentage of content players; but the potential for a mess is a liability and we can not comfortably recommend them. We recently upgraded them to a C+ and soon after received a rash of complaints. Good Luck, -Bill "
Ed (Saturday, September 04, 2004): Is Bet on Sports a reliable sports book?
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello Ed, BetOnSports has recently been upgraded to a C. BOS complaints are at an all-time low and we believe they are moving in the right direction. They still take too much time to resolve player disputes, and have been known to use dishonest marketing techniques. Recently they slow-paid a casino winner over a month, and he was later paid in full. Overall, I believe they have a high percentage of happy players. They are one of the biggest and most financially-sound gaming companies out there. A more efficient client services department could improve their status in the future.
Bruce (Saturday, September 04, 2004): Have you heard of or know of any dealings with a sportsbook called www.popularpoker-sportsbook.com
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello Bruce, This is a two year old site located in the San Pedro mall in Costa Rica. Last year, Popularpoker claimed to be partnered with MVPsportsbook- but at this time both state they are independent operations. Last year, their CS manager admitted that employees play in the real money poker tables. Obviously players should be concerned if the dealer is also a player. Overall, we have initiated the sportsbook's rating at D+. Thanks for the question! -Bill "
FH (Wednesday, September 01, 2004): Have you seen this web site? Looks like a rip off of SBR. http://www.sportsbookaudit.com/
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello FH, The site link was emailed to me. When I opened it I thought it was a joke. Yes, though low quality, the site is blatantly copying SBR. They even have pages with my articles on them. I think most players will see the site for what it is. It is obviously run by a BetOnSports affiliate, as all their top books are in the BOS family. Thanks, -Bill "
HGD (Friday, August 27, 2004): I received a magazine from Insider Betting Digest and they rated Betus.com as the number one rated Sportsbook. Something must be wrong someplace as you folks rate them F. Please advise.
SBR Bill Dozer: "I am not familiar with that magazine, but I do know that many are published by the sportsbooks themselves- this is a common form of marketing among sportsbooks. At times it is very obvious because a third-rate company will list five books that they own as #1-5, followed by five decent books that they are not affiliated with. In another scenario, a bottom level shop will make a legitimate list consisting of top tier shops with the exception of inserting themselves at the 3 or 4 spot. In this case it is not as blatant, but they hope the other examples of top books will add to the integrity of the list, and validate them as a decent sportsbook. Obviously you do not want to trust a company reviewing itself. Another common reason for bad books having good rankings is that they bought that spot; Many publications sell advertising. It is common for the advertising books to get a great ranking. This also happens on many internet sites Regards, Bill
t (Monday, August 16, 2004): Hi bill Hope this finds you well. Need your help once again. Have you ever heard of this outfit? "www.changeabet.com" Seems like an interesting concept, almost to the point of being too good! Thanks for your help. Tell John hello. take care of yourself your friend t baer
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello, The way Changeabet works is: If a player finds he is losing a wager and thinks the opposite of what he bet will win; he can forfeit 60% of his initial bet and put the remaining 40% on the opposing side or total. He would get the line that the other team or total closed at. If it goes as planned, he would keep 75% of what he stood to lose. If Changeabet gets many players switching sides and forfeiting money before the game is decided, it could work out for them. They hope people make bad investments. They are banking on an uneducated client base. The problem is, Changeabet may not let you change your bet and therefore, they are erasing any value a player thought he had by playing with them. The example they give to players, and gave to SBR, was a lopsided football game. They said, "Say the underdog is up 27 points and you want to switch from the favorite. You can do so by forfeiting 60% of your losing bet and you would get the opposite spread". By taking the underdog, the bettor would get the original points; plus the lead making it a fairly sure bet going into the 4th quarter. I immediately asked them how they could honor this since it would almost equate to the house getting sided (push one side and losing the other). I said, “If a big game had a lopsided score going into the 4th, you stand to have all the action on one team and taking a huge loss on the event.” Their reply was, “We reserve the right not to change bets we don’t want to”. They essentially only agree to change the bet when it suits them. They either stand to make some bettors very upset, or will eventually be taking some big hits on big events. I see a recipe for disaster for Monday night football or even the Superbowl. Thanks, -Bill "
Gildy (Wednesday, August 11, 2004): I saw you have www.sportsinteraction.com rated as a D....I've been using it for over a year and still have managed to keep 1/2 my intial investment (my fault not thiers) it's the 1st and only site I have used. I am hesitant to change over to a new site because I am familiar with the naviagation, pay out procedure and odds on this site.....Is your A+ rated site worth the switch?...What am I missing?....Why is this place rated a D?....Thanks for your time, GO PATS...Gildy
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello Chris, SIA was notorious for slow-paying many of its clients. They seem to have improved quite a bit. We still get complaints that they have cancelled wagers that were not bad lines, that they slow pay and confiscate bonuses. Any player who wins there should be prepared to fax a photo I.D and electric bill in up to five times. Management does not make itself available to players. They have also changed their rules and transfer options for players after they sign up. When I say they have improved, I mean these issues come up much less. Thanks, -Bill "
Brian (Monday, August 09, 2004): What can I do about a sportsbook (English Sports aka Telebet) that refuses to payout my winnings?
SBR Bill Dozer: "There is not much you can do. They have a long history as a scam operation. If you would like to email me your account information I will contact them on your behalf and add your name to the list of players owed. Unfortunately, ESB's history suggests that you will never see your funds. Good Luck, -Bill "
antonio (Friday, August 06, 2004): do you know TONY MARSONI is, he is supposed to be with a group out of CASABLANCA sports, just trying to get some heads up, b4 i start playing
SBR Bill Dozer: "Mr. Marsoni apparently worked in Casablanca's advertising department. They say he has not been employed there for months. "
mike (Friday, August 06, 2004): i was told by bcbets thats they have been shut down by belize gaming can you confirm that this is a fact
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello, BCbets appears to be fully operational, with the exception of Western Union transfers. BC told SBR that the Belize Western Union was closed down. They expect it to be back up shortly. I have received no other information suggesting BC is not up and running. Thanks, -Bill"
Dom (Friday, July 30, 2004): Hi, I was thinking about signing up with CRIS - However they are in Costa Rica and that is not on your A list of countries. They are offering me a 20% bonus on 3000 = 600 in free wagers however in the cashiers area there is no mention of bonuses - the agent said I should let him know when i deposit and he will take care of the bonus - i understand i have to roll the 3000 over 3x before i can make a withdrawral- I see them on your A+ list what do you think and have you heard ant negatives? Thanks D. G.
SBR Bill Dozer: "Costa Rica has a high failure rate due to the ease of erecting a sportsbook. Comparing some of the top books in CR to the every day failures is like comparing 5 star restaurants and hot dog stands. Those hot dog stands have wheels and may be fly-by-night operations. A top tier book has the ability to pick up and move to a 2nd choice location if it so desires. This scenario may be illustrated by what Oly and Betjam are going through. Some of the books in CR helped pioneer the online industry, and are still doing so. That is not to say that if I had to throw a random dart in order to pick my book I would choose CR. The overall percentage of failure is the cause for concern, and rightfully so. Although, if you can differentiate between a large ethical company like Cris and a turnkey mom-and-pop betting site like BetCSI, there is no need to be scared of CR. Cris in CR is as safe as if they were in Antigua; and Aces Gold wouldn't have crashed any sooner if they were in CR. The match play bonuses are applied after you deposit and request it. It is easy to track and I have had no problems using mine. GL, BD "
A.P. (Tuesday, July 27, 2004): I got a flashy invite from Heritage sports, 30% cash bonus on intial sign up, 30% bonus on all deposits and 30% rebate on my losses twice a year. I know you give them a "B" rating, my question is can I feel as secure with a "B" as I can with an "A"? I have only used A rated books you recommend. I could always use more outs but dont want to use a "B" if there was any risk involved whatsoever.
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello, At the risk of giving the obvious answer, a B is not an A. If I was to simply say both ratings mean the book is good, I would be de-valuing what an A rating means. I would tell a player with your mentality to stay with the recommended list which are all B+ or higher (with the exception of BetAustralia who is governed by Australia). If Heritage is offering that I would like to see the details and stipulations. It seems excessive, but the player requirements are equally as important when gauging a promotion's value. If you could forward the offer to me it would be much appreciated. There are some great bonus offers by the B+ or higher shops right now. Best of Luck, -Bill Dozer"
michael (Monday, July 26, 2004): bill, do you know if gameday will be bringing back no juice happy hour this year on nfl football. thanks
SBR Bill Dozer: Hello, Unfortunately Gameday has not solidified what promos they will be offering. I would guess they will do something along those lines. Maybe -102 one day a week? I will check back and update this answer in 2 weeks. Thanks, BD
Steven (Friday, July 23, 2004): I have been checking out this site called mybookie.com. Is this a legit site? How much risk am I exposed to?
SBR Bill Dozer: "MyBookie along with parlaybook, sportsbook911, and betcom.com are part of Grand Central Sports and are rated: D- to D+ Poor, some risk to players funds. Poor customer service, etc. Good Luck, -BD"
Andrew (Wednesday, July 21, 2004): Bill, I would like to ask you for a favour. I know you guys are very busy over at SBR, but I can't get a straight answer from anybody. I only use A- to A+ books for my offshore accounts. However, I know these books are the top graded by you and the rest of SBR, my question is, if I were to get a check from these establishments lets say for $5,000, and I go to cash it, obviously since their reptuable books they would send it from usally a Internationaly Reconized bank that would be okay, My question(s) is, how long would it take a check to clear of that size (I realize you can't speak for all Financial Insitutions), but if your constantly making like $5000+ per week, are checks the way to go? or is their a better method, Thanks, Andrew
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello Andrew, The only place to get a true answer is from your bank. Some are faster than others. They should be able to give you a general time frame for each type of check. For example, if you use Bank of America and your book cuts their check from there, the clearing time will be much shorter, since you are eliminating an additional party. I would look into Neteller as well. The deciding factor for me is the fees. With Neteller, your funds will be immediately available to be deposited to another sportsbook. It is often less expensive than bank checks. If you are not familiar with Neteller, you may find this article useful. Good Luck, -BD"
Erik (Wednesday, July 14, 2004): Hey Bill, Because of this great site, I opened my first offshore account through VIP Sports and everything has been great. My question is with their online Casino. Does your A+ rating include the casino or is it just for the sportsbook? And what type of payoff is typical for an offshore casino? thanks for all your help.
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello, Our rating reflects casinos from an ethical business perspective but we do not calculate casino games into the grade. If an A-rated book came out with a boring casino, it would not affect the SBR rating. Of course, we would expect any ventures outside of booking to be ethical and fair. If it was not, it would reflect upon the parent company and sportsbook. I think of sportsbook's casinos as add-ons like those new refrigerators with the TVs in them. Yes, the fridge makers want the TVs to be there as an extra offering but they don't expect you to buy the fridge to put in the living room. It’s not the main function but they have nothing to lose by offering any quality level. Good Luck! "
Jim (Monday, July 12, 2004): Hi Bill, Do sportsbooks "profile" players? i.e. if I consistently bet the over and win are the lines on the over going to increase just for me when I log on? I use three books;Olympic,WWTS, and Pinnacle, but focus most of the action on Pinnacle because of cheaper lines. Could this change if they profile my action?
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hi Jim, You will not get profiled by simply winning your over bets. If you are steam chasing and beating your shop to number moves, or just beating them up with great picks, you may get profiled. Profiling doesn't necessarily mean they are going to follow your betting patterns and deal you backward numbers. Many top books will use your plays to help them move their line. The scenario closest to what you are inquiring about is where a book categorizes its players and deals them different line sets accordingly. A book that caters mostly to entertainment players may have heavy favorite and over prices knowing those are the square's favorite wagers. Once veteran gamblers notice the line is always shaded, they will stop by for all the great underdog value. The sportsbook may then deal those value shoppers a line set where the value is not lopsided. You may get this from a Sports Interaction type shop. I don't think you are in any danger of losing your value at the books you mentioned. Using more books will ease your concerns as well as providing more shopping value. GL, -BD"
Adam (Tuesday, July 06, 2004): Hello, I was considering signing up an account with SportingBetUSA. I noticed that you have included this book in your recommended list. I like the wagers offered and the promotions at this book. I have one concern however. The withdrawal policy says that neteller withdrawals will take 3 days to process. This is a long time to wait on a neteller withdrawal. Do you here any negative reports concerning withdrawals with this book ? 3 days seems questionable. Does this sound unusual to you? Thanks for the time.
SBR Bill Dozer: "SportingbetUSA asks that you allow 24 hours for them to process your payout. I believe 3 days refers to the amount of time it usually takes for your funds to appear in your checking account once withdrawn from Neteller. Thanks, -Bill"
Adam (Thursday, July 01, 2004): Hello Bill, I would first like to thank you for the great work you are doing in the industry. Its websites like Sportsbook Review that maintain my confidence in offshore wagering. I had a question regarding Carib Sports. I have been a client of Carib for over 5 years. I have never taken a withdrawal of more than $250 from Carib. I have read mixed reviews regarding this sportsbook. When I joined they were considered the giant in the industry. But have heard recent negative reports from Sportsbook Review regarding Carib. I enjoy Carib because of the promotions and contests. I was considering entering the pro football handicap challenge thru Carib. My question is if you have heard any negative reports about Carib paying off these large promotion and challenge winners? Is it safe to enter these contests thru Carib? I appreciate your time. Thank you Adam
SBR Bill Dozer: : "Hello Adam, Carib has been a top rated book with us in the past. Chronic website downtime during football season and legal issues have contributed to their less-than-stellar rating. Authorities previously had access to Carib's funds, which is a financial liability we do not want to ignore. I don't believe Carib would try to scam you out of contest winnings. My worry is that their company problems could trickle down and become the client's problem. Our rating reflects concerns regarding business performance (losing action during downtime) and legal history but not their character and integrity. Personally, I would play at Carib but would not send any friends or family there at this time. There are books with a more stable recent history. I am hopeful Carib can enjoy a problem free football season this year. Thanks for the feedback!"
JR (Monday, June 28, 2004): Hi Bill, I was wondering if you had any suggestions on collecting from a sportsbook that doesn''t appear to be in business- I know I am probably screwed. The sportsbook is BML Sports and the reason I joined was they were recommended by OSGA, which is obviously a joke. BML told me numerous times they would send me my money, then one day, they no longer answered their phone, and never sent my 7K they owed me. Thanks, JRO
SBR Bill Dozer: "JR, Unfortunately in this case you are probably out of luck. Bring Me Luck is/was a deposit only site. If you like, you can email me your account details to assistance@sportbookreview.com to be added to my list of victims. In the unlikely event someone at BML develops a conscious and turns the phone back on I will discuss your account. Sorry for the bad news. "
Bill (Monday, June 28, 2004): Could you tell me what is the safest way to deposit money into a new account? How do you feel about direct bank transfer (using a check) and what qaulity books accept this type of payment thanks you guys have a great website
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello Bill, Many People like the direct bank transfer. BoDog and Intertops come to mind as upper-tier shops who utilize this transfer method. You may also find Neteller's Instacash serves the same purpose when books like VIP Sports pick up the cost. The biggest complaint, and maybe the only complaint, is these methods have an automatic hold before withdrawal. BoDog for example, usually takes seven business days regardless of how fast the debit clears your checking account. If players are aware of the time reserved for checks to clear it could be the easiest transferring process. The safest and most proven 3rd party processor is Neteller. If you use direct checking, it is only as safe as the sportsbook executing the transfer. Thanks for your question! "
aspec (Wednesday, June 23, 2004): Hi , are sportsbooks with Worldgaming risky ? they are member of the Interactive Gaming Council. I''m considering signing up with sportingbetusa.com ,sportsbook.com , .wallstreet.com Is it safe? Regards.
SBR Bill Dozer: "Hello, World Gaming refers to the software. They provide services for many companies. The ones you mentioned are under the Sportingbet PLC name. SportingbetUSA is the flagship sportsbook under the Sportingbet Plc. company. This is a financially solid group. They acquired sportsbook.com a few years back. The family of books does not act as you would expect. Normally sister books follow and use the same procedures. This is not the case here. They have different systems and policies and act independent of each other. Sportsbook.com though very large, is known for botching up withdrawals. They are financially sound like SportingbetUSA but not as efficient. I have seen many payouts delayed (especially bank wires) but they seem to eventually find their way home. If I was going to choose one I would pick SportingbetUSA. Sportsbook.com is likely to be pain free if you avoid making special requests and stick with Neteller. Good Luck, -Bill"
Andrew (Wednesday, June 23, 2004): Mr. Dozer, I always cash out using western union because I've never received a check from an offshore bank and I don't want to get stuck with a check my bank won't honor. Can you tell me is it o.k. to deposit a check from pinnaclesports.com in my bank or will the bank turn it down. P.S. I'm not worried about the government only the bank.
SBR Bill Dozer: "You should not have trouble depositing checks from your sportsbooks. Most books issue checks from an international accredited bank. You may notice a longer hold time for any foreign checks to clear. Deutsche Bank Trust and Bank of America are examples of banks used by prominent books. I am not aware of the bank Pinnacle uses but I believe you would be fine. I tend to choose quicker methods myself. I should also add that I can no
